We were a bit disappointed by Villa Kallisti. The porter service means someone meets you at the bus stop and carries your suitcases down many stairs, this happens after you call Maria by pay phone - which can be pretty confusing in a foreign country. The location is beautiful but pretty difficult if you have anyone that cannot climb a lot of stairs. The place matches the photos but seems pretty dated. My biggest complaints are the bed and shower in the upstairs apartment. The bed is super uncomfortable and the shower is literally just a shower head in the middle of the bathroom, no curtain. The water pressure in the lower bathroom is pretty bad as well. No internet makes it pretty difficult to connect as well.
The villa had a stunning view of the volcano and water front. Working with Maria was very pleasent and she assisted with setting up our shuttle from the airport to the villa. I would definitely stay there again.
The house was fabulous - amazing views, helpful host who arranged for airport transfer and met us off the taxi to help carry our bags down the steps to the house. People have noted the stairs in past reviews but they weren't bad at all - definitely not an issue for us. The aircon was a godsend and the place was a good size and really clean. Definitely would recommend staying here!
The villa has the best view of the caldera but no view of either sunset or sunrise. Didn't find the villa very clean. The photo doesn't match the reality. Host never showed up during checking in or checking out. Everything was done by the porter Vasilis (sp?). He was a very nice guy and very helpful. We will definitely come back to Oia again but will look for other apartment.
Maria's traditional cave home was everything we expected it to be. Well appointed and with breathtaking views over the caldera. We only used the lower floor of the apartment but we were offered access to a separately keyed upstairs room. Contact with Maria was easy via telephone and her porter met us promptly within 15-20mins. He was like superman and carried our 30kg luggage up, down windy stairs (over 100 steps mind you), in the blazing heat. A nice touch to have a porter assist with luggage.
We stayed at Villa Kallisti in early May for 2 nights. Overall the villa isn't bad. The front living room/kitchen area was clean and big (not sure how you would use the kitchen though to cook- it was very small). The bedroom area was also big and fairly clean. The bathroom was the only sore spot of the house. It was pretty worn down and the shower was barely a shower. The bathroom sink had more water pressure than the shower. The fact that you had to turn on the water heater 20 minutes before showering was also a pain, and there still wasn't enough hot water for 2 people. Also this house is not meant for people who aren't in shape, especially when you have multiple large bags. You have to walk down 100 steps to get to the house from the main street and you have to do that every time you want to go up to the town area. We definitely got our workouts in staying at this place. There was no internet and no local phone which made it hard when we wanted to make reservations for a tour or something. One great thing about this place was the view from the patio area....great view, fairly small patio though. Overall the house is okay for the price.
