Serendipity House in Josiah’s Bay has been a guesthouse for over twenty years. This affordable, budget vacation home is only steps away from a Sunday brunch hot-spot Tamarind Club, we are also 4 minutes by car or less than 15 minutes walking to Josiah’s Bay beach. During winter months it’s more of a surfing beach however good fun, sunbathing and lunch at the Beach Bar is available throughout the year.
Road Town with all the shops, bars and restaurants is only fifteen minutes away by car.
We are an affordable, four unit guesthouse surrounding the pool and in the middle of a lush tropical garden. Four units are Upper Villa, Lower Villa, Poolside Pad and Studio Apartment. The property has WIFI.
Lower Villa is a one bedroom apartment with large verandah and outdoor dining, situated on the ground floor overlooking the lush gardens. Amenities include all linen and towels, full kitchen, cable TV, pool chairs, beach chairs, iron, ironing board, spare folding bed, hammock.
Should you wish and availability allows you may rent more then one unit i.e. Upper Villa, Lower Villa and Poolside Pad. This would sleep up to 10 people.
Alex was great with ideas and suggestions about a trip to BVI before our arrival. The place has seen better days but Alex (who has recently only taken over the property) is keen to get things back to original condition. The location and layout worked great for us. Much better than near town and the club next door has great meals. WIFi speeds were a little sporadic but that seems to be the case everywhere on the island (fibre optic cables being laid around the island during our stay). There was little mix up with our booking dates and Alex happily compensated us and arranged alternate accommodation to minimise any inconvenience. A great host. We would be please to stay here again.
We loved every minute of our stay. Alex was a great host, meeting us when we arrived and shared great information about local beaches, restaurants and points of interest. The villa is close to the airport and several east end marinas. It is very convenient for exploring the island. Down the driveway is a nice little hotel/bar/restaurant where we watched the Super Bowl and had drinks and dinner. We had a great time!!
Alex was great! Very helpful and easily able to be reached for any questions/advice. He stopped by to chat about our plans while on the islands and gave us some great tips/recommendations.
The lower villa was wonderful! Perfect for a couple looking for comfort and yet not so extravagant that we felt like we 'wasted amenities' because we were out and about all day every day. One of the best things about this location is the privacy as well as the proximity to LOCAL activities and people. We prefer not to travel like tourists and this definitely met our needs.
Not our best Airbnb experience. We stayed in Lower Villa for a week between sailing courses. The photos are pretty accurate but a bit dated. The fridge is much smaller now, a tight squeeze since we did all our cooking there. Bring your own matches, since the stove is gas and none are provided. A headlamp is useful, since the flashlight provided is almost out of batteries, and the power went out quite a bit. Yes, plenty of mosquitos, inside and out, hard to get away from them.
The front of the apartment has 3 French doors, only 1 of which has a working screen. We were able to repair one of the locks, but still always took our valuables in the car with us when we left the house, since it really wasn't secure.
Alex met us - nice guy - we didn't see him again during the week, but he did help get the electricity back on after it had been out all day. (No wi-fi for studying.)
It's a long way to a store, and no extras are provided. I suggest you bring paper towels, since the 1 dishtowel and 1 trash bag provided didn't last the week. We found a can opener in another of the villas which was left open, since we didn't have one.
I enjoyed the sounds of the (many) roosters, but I agree with the other reviewers - be aware that there are dogs and they do bark!
OK, this is a shame. Apologies to you guys that it didn't turn out as you wanted.
Your points have been taken.
I will remind you that right at the beginning of your stay I always say, and on the welcome info sheet it says: "If you need anything during your stay please do not hesitate to call or email ... ". Usually if guests have problems like needing an extra dish cloth, some matches, a tin opener, or even if something they really can't solve without help, like the lack of a door screen - they call or email so I can sort it out for them asap. This is normal.
In this case I didn't hear from you guys until ... now. Every day I came by we missed each other, so in the end you left and I had no idea how your stay had gone until reading this review.
Readers beware - it IS quite a small fridge, the room is not THAT big and there are things like dogs, roosters and mosquitoes because this is the Caribbean and that's the reality of life here, (maybe in $1000-a-night resorts they exterminate all unwanted life forms but we are set in a normal community). Serendipity is just coming out of a big renovation so some things might be not be sorted yet (door replacement is next, plus can opener). But please read below for others who enjoyed their stay in this room, which has not caused any complaints until now. And if you stay with us please let us know if something is bothering you - while you're here - so we can avoid this scenario and make sure you have a great time. Thanks!
It was a great trip and Alex helped make it better by being attentive! The villa was great and I would stay there again!
We enjoyed staying at Serendipity! We loved that it was close to Josiah's Bay...which was our favorite beach! Alex was great and the place was clean and pretty comfortable. He was kind enough to let us borrow beach chairs too! It was nice to have The Tamarind close by, but I wasn't super impressed with the food or service, but neither one of us is picky and ate burgers at Josiah's most of the time! Alex also told us about Trunk Bay which you MUST have a 4 wheel to get down the steep dirt road...but it was worth it! We were the only two there! Great relaxing vacation!! Would recomend Serendipity as long as your not looking for luxury and don't mind dogs barking and roosters crowing, which I think there are more of them then people on the island! We loved Tortola but it's not for everyone. I will definitely go back!
Wonderful host and great villa! We really appreciated the beach chairs and cooler Sayula let us borrow. This was a nice location on the island -- the eastern side is much less crowded, especially when the cruise ships are in Road Town, as seemed to happen daily during our visit.
