THIS HOUSE IS NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
However our cabin next door- "Charming Silverlake/Echo Park Cabin" has been renting out consistently since April 2012.
The house is a 2 bedroom, but one of the rooms is used as a TV room and only has a couch, which could sleep one person if need be. Then there is a master bedroom with a master bathroom. There is another bathroom at the front of the house which is intended for guests and has a shower. The cabin on the lot is included for whoever rents the house. The specs of the cabin can be viewed on this site by viewing "my other listings" in the side bar - "Charming Silverlake/Echo Park Cabin". It sleeps 2 and has it's own bathroom w/ shower and kitchenette and it's own entrance and back patio.
The main house is very airy and open and light. Just about everyone who comes in the front remarks on how great the house "feels" and that it has such a great flow.
There is also Central heat, which we don't need TOO often in LA, but when we do need it, it's a real life saver (most LA homes are pretty poorly insulated).
There is a lot of wonderful history in our home, it was built in 1881, which means that it was one of the first houses in this whole area, when Sunset Blvd was just a dirt strip. It also means that it predates all the old, beautiful victorian homes in Angeleno Heights and surrounding areas. I believe this house was a farm house owned by a New England family which is why it has a really Cape Cod kind of feel. They were able to pick their ideal spot to place their house, which they did. The sun raises behind you, so the front of the house gets the early morning sun, and sets in front of you, so in the evening you have a beautiful evening sunset out the kitchen, backdoor and bedroom. And all year long we get an amazing sea breeze as we're in direct shot of the ocean up on this hill. On a clear day you can see all the way to the ocean at Santa Monica and the Malibu Hills, and constant views of Hollywood and the Hollywood Hills, Griffith Park and the Hollywood sign.
It's truly a sanctuary in a bustling city.
We are walking distance to many great bars and restaurants, a short drive from the sunset junction in Silverlake, which is busy with foot traffic, shops, and multiple farmers markets throughout the week.
There's more to read about on the 'cabins' site, plus I'll include a (website hidden) map of all of our favorite places to eat, drink and grocery shop, which will make your stay much more personal.
There is internet.
Convenient street parking.
There is a television with a wide variety of dvd's in the cabin, and in the main house there's also a TV with dvd player and a Roku box, which gets Netflix, Amazon, Hulu+ etc.
We are located right on the border of Echo Park and Silver lake, so we are smack in the middle of downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood. A stones throw from Los Feliz, a 5 minute walk to shops and delicious eateries and a 1 minute drive to get on the 101 freeway, so by car, just a couple minutes to downtown and hollywood (traffic permitting).
My wife and I both work in entertainment and the property is very conducive to that type of living, the house has always been inhabited by artists, musicians, filmmakers etc.
I have spent the majority of my life traveling in and around foreign countries, and when we have time off from work that's exactly what we do. I've been a guest a hundred times, and hosted people hundreds of times.
This neighborhood is very very unique, it's hip and eclectic and filled with culture, exactly the kind of place you'd want to see if visiting here for the 1st or the 20th time, it's not a neighborhood that a tour bus will bring you to (not yet anyway), just lots of young people doing lots of interesting things. It's a busy place, very productive, there's always a new gallery opening, a new restaurant opening, new bars, movies filming etc.
I have lived in this section of LA for over 14 years and there's no other neighborhood I'd live in... for what it's worth.
Our rules are to use your better judgement, be courteous, treat the house and neighbors with respect. At the same time- Have a super fun time, so long as your smart about it.
We stayed at the the house and cabin for 10 days over the holidays... and we didn't want to leave. In the middle of our stay we moved out for two nights at the Chateau Marmont for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day – an excursion we had pre-booked – and we COULDN'T WAIT to get back to our cozy and festive (yes, replete with tree, twinkling lights and garland) digs in Echo Park!!! Many times, through Airbnb or similar sites, you either end up in a sterile cookie-cutter "hotel" style place with no sign of real life, or you feel as if you have been beamed down into the midst of someones personal chaos. But this was like being a guest at a very good friends stylish, charming and accommodating home, on a lovely spot in a sweet little corner of the world. The house is small but very bright and open, the deck, yard and view are perfect, and the cabin is rustic but super-sweet – like being on a Maine island or at Deetjen's in Big Sur. We enjoyed ourselves immensely... though we did find ourselves wishing the hosts were around to share a drink and a meal with us!

I grew up in both Southern California and Germany. After high school I spent many years traveling the globe, living primarily in Sweden and Italy. While living abroad I showcased my early work as video installations in the Palais du Tokyo in Paris and various other galleries in Milan, Italy. This work brought me back to LA to work more permanently in the film industry. I currently live on the border of the Silver Lake and Echo Park neighborhoods of Los Angeles with my wife and son.
We love to eat, watch movies, have our friends over to our house for dinners and travel out of LA as much as possible.
