The Space

Brand spanking new renovations, original red oak hardwood floors, comfortable accommodations, and being close to everything make this great '50's bungalow--1250 square feet, three bedrooms, one bath in the hip but quiet and friendly Crestview neighborhood--the perfect destination for your Austin getaway! Great layout for families, couples, or friends heading to Central Texas.

In the heart of central North Austin, you're only 8 miles and 15 minutes from downtown and five minutes from the Domain and Arboretum. Centrally located between I-35 and MoPac (Loop 1), and between Lamar Blvd. and Burnet Rd, you can hop in your car and be anywhere in no time.

No car? No problem! Catch the bus two blocks away, or enjoy an eight-block walk through this wonderful neighborhood and catch the new MetroRail train from the Crestview Station and enjoy a little site-seeing along the way. (website hidden)

Many thoughtful amenities have been included in this little B&B, whether your interests run to the Mid-Century but very modern feel of the place, to the well-appointed kitchen with a shelf of regional cookbooks and a freezer full of frosty beer mugs, to comfy chairs with a good reading light over your shoulder, or to the luxurious 400 thread-count all-cotton bed linens.

With all the comforts of home, you can start the day lounging on the big, cushy sofa in the living room with a big mug of hot coffee. If your day starts with your clan whipping up a tasty Texas breakfast, you will enjoy the open plan of the living room and kitchen, or you can grab a stool and hang out over the counter while they're rustlin' those pots and pans.

Those pots and pans go well beyond the beat-up skillet and saucepans you find in your typical vacation rental. This kitchen is well stocked in case you are folks who like to eat well, even when eating in! You'll find most everything you're likely to have at home, from ordinary to the specialty. Heading out to the big deck out back for margaritas under the big oak tree, and need a blender and some salt for the rim of your glass? No problem. Food processor? We got that. Champagne bucket? Check. Lasagna pan? You betcha!

The pantry is stocked with all the basics you wouldn't use up during your stay--flour, sugar, ketchup, mustard (spicy and regular), that margarita salt--those sort of things. You'll find the rest only two blocks away at the Minimax supermarket, a jewel of the neighborhood since 1953, but updated to accommodate the tastes of the residents of this upscale retro neighborhood. Whether your cravings run to a bag of Cheetos or a good bottle of wine--or you simply need diapers for the little one--it's right there.

When you get back from your day's activities, you'll find three very comfortable bedrooms (which sleep up to 7) waiting for you. There's even room for #8 if your crazy cousin takes that big comfy sofa.

When you come in for a landing, you want all the creature comforts, right? The huge Master bedroom offers a soothing and restful start--and end--to your day with a comfortably firm King bed, TV with expanded cable, a wood-burning fireplace (and a stack of wood just steps away), and private access to the deck A clever chair in the Master can become a comfortable twin bed as needed.

The roomy second bedroom offers a Queen bed, and you'll find a Double in the third bedroom, which also has the benefit of privately accessing the large deck out back. Generously-sized closets, comfortable beds, luxurious bedding, ceiling fans, and bedside reading lights round out the accommodations.

No, you don't have to do the laundry, but there is a washer and dryer for your use if you need to spruce up your duds while here. And if you want to throw in a load of towels before heading home, we'd be gosh-darned grateful.

  • Had a very pleasant stay in Austin at EC's place. Very quite neighborhood with friendly folk out walking babies and dogs. The house was just perfect for our group. Central location, so didn't have to spend too much of our time on the (website hidden) was very accommodating and easy to work with, would stay here again in a heartbeat! Great backyard!

  • We were in Austin to visit our daughter and to run the very hilly Austin 1/2. I highly recommend the house and the neighborhood if you want a calm, easy (website hidden) was great and everything is exactly as described. Very good communication, and when we left some shirts in the closet, EC knew we were still in Austin and called to let us know so we could pick them up. Beds are SO comfortable, and the kitchen is super well supplied. Be sure to try the Little Deli down the block. Great place to kick back. Highly recommend.

  • EC is super friendly, accommodating, and best of all, has a great little place in a beautiful neighborhood. Bedding was fantastic, kitchen and washer/dryer were super handy.

  • My family came over to Austin as my wife and I were getting married and we needed some additional accommodation for my brother, sister and best friend to stay.

    Earl Gee was incredibly friendly throughout the whole experience giving us a breakdown of costs etc and met me at the airbnb before they arrived so we could run through the functionality of the property.

    All in all Earl Gee (or EC as he likes to be known) has been very attentive and charming throughout the whole of our first airbnb experience and I would highly recommend using him to anyone in the future!

  • We have just finished our visit in austin. Casita contenta was a perfect home from which to base ourselves. Every possible home comfort was thought of from a fully appointed kitchen, towel, and even some food. The bedrooms were much more comfortable than most hotel rooms and the extra space of having a house was such a bonus. The neighbourhood is very friendly and our host EC was very hospitable and kind. It was also within distance of public transport for getting downtown. I would highly recommend this house for a visit to austin and should we ever be back that direction we would certainly hope to return.

Doesn't the name Earl sound like I *should* be from Texas? :-) Well, I'm a native, from a small town, who came to the Austin area for one of Willie Nelson's picnics back in the day. I fell in love with the place and decided I had to live here,. So I packed my gear and I've been here since 1976! Random facts about me: --Like to travel and have done a fair amount but want to do more! --Wear contact lenses. --Have a 1959 Studebaker restoration project I need to get to --Have four dogs, all rescues. Two of them were planned. (thanks Patti ;-) They are a bit of a hindrance to the travel thing, but my friends who have dogs love to travel too, so we work it out. Plus, they're great dogs. Ask to see pictures of Gizmo, Rocket, Big Red, and KneeHigh. --Sometimes wish I'd gone into architecture or advertising, but I work as a headhunter for a large technology company and greatly enjoy it. --Converting this house to a short-term rental has been a labor of love since I lived here for 20+ years until 2000. It's been fun getting it ready for you! --Collect (my friends might say "amass") Mid-Century Modern furniture and iconic American collectibles. Ask to see my Zorro lunchbox! ----I've stayed in hotels and I've stayed in vacation rentals. I like the vacation rentals better. I think you will too, and you'll like what you find in the little home-away-from-home I've prepared for you here in Austin. --Love listening to '50's R&B on vinyl. --Am a really nice guy, or so I'm told :-)
