La Colombaia is in the middle of a private garden with swimming pool and organic vegetable garden only 40 min. from Florence, Siena and Arezzo.
The villa, reminiscent of the typical Tuscan “Leopoldino” style of architecture, was built with natural materials according to canons of bio-architecture, creating a comfortable environment.
The villa is situated in open countryside on a gentle slope, surrounded by a large garden and fields planted with cypress trees, fruit trees and a biological vegetable garden, from which guests can have fresh produce.
The grounds also host a large pond with fish and wild ducks, where in summer one can admire lovely lily pods and their splendid blossoms.
Close by, just one-hundred meters from the villa, lies the nursery, the owner’s business and passion, with a vast collection of tropical plants.
The villa is occupied on the first floor by its owners. The guest quarters (with private entrance) are located, in the back on the ground floor, and are reached by a semi-circular drive flanked by a line of cypress trees and hedges of rosemary, lavender, and roses.
The guests apartment (1475ft2 / 137m2) can accommodate a maximum of 4 persons and is composed of a kitchen/dining room, 1 double bedroom, 1 big sitting room convertible in a double bed, 2 bathrooms, one with a bath tub and the other with a shower.
A few steps away from the guest quarters, on the south side of the villa, is a swimming pool (4.5x9.5x1.3m), with a slatted-oak sun deck bordered by rosemary and laurel hedges.
It is a ten-minute walk from the country-side villa to the center of town.
With the rent of the house we will be happy to provide you the bicycles (we have 4 available).
La Colombaia is located in the Arno River Valley at a 30 km radius from Arezzo, Siena and Florence, with the Chianti hills to the west and the Pratomagno Mountains to the east.
This is a land where, more than any other place, tradition and daily life exist side by side in perfect harmony. Montevarchi, situated in the midst of what is known as unspoiled “wine country” - with its vineyards, olive trees, castles, medieval hilltop villages and churches - is one of the more lively towns south of Florence.
The old-town center of Montevarchi is only 1 km from the Villa.
The history of Montevarchi dates back to circa 986, when pilgrims and travelers stopped here on their way to and from Rome.
Today the town is quite famous for its contribution to the international fashion industry and boasts the location of prestigious fashion outlets like Prada. From here guests can also easily reach the nearby Mall.
Not to be missed is the Thursday morning market and the indoor farmer market (Mercatale)
The area has excellent restaurants, a farmer’s market and regular train service to Florence, Arezzo, Rome (with connections to every major Italian city)
My family includes my parents, Paolo and Anna, my brother Andrea, and me, Francesco.
We are from Montevarchi, Tuscany. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes, rolling hills and cities of art, we enjoy living and working here.
My father Paolo is a horticulturalist and owns a nursery specializing in ornamental plants-- a family business for three generations. He has many passions, and is especially fond of nature and the arts. He dedicates his free time to La Selva Giardino del Belvedere, an ancient farmhouse immersed in a sprawling botanical park sprinkled with modern art sculptures. It is located just 10 minutes from Montevarchi’s historical center.
For the past four decades, my mother Anna has taught primary school. She is dedicated to her job, loves reading history books, and is passionate about culture. Andrea studies political science at the University of Florence. In his free time, he helps my father out, is a Scout leader and plays rugby.
I work in villas rental and manage La Selva Giardino del Belvedere (AIRBNB Listing #69439) and La Colombaia (AIRBNB Listing #73916). I enjoy snowboarding, sailing, traveling and exploring new cultures—and speak excellent English, too.
In 1996, my parents built La Colombaia, a contemporary, Leopoldine-style Tuscan farmhouse. They constructed the house with natural materials such as handmade terracotta, cypress wood treated with beeswax, coconut fiber and cork, used for insulation. It rises in the midst of a vast, 10,000 metre-squared garden of meadows, various species of trees, a fruit orchard and an organic garden tended by our gardener, Franco.
The swimming pool, an oak solarium, and lounge chairs and umbrella sit adjacent to the house. There is also a lovely pond teeming with fish, blooming water lilies, and other aquatic plants that Paolo cultivates. We love the fact that the house and garden function in perfect harmony. It is a pleasure to welcome guests who love nature as much as we do, and it gives us enormous satisfaction to share in their joy.
