About This Listing
Do you need a great B&B to stay at that is in close proximity to the Nation’s Capital but without DC prices? If so, come stay with us! We are Canadians who have traveled around the world extensively and love meeting new people from different locations and backgrounds. When we are not globe-trotting we like to get the same kind of experience by hosting guests in our home.
Though we typically rent one room to BnB guests regularly, we also have an option to rent our entire property or a separate, fully furnished apartment rental at the same location (see linked rental option on the right hand column).
We have a cozy, fully furnished, beautifully decorated, recently renovated, modern Cape Cod home in the Hyattsville Historic Arts District (perimeter of DC). Our home is spacious, clean, and welcoming, reflective of our world travels. We have a spectacular English garden that is available for relaxing with a cup of tea and a good book! It has a large private cobble stone patio for entertaining with an outdoor fireplace and a new stainless steel gas grill. In addition to this we have a large, recently built, rear deck attached to dining room via French doors - leading to an outdoor hot tub. The dining room/kitchen area has been completely renovated with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. So if you like to cook a meal while on the go, then this kitchen is for you! :)
The interior of the house is very warm and welcoming. Aside from great ambiance, we have 3 indoor fireplaces (2 gas, one wood burning), 3 full bathrooms, hardwood floors through out with slate tile in the kitchen, energy efficient heating/cooling, ample refrigeration space. The BnB room that is exclusively available to guests is clean and nicely decorated, with a new double bed mattress, a full closet and drawer space for belongings, as well as a private bathroom.
New laundry facilities are available in the house. We have off-street parking on quiet side street in a safe, friendly neighborhood.
Our guests must love dogs and cats. We have 2 wonderful dogs and 4 fantastic cats (all live harmoniously together, and all are super friendly)! They will most certainly win your heart! Though we are extremely clean, if you have allergies to animals then staying with us might not be for you.
Our house is in central location, that is safe walking distance (5 blocks) to West Hyattsville METRO STATION that will deliver you straight into the heart of DC (Green line, 1 stop from Red Line Fort Totten exchange). Our home is also less than 1 mile from the University of Maryland (perfect for football weekends when MD plays at home) and Catholic University. Bus transit stop less than a block away (#12). EASY COMMUTE: 20 minute drive/metro to DC or Silver Spring downtown centers; 20 minute bike ride to the National Mall. Tennis/basketball courts, shopping centers, grocery stores, exercise facilities (LA Fitness (with new pool)), yoga studio, movie theaters, restaurants (including our neighborhood micro-brew pub Franklins, a DC favorite - - Bus Boys and Poets, Indian, Ethiopian, Thai, and Mexican restaurants), city parks, and bike path and nature trails (to Silver Spring and UMD) close by.
We are extremely knowledgeable about various tourist attractions and restaurants in the DC area and are happy to help provide you with all you need to plan your trip. We have guidebooks available at he house to assist you in planing your trip.
We provide fresh linens for all guests, as well as delicious and creative breakfast meals for our from an around the world menu. We decided to bring home the ethnic cooking from our travels and share them with our guests. We always ask our guests ahead of schedule if they have any dietary preferences or 'must haves' before they arrive so we can be sure to make them feel at home. For those guests staying for an extended period (3+ days) we enjoy sharing a dinner meal as well, if time permits.

Fabulous! Gillian and Bo have created a beautiful place to stay--both inside and out! Their home is welcoming and so comfortable. Their garden is an oasis of calm and tranquility. I hope we can return soon. We hear the breakfasts are great! Sue and Bill
I had a lovely time staying with Boe and Gillian. Their home is beautiful, their pets are cute and friendly and very well-behaved, and they have a super-cute and smiley baby boy as well (and that's coming from a non-baby person!). Boe and Gillian were a delight - warm and natural and perfect hosts. They had a delicious breakfast spread ready for me every morning, gave me some great tips on getting around DC, and I had the use of their downstairs den for relaxing in the evening, a key to come and go as needed, a chance to do laundry, and access to Boe's beer fridge! I couldn't have asked for more while staying with them. Thanks heaps.
Gillian and Boe and baby are all so delightful and make staying a pleasure. I felt like a very pampered guest.
The apartment within their home surpasses any five star hotel. Design, furnishings and comfort are paramount.
It was also very useful to be able to use the laundry facilities to catch up on my washing as I had been travelling quite a while by the time I stayed with them.
Gillian and Boe are very special people when you visit and talk to them you cannot fail to connect with them.
Gillian and Boe's home is such a lovely place to stay. Not only is a impeccably clean and comfortable but it is beautifully decorated like out of a Home Decor magazine! There is a private bathroom with full bath/shower and fresh and fluffy towels. The bed is extremely comfortable and the room has more than enough space for all of your luggage and bags. Gillian and Boe are some of the nicest people we have ever met. They not only open their home to travelers but they become friends. They turned our Inauguration trip into a spectacular experience. We will be forever grateful. They have great tips, interesting conversation, and they truly make you feel welcome. As a bonus we just loved their fur kids! They are friendly and affectionate and just downright adorable! We hated to leave and would definitely stay there again. Looking forward to keeping in touch and meeting your new addition. And certainly text, call or email when you come to NYC (or anytime!)
Gillian and Boe were great hosts. very cosy house and bedroom. and they have awesome pets. I am not a pet person but Reilly ( the dog) and i became friends pretty quickly. They made me BIG breakfast early in the morning before i'd leave to the city. I used the metro was close by so i used to get to DC. In short, great people, great experience. I look forward seeing them again
Gillian and Boe are fantastic hosts, and it was wonderful to be able to share their home. The room doesn't have a separate entrance, so at first I was worried that I was intruding. But Gillian and Boe quickly made me feel at home, and I grew to really appreciate the intimacy. (And their fantastic sense of style. No hotel is so exquisitely decorated. ) I'm really looking forward to coming back.
The metro station is a short walk in one direction ( with a cab stand if you don't want to walk), with downtown DC less than 30 minutes away, and Regan airport is one transfer. Some excellent restaurants are a few minutes walk in the other direction, so even if you don't want to head downtown you can find something to do.
Most importantly: Both Gillian and Boe know how to make excellent coffee.
