  • Cool house in a great location. Perfect sized home for hosting 6-9 adults and 1-3 kids. Outdoor fire pit and the premium cable stations on demand are nice perks. Location is a convenient home base for exploring Portland. Overall we had a nice thanksgiving week together, but would add that we found some things about the rental that weren't ideal for this kind of stay. For example, I wish I had known before booking that this was the owner's primary home. Meaning, he had to move his family out for a week so that mine could move in. And because the highlight of the holiday was cooking a meal, it was a bit frustrating to have a fridge that was half-full with their household groceries. I also wish I had known before renting that there is a basement apartment that is part of the home, which is the residence of the owner's adult son. The basement is not part of the rental, but when anyone exits or enters the basement apartment, it feels/sounds like someone has entered on the main floor. Which if you're not expecting it, can feel rather creepy or alarming. We were told that his son would be gone for the entire week, but his son made two unexpected appearances, as did some of his friends who walked into the main house on the day that we had arrived. Also, we had to wash a lot of the dishes and cooking equipment before we used them because they all had residue from previous meals. If Tod and I were friends and I was staying at his house with his family, this wouldn't have bothered me. But because we rented the house and it wasn't cheap, it kind of bugged and grossed us out. Finally, prior to making the reservation Tod was slow to reply to inquiries. And during the stay when I contacted him by phone and email - once to ask why people were walking into the house during our stay, and the second time to respond to a city request that his trailer be moved - he only returned one of my messages. An empty fridge, no other (email hidden) environment, and more responsive host would have made this a 4-star stay for my family's thanksgiving week together. Hope this candid review helps others who are booking and perhaps helps Tod with tweaks for hosting.

  • We had a wondeful stay in Portland the neighborhood is indeed very nice and clean. The house is spacious and offers many amenities. As we were on a longer business trip to attended a conference the house was perfect for us. You can reach the convention center by bus or bike in only 15 minutes and in the house there is more than enough space for all the laptops etc. to work together. I would definetly rent it again!