Just 300 metres from La Colombaia, our guests can visit the renowned bakery owned by our good friends the Bonci family, whose delicious cakes are world-famous. A 10-minute walk takes you into Montevarchi’s historical center. Dating back to 1000 A.D., here you will discover lovely churches, many museums, restaurants and shops. Florence, Siena and Arezzo are only 40 minutes away by car or train. The A1 Autostrada and the railway allow easy travel to the north or south of Italy.

Francesco and his family are FANTASTIC hosts.
The apartment was Sooooo BIG and so cool in hot weather, plus it had a REALLLLY comfy big king sized bed in a dark room, so much so we slept the best we had in months!
Recommendations to restaurants were fantastic also. We ate the best food we have had on our trip and met the most delightful and friendly Toscano people. Dining highlights were Daniele e Riccardo. ( went back we loved it so much). Uvaspina had delicate beautifully cooked and innovative food and delightful people. Both restaurants we would strongly recommend. Another rec from Francesco was Badia a Coltibuono a Michelin rec as well. Sublime lunch.
The Cioncolinis invited us to share a Meal with them al fresco on their "verandah" as we Aussies would call it. A delightful family who made our Tuscan experience all the better. The food came from the garden which we had also been free to use. Beautiful sweet tomatoes and basil. yum.
Our final word has to be for Francesco's brother Andrea who went WELL above the call of duty when my husband got an infected ulcerated heel. Andrea took us to the hospital translated for us and took us to the Farmacia. We think he was supposed to be with his girlfriend before she went away. We now call him Santa Andrea!!!
Could not recommend this gorgeous peaceful place more highly. WE LOVED our stay!
We had a fantastic stay at this lovely home. Francesco and his family were very welcoming and were nice enough to invite us to share a delicious dinner with them one evening.
The house was nice and cool in the heat of summer, and the garden was a beautiful picnic spot as well as a source of fresh vegetables.
Montevarchi is a wonderful town with some fantastic food and sights, and only a short drive away from the wine region of Chianti.
Francesco and his brother Andrea were both great hosts and gave us a number of great recommendations for food, wine and sightseeing. Highly recommended
We had a wonderful experience staying at Francescoo's villa. We stayed there three nights. We walked around the property and also went on walks around the village. The scenery in the area is spectacular. Francescoo kindly picked us up at the train station and also dropped us off at the station. His family is very warm and friendly. His mother invited us for dinner when we got there. We did not go for the dinner but we were touched by their hospitality. The host also helped buy groceries when we arrived late. So our overall experience was very nice.
We found this very special place almost by accident after a friend suggested airbnb. We decided to book it straight away as it looked homely, welcoming and organized. We travel often since we work in the air transport industry but this was our first experience staying in someone's home rather than in a hotel etc. La Colombaia and the Cioncolini family far exceeded our expectations and would recommend them in a heart beat. The accommodation itself is very comfortable (kept us cool during very hot days and nights) and we felt at home within minutes of being shown around the property. It is very private and secluded, yet close to the lovely and friendly town of Montevarchi. (5 min drive) It is also very close to Florence and wine country which was a focal point for us as we are wine lovers. The Cioncolini family were always too happy to help, suggest great places to visit (incl restaurants and wineries)and dinner (a lovely home cooked meal using their own produce) Al fresco with them was one of the highlights for sure. Anna's cooking is second to none. Francesco is the perfect host who took the time to show us around town where we met some very lovely and interesting people. What really made our trip special was the warmth with which we were welcomed by Anna, Paolo, Francesco, Andrea Il Nonno(gramps) and their two dogs Lello amd Moschina. Looking forward to our next stay which couldn't happen soon enough!!
La Colombaia has lots of character and we really felt like we were at home. Francesco & his family were helpful and made us feel very welcome. We arrived late and they had kindly left groceries so we could cook a meal & have a glass of wine. Much appreciated after a long drive. Montevarchi is not touristy, it is very much a typical Italian town. It is central to Firenze, Sienna & a short drive into the hills leads to some old Tuscan villages that are well worth the visit. The local market and restaurants are very good value, we had the best meal of our entire trip in a local Montevarchi restaurant. The grounds of the house were great for children to run around and there is a vey friendly dog who kept our son entertained for hours! We shared a magical afternoon with the family at their other property which was a great opportunity to experience a Tuscan Sunday lunch. Thanks to all the Cioncolini Family for their warm hospitality.
Francesco and his family were wonderful hosts, very welcoming and couldn’t do enough to make sure we were happy. The house was lovely and cool during the summer heat, as was the pool and gardens. We had a great time and would definitely recommend the house to anyone (we had 2 small children with us).
