It's a small non-smoking house - you have the pleasure of the biggest room. Shared bathroom with shower, toilet and basin, (no bath), shower all day if you want in our double sized shower. Don't bring towels, shampoo or soap as we will supply, but do bring your own toothbrush! Double bed (4 ft 6 inches) with lovely mattress on sprung wood base with a metal head and foot. TV, wi fi, wardrobe, drawers and writing desk area for your laptop/notebook/ipad; tea and coffee making facilities and a selection of classical CDs and films with a player (or a few books to peruse and maybe take with you if you want to finish one). Use of washing machine for a load if you are staying 3+ days. Please note that we are on a main road, although the windows have curtains and double glazing.
Bed and Breakfast may be scrambled eggs, toast and fresh fruit, or maybe a bacon sandwich, fresh fruit with yoghurt. You ask, and we'll tell you if we have it. Vegetarians can feel free to tell us, and be served accordingly (I have a lovely breakfast crumble recipe!) There will always be a good cuppa or three, or if you like coffee you can have an expresso or a whole cafetierre to yourself.
We are 10 minutes walk downhill to shops and pubs and cafes, and we have 4 supermarkets within 5 minutes drive. You can also get a bus right outside the house every hour which will take you to Weymouth in one direction, and Lyme Regis the other. We are less than 10 minutes drive to West Bay, or you can walk it in about 35 minutes - where you can get the BROADCHURCH experience if you are keen.
Our home is 200 years plus. The doors fit but there are gaps at the top and bottom! However, the double glazing works well. There's no carpet on our floors, your room is original boards - but in Winter the house is warm and cosy and we can supply loads of blankets to add to the duvet on the bed, and of course, hot water bottles for cold feet, and in Summer it's it should never be too hot but we can supply you a fan.
Your bedroom and bathroom is upstairs, the dining room and sitting room is downstairs.
Be as friendly much as you want. Maybe you just want to sneak on upstairs? That's fine! If you want a chat, that's fine too. I will join you for breakfast unless you'd like to be alone.
Bridport is a small town with it's own "feel". Many independent shops, market twice a week, some good eating places. Ask me for a town map to find your way. With a car places like Chesil Beach or Lyme Regis are easy to find. You can walk from town to West Bay on the coast in about 30 minutes.
If you are arriving at either Axminster or Dorchester by train, check the 31 bus route which stops right outside our house. We are on a route that goes in one direction to Axminster Devon via Charmouth and Lyme Regis. In the other direction to Weymouth via Dorchester.
If you have a car we will be pleased to tell you about quirky places to visit! Park in our garden.
We are AirBnB travellers as well as hosts.
Mrs Mac and John were excellent hosts. They looked after my every need from preparing a hearty breakfast through helping me package papers to send home to researching a historic clock I wanted to know about at Greenwich Observatory. Great room and bed.
A really lovely place to stay - so many thoughtful touches that make you feel welcome. The room is delightful and Mr and Mrs Mac are very welcoming and generous - fantastic breakfast too. Highly recomended!
I had an interview in Bridport and was very grateful that Mrs Mac could accommodate me at such short notice! So my stay was off to a good start. Everything was fantastic. Mrs Mac gave me fresh (homemade!) scones and tea when I got there and showed me my room. Lovely room with great storage space and lots of nice extras like tea/coffee and plenty of books. I felt very welcome the whole time there and Mrs Mac and John were always up for a chat. I especially enjoyed talking about their travels and Mrs Mac is very big on books, so that was a great topic for conversation. I even came away with one she recommended! They were a great help for last minute lifts and made me feel very relaxed. The house is VERY easy to get to on public transport, and is a fifteen minute walk town hill into the town. Would definitely recommend it, and will hopefully make another trip.
Mrs Mac contacted us before our stay so she could make sure everything was as we needed. We arrived and were greeted with a much needed cup of tea. Mrs Mac and John are very relaxed hosts and the conversation flowed easily. They were a great source of information about the local area and suggested a superb pizza restaurant. The room was excellent; clean, warm, tidy and with tea/coffee. The room was decorated to a high standard and was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was clean and Mrs Mac had provided a few things which travellers may have forgotten. In the morning, breakfast was lovely and set us up nicely for another day of exploring the local area.
You know what they say about the English: They keep a stiff upper lip. And they do! But it is so oft forgotten that they are also one of the warmest hosts on the planet. Don't believe me? Go and stay at Mr. & Mrs. Mac, and you have no choice but to agree. They hold the fine art to make you feel at home. REALLY at home. The place is spic & span, they have an incredible eye for detail, which turn this old cottage into a lovely, warm nest to spend a couple of nights in. My two kids were overwhelmed with Mrs. Mac's charm (and the homemade jam and smoothies...).
A downside? Yes, but only one you have in every old cottage in the world: acoustic insulation is non existent. Nothing a couple of cheap earplugs won't cure... so we slept like a log in our 'silent' room.
I got a bit lost and arrived late but mrs mac have me directions abd came out to the car to meet us. She welcome me and my son with a coffee and told us where we could find a nice mask out. She made us a lovely breakfast of waffles and fruit in the morning before we left. They were a lovely, welcoming couple.
The time with Mrs Mac and John was simply perfect. Apart from being great hosts, they really take pleasure in having guests. So not only was the house spotlessly clean and charming, they were always very helpful and welcoming and there was always room for a laugh. We enjoyed every day, and it was a great pleasure coming back to the Pine Tree Cottage after a days travel. Be it that we just popped into our room, were offered a glass of wine, or could join in for dinner. And yes, the breakfasts are fantastic. We stayed for seven days and Mrs Mac honestly managed to surprise us every morning with a delight we hadn’t had before!
Mrs Mac and John were the perfect hosts, nothing was too much bother for them. The room was lovely, comfortable and with all you need for a few days away. Breakfast was a joy - such a change from the usual full English, much more acceptable in my opinion. It was lovely to meet you both and to sit for hours putting the world to rights!
Without a hint of disappointment, Mrs Mac interrupted Mr Mac's lovingly cooked dinner to welcome me with a cuppa and a chat on my arrival one damp Sunday evening! The 200-year old cottage is lovely and the bedroom just gorgeous - wonderful calm, cocooning colours and fabrics, a big comfy sofa and a deliciously comfortable bed. Plus countless CDs, a stereo, TV and many interesting books - who knew that West Bay was actually Bridport Harbour?? I can't ever remember having had a veggie breakfast like it - a waffle piled with thick yoghurt (or was is crème fraiche - I forgot to ask), raspberries, blueberries and perfectly ripened peaches followed by (yes- seriously there's more) veggie sausages and scrambled eggs. Such a lovely place and such a wonderful couple. I'll be back......
