About This Listing
A lovely, secluded double bedroom with a new, fresh, white en suite bathroom, small private patio and own front door. Centrally located with the added advantage of parking and a delicious breakfast.
We are offering a freshly painted en suite double bedroom with a small private patio and own street entrance in our centrally located Grade 2 listed Regency house. Our house used to be a theatrical boarding house and the cast of the 1947 film BRIGHTON ROCK, including Richard Attenborough, who played Pinkie, lodged here. The house is only 12 mins walk from Brighton station, close to all restaurants and nightlife and only 2 mins walk from the sea. Our knowledge of the area is extensive, my husband was born here. Breakfast is included, either bacon and eggs or Continental including homemade granola and marmalade. We would prefer two night bookings at the weekend but to make it feasible to accept single night bookings we do, reluctantly, charge a £10 cleaning fee, a small amount when spread over a few days.
The bedlinen is pure Egyptian cotton, towels and Wi Fi are provided, as well as your own set of keys to your door. Parking is difficult in central Brighton, but we may have a free space for your car or day long parking vouchers for £3.00 a day. You will be welcomed by a lovely gentle whippet lurcher, oh, and by us.
Our guests have their own front door and en suite bathroom. We don't provide tea/coffee making in the bedroom but encourage you to use our kitchen if you would like a tea or coffee during the day.
Interaction with Guests
Both Orlando and I work at home and enjoy leisurely breakfasts and are happy to answer any queries during the day.
Brighton is a vibrant, exciting small city full of restaurants, great pubs, quirky shops, excellent culture (comedy and music especially good) and of course the beach. Equally the Downs, for dramatic views and wonderful walks are only 10 minutes drive away.
Our house is very central, one minute from the main shopping street and two minutes to the beach. There is no need for a car, everything of interest is within 15 minutes walk.
It was amazing of Joanna to take guests this weekend as she was so busy with the Brighton Festival but it was really lovely to meet up with her various delightful house guests over breakfast. It made us feel part of the family! Our bed was very comfortable and the linen is super. We enjoyed our relaxed breakfasts cooked by either Joanna or Orlando which set us up well for the day. Thank you also for the welcoming tea and delicious ginger cake when we arrived. Their lovely house is so conveniently located for walking everywhere in Brighton and just up the road from the sea! We were sorry to leave!
Lovely house. Very central. Hospitable creative hosts. Homemade granola. A must for dog lovers as beautiful and much portrayed lurcher in residence. Helpful advice on local restaurants/pubs/sights. Nice set up as independent access to downstairs level and room so private too.
We were made to feel very welcome and were offered tea on arrival.
We liked the informality of our stay as we felt more like family/friends than just paying guests.
The bed was extremely comfortable and the granola delicious. Joanna and Orlando were also very interesting to talk to.
We will definitely stay there again.
We were met by Joanna's husband, Orlando, who gave us a most warm welcome. The house was in a bit of disarray as they were painting a room and much of the room's contents had been moved elsewhere. The location was good, as we could park for only 3 Pounds and walk to all the sites in central Bath. Joanna prepared to order a nice breakfast for us. The room was just okay, but the bed comfortable. It was convenient for our last night in England before flying out of Gatwick in the morning.
We stayed for one night but wished we could stay a bit longer.
Orlando and Joanna were amazing and very welcomely hosts.
Good advices about Brighton and excellent home made breakfast!
We had a really lovely first Airbnb experience at Jo and Orlando's place. Large bedroom in basement with ensuite and own entrance ensured we didn't bother anyone when we returned late at night. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Also a few sweeties and bottles of water for convenience.
Great breakfast including bacon and eggs, and Orlando's homemade granola; some very interesting breakfast conversation with a composer, knitwear designer and a dance choreographer! There was also lovely Nell, curled up in the bright kitchen, providing yet another bit of conversation!
Would recommend this room to anyone, and will definitely stay again next time we're in Brighton.
