First, I don't think the "Cozy Cottage" we rented was the same one other reviewers here have commented on unless a parallel universe is a work here. The "host" Barbara, (who I don't think was the owner but noticed that airbnb is kind of a "wild west" of contacts; never quite sure if you're dealing with an owner, a property manager, a realtor...) was very nice, prompt, and responsive. HOWEVER, the short story is the pics are NOT an accurate representation of this place. Here's our experience (and I have photos to document every comment I am making but it doesn't seem that airbnb is interested in that level of "sharing". As a first-time airbnb user, I was wary of venturing into this type of arrangement for accommodations. After much research, my partner and I booked "Cozy Cottage" based on the location, so many positive reviews (!?) and pictures. Our three night stay (June 26th through 29th, 2104) was to be part of a two-week California road trip vacation which began in San Francisco and ended in LA. We stayed at a variety of places along the way, from an inn in San Francisco to a beach motel in Cambria to a resort in Santa Barbara and a small (9 room) inn in Palm Springs -- some inexpensive, others not but all a fair value. When we arrived at Cozy Cottage, our first impression was that it was somewhat charming but old but decided to convince ourselves we could manage for three days. Barbara said she would replace the umbrella which had large holes in it and was completely bent. She turned on the air conditioning for us and promptly left after a quick walk-through. We then walked around a bit while trying to convince ourselves that it wasn't so bad and began to notice that (in addition to a smell), the pictures IN NO WAY REPRESENTED THE CONDITION! FILTHY! We decided we couldn't stay here and immediately went online to book acceptable accommodations elsewhere (NOT on airbnb by the way!). And no, I was not going to start making phone calls to Barbara, reviewing airbnb refund policies, or requesting concessions in the middle of my vacation and ESPECIALLY not on a Thursday afternoon when we needed to find acceptable accommodations immediately. Here are some details (each of which I have documented with photos) and which show no resemblance to the airbnb pictures: -Weeds growing through the bathroom window into the house (yes, vines folks! - Mold and mildew on bathroom sink, tub faucet and sink faucets; lots of it (DISGUSTING!) - Based on a tub drainage issue noted by a previous reviewer, we decided to test it and found (email hidden)e drain STILL doesn't drain! -Crud, dirt, cigarette stains on bathroom window sills -Cracked toilet cover; dirtily toilet -Temporary paper shades throughout cottage that were duct taped to the windows and which could not be raised -Admittedly a charming vintage tiled kitchen counter but it was in desperate need of...
The cottage was nice, but I thought it was too expensive for what you get. It is very old and in need of serious updates. However, it was clean. I thought $150 plus fees was pretty steep. The shower did not drain at all and the air conditioning made loud whirring noises. Overall, though, we had a pleasant stay. If you are using (website hidden) maps to get there, be sure to put in N Hayworth because without the "N" it took me to a totally different part of town with no air bnb to speak of, and I had trouble reaching the host for several hours. The neighborhood was great for walking or jogging and seemed very safe. Close to lots of great cafes and groceries.
An absolutely great place and location! Barbara was very helpful and i would certainly rent this location again!
A very charming little bungalow. As described, very quiet, bright and well-appointed. My mother, who is over 65 and not a big traveler, stayed there by herself, and she was pleased with it and felt safe in the neighborhood. We never needed to contact Barbara, though I know she was always available. Plenty of things to do within walking distance.
My wife and I just stayed for an extended time at Barbara's cottage in West Hollywood. It was as perfect as could be. The cottage was beautiful, warm, clean, fully furnished, we loved it! There's an outdoor garden where you can sit and drink coffee in the morning. The cottage is bright and sunny nearly the entire day, and is located in the middle of West Hollywood so you can walk to most places. Parking on the street was never a problem. Barbara gives you a parking permit that allows you to park at night on the street and we always found a spot without even having to look. Barbara herself was a gracious and wonderful host. She was available at any time for any questions and was a real pleasure to deal with. During our stay the cable TV company changed their broadcast format and we needed a new cable box. Barbara was at the cottage the next day, a Saturday, with a new box and didn't leave until she made sure that the cable TV was working fine. We had a truly great time and won't hesitate to come back. As I wrote at the top, our stay couldn't have been better. For me, the cottage gets a perfect rating!
My best friend and I decided to take a 30th birthday trip to LA, and Barbara's cozy cottage was a great choice for us. We each had our own space and ample room to spread out. The cottage is in a group of charming cottages that, while VERY close together, were still pretty private and quiet. The location is great both in terms of things in the area and convenience for getting to other places. And the parking permit can't be beat! Would definitely stay there again.
Cottage was just as described - in a fantastic, central location very easily accessible to everything. Had no trouble finding street parking (thank goodness for that permit!) at different hours of the day/night. Bed was comfortable, cottage was clean and bright when we arrived and had everything we needed (iron, cooking supplies, etc.). Debora was very responsive and a pleasure to communicate with. Thanks for a lovely stay!
We had a great 3 week stay. The cottage was very cozy and very conveniently located for shopping and going out. There is a lot of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Internet worked well and was very important to us as we needed to do some work the first week we were there.
Debora checked to make sure we were settled fine and was very prompt with correspondence upon check-out as well.
We can highly recommend this place for anyone looking to spend a few days or a few weeks in WEHO.
Wonderful place, great location, everything was exactly what we hoped for.
Deborahs apartment was very nice and clean. We where two friends and we had our own rooms to sleep in. The kitchen is good and also the bathroom. The weather was not so good when we where in L.A and it was a bit chilly in the apartment. But otherwise everything was okey. And I must tell everyone that it's okey to NOT go by car in L.A! The buses and the underground is excellent. And the apartment is located just by many buses.
