Studio apartment with king bed or two single beds, kitchen, and bathroom with hot water. Includes access to pool and patio. 3 minute walk to the water, 8 minute walk to swim with dolphins at Anthony's Key or see the botanical gardens, 10 minute taxi ride to West End. Kitchen includes basic pots/pans/dishware, coffee maker and toaster. Apartment is located under owners' home (two children upstairs), on a residential side street, just behind our hostel, so if you feel like socializing, you can go out to the hostel and meet other travelers. Several restaurant choices in walking distance. Outdoor pets of one friendly dog and a cat. Neighbourhood has lots of local flair, including typical island noise of barking dogs and the occasional rooster.
Self-catering apartment, has basic kitchen essentials, linens, towels. Wi-fi available for an additional fee.
Cat and dog are outside pets only.
The room was fine although a bit far from everything. Taxis are cheap, but if I go again I would stay at the West End where everything is within walking distance.
I had a great time at the hostel and in Roatan in general. Mel is super nice and friendly and is ready to answer any questions you might have. There was a great group of people from all over Europe and N. America the week I was there. It was a group that had good chemistry, which enhanced my experience. Picked up great beta on Nicaragua, Guat, Panama, and Costa Rica from fellow travelers. The hostel is well-located. It's a quick ride to West End (which is where all the nightlife is). There's a dive shop within 15 minutes by foot or 3 minutes by car. Fabulous pool located on the premises. Lots of little tiendas within five minutes on foot that sell rum, beer, and breakfast food like eggs, tortillas, beans, all types of fruit, etc. Quick walk down to the water and a pier where one can snorkel.
I would definitely recommend this hostel. One caveat: It was the second-best hostel experience I've ever had but some of that was due to the great chemistry I had with the other travelers. Your experience might vary depending on that factor alone.
We stayed in the studio apartment behind the hostel at Mels and we had a great time during our stay. The pool is nice to relax in, especially in the afternoon after coming back from exploring the island.
Mel is a great host, who is always willing to help new arrivals and suggest where to go and what to see in Roatan.
This place is perfect to have a taste of the Island. The room has everything you need and is very well positioned. Most of all Mel knows everything about the island and she is always very helpful and ready to give you advices!
Mel is the Hostess with the Mostest! Informative, friendly, always available, cant wait to stay here again!
Mel was very cordial and has a sunny manner, however, the room was not as described. (The listing has since been updated and is now more accurate). This is a room in a hostel, not a downstairs studio. It is a backpackers' hostel which means it is very inexpensive and the accommodations were spartan/rough around the edges/has some cleanliness issues. As long as guests know this, I'm sure they'll enjoy their stay.
Mel´s studio apartment is great for a stay in Roatan with a kitchen, porch, use of her swimming pool. We had a very relaxed time and saved a lot of money by cooking. Mel is very helpful and welcoming.

We are a small, friendly hostel in a residential area of the island of Roatan. Dorm rooms include use of a communal kitchen, shady porch, pool and patio. We're just a few minutes walk to the dolphins at Anthony's Key, as well as the botanical gardens,
