About This Listing
I love my place....it is cosy, colourful and welcoming! And no traffic noise.....nice and quiet. Great sunsets from the veranda as well. I am renting out 2 rooms with 1 sharing bathroom - off limits: just my room and bathroom. So come and enjoy!!
It's a bit unfair to ask me to give a description of my place because I just adore my little 3 bedroom townhouse - my comfy haven! I am renting out 2 rooms (one with a double bed @ R300 per night & the other one a 3/4 bed @ R200 per night) with one bathroom (not en suite: shower, basin and toilet to be shared between the 2 bedrooms) and free Wi-Fi (for basic needs: emails, (website hidden) research etc. No downloading please), 2 Carports, kitchen and livingroom. No pets allowed. I have a huge garden and a nice veranda where you can just chill or watch the sunsets. Quiet neighbourhood near shopping malls, restaurants, cinemas and the Sandton area. Close enough to all the hip and happening places but far enough from the noise, hustle and bustle. All depending on what you are looking for.......I am more of a nature person :-)
Guest will have use of everything in the house but will be responsible for their own food, washing up and cleaning their room. You are responsible for your own meals but the following I will supply: coffee, tea, milk, sugar, salt & spices and washing powder/softner. Unless you like it so much that you want to stay for a year!
I do have a domestic worker that comes in every Monday to do cleaning, washing and ironing: if you want her to do your washing or ironing, it will be great if you can pay her a small fee according to the amount of washing you have. The only place that is off limits: my private area (bedroom & bathroom).
Very quiet, safe neighbourhood (also have 24 hour security guards on premises and my house has security doors as well as burglar bars on all windows)
Guests will have access to the whole house except my room and en suite bathroom. I will give the guests their own keys & remote for the duration of their stay, so they can come and go as they please.
I live in an area that is surrounded by Malls with restaurants, movie theatres and multiple shops. One of the Malls also has a flea market every day. Most within walking distance. The Gautrain in about a 15 minute drive from my house. The famous Red Hop-on-Hop-off Buses operate from Park station.......a short ride from the Sandton Gautrain to Park Station.
Interaction with Guests
I am a freelance worker, so if I do not have a booking, I can drive you around at a small cost for petrol (AA rates per km) or I can help you with tours to the Apartheid Museum, Lion Park, Cradle of Humankind, Soweto etc.
I am a bit of a house hen if I'm not working, so I might be around the house a lot but don't worry, by house hen I mean I sleep the whole day! My interaction with you will be as much or as little as you prefer. If you had a whole day sightseeing in Soweto........I will leave you alone upon your return to have a cooling drink on the veranda watching the sunset. All up to you :-)
My neighbourhood is nice and quite. Close enough to all the hip and happening places but far enough from the noise, hustle and bustle. My neighbourhood is safe as well as the complex that I stay in: we have 24 hour security guards, electrified fencing and my house is also protected by security doors etc. The nearest police station is about 2kms from my house and the nearest hospital with a trauma & emergency unit (and they are also equipped for snake and spider bites - I have all the emergency nrs) is about 10 kms from my house: Olivedale Clinic. There is a doctor and dentist room directly opposite my complex with a travel doctor as well as a pharmacy.

Public transport in South Africa is not very good, so if you are staying for several days, you might consider renting a car. Secure parking is available at my house. Taxi's are expensive in Johannesburg i.e. from my house to the Gautrain Station in Sandton will cost you between R120 - R170. I can drop you off for R50 or collect you for R50 - if I am available. A return trip will be R100.

She will also clean your room (this is included in the price). But please keep your room tidy. I am always around or just a phone call away if you need anything.
Please treat my home and belongings as if it were your own.
the place is as described, in a very quite and safe part of town. The host was very welcoming and full on info about the town and the history of south africa. She is friendly and ready to answer any question you have about johannesburg. An added bonus is that when available she will take you to the gautrain station and with her car saving you a fortune in taxis!!. She even take me to the station at 5.15 in the morning so I did not have to book a taxi and spend more!!! highly appreciated! And highly recomended!
Rene is a great host. We felt very comfortable at her home and had some wonderful days. Whenever it's possible, we will return.
Our stay with René was really nice, we felt very welcome in her flat. she took us to many places in Jobourg. She took time for us and was very helpful. We enjoyed her company very much. We hope to come back soon. Isabelle
I stayed in the smaller bedroom while working in Joburg for 3 weeks. Rene is a very friendly, welcoming, and generous host, and the room is exactly as described and pictured here, very comfortable for a single traveler.
You will share a bathroom with the guest(s) in the larger room, and will have a shelf or two in the kitchen to store your groceries. The kitchen is well stocked with appliances and some staples so this is a good place to stay if you plan to cook for yourself. The free wifi is perfectly fine for emailing, social media and streaming media, but isn't really up to heavy bandwidth activities so perhaps not ideal for travelers who work in technology or other fields that may require a more professional-grade connection.
It is a quiet and safe residential area, with good paved roads (a perk for any runners), but it is some distance (12km or so) from central Joburg. If you are planning to be in the city for work or sightseeing, you will either need a car or be able to walk a half hour to the nearest bus though Rene was kind enough to drive me a few places, especially on nights and weekends when buses were not running. The area is not close to many restaurants or bars, however, so is perhaps not ideal for travelers interested in spending a large number of evenings out.
It is definitely a great rental for a business traveler on a budget though!
Thanks Maha :-) There are a lot of restaurants (a good variety) and bars at the Brightwater Commons where you got the Gautrain Bus.....but I don't think you ever walked through the entire Mall? Very nice pubs there as well, especially the Irish one, McGinty's...the Irish ones are always the best, aren't they? Glad you enjoyed it, was nice to meet you and hope to see you again. Good luck with the studies!
Thank you for making it a real home away from home. Rene' made us feel welcome. There is nothing I can recommend to make it better as you have thought of everything. We had a wonderful holiday and truly appreciate your kindness. We will be back again. Lovely warm welcome from you Rene' felt at home the minute we stepped in the door at your house. Peace and quiet. We have enjoyed our very comfortable stay immensely. A lovely cottage, helpful & friendly hosts. Great location, we will be back. Thank you. Baie dankie en God jou kan seën! Sien julle weer!
I recently booked Rene's 2 rooms for 3 people and it was exactly like Rene described it on her listing page: nicely decorated, cosy, clean and comfy! the place is very secure and you get woken up by even guinea fowls.
Rene makes sure that her hosts are at ease in her apartment and extremely comfortable. Thank you very much Rene, we will be back for sure! Sylvaine, Claire and Lara
About the Host, Rene
I am a 48 year old freelancer who works in television sport productions. I don't work regular hours, but might be away for a few days on a job or I could be at home for several days as well. So I might be available to take you out shopping or to see the sights of Johannesburg. When I'm at home I can drive you around (at a small fee for petrol/gas etc) to all the interesting places that make Johannesburg so unique. As I am a South African, I love our animals and I live close to the Lion Park (about 10 kilometres from my house). Here you can play with little lion cubs and feed giraffes. We can even work in a traditional South African 'braai' (barbeque) and tours to Soweto and the Apartheid museum are plentiful. I can take you to a big African Market in Rosebank or we can have lunch at Mojo's Restaurant overlooking Zoo Lake. Mojo's is an African Restaurant that serves interesting dishes and customs from around our continent. The Lesedi Cultural Village is about 40 mins from my house and you will have a great time. But one thing is for sure: you will feel welcome in my little Jo'burg haven!
