A sunny, garden flat just one block from the Three Sisters and Jamison Valley bush walks.

The space
A restored 1940's holiday flat in a garden setting.

It is only one block from the famous Three Sisters at Echo Point. Watch sunset over the Jamison Valley when all the tourists have left for the day.

Several of the Blue Mountains' most famous bush walks can be accessed from the east end of the street and all the restaurants, cafes and bric a brac shops of Katoomba and Leura are also very close.

The flat faces north so sun fills the space during the day. A beautiful 'Eco- Smart' open fire keeps it cosy at night and there are heaters and electric blankets in both bedrooms. There is a queen sized bed in the main bedroom and a double bed in the second bedroom. A substantial roll-away single bed can also be used in any of the rooms. All mattresses and linen are good quality. Linen and towels are supplied

What makes the flat unique are the beautiful Mid-20th Century furniture and fittings including 1950's and 1960's pieces from Australia and Denmark. The floors are polished hardwood with scattered hides and rugs. The original bathroom and kitchen have been sensitively restored. For those who like to cook the kitchen is very well equipped.

There are two TVs (lounge and 2nd bedroom) with video/ CD/ DVD players, movies, games and books for when entertainment tastes differ.

Total floor area is 70 square meters.

Guest access
No 20 Forster Rd is a pale grey building (there is an identical building in a mirror position at no. 22). Flat 2 is the front flat, facing the street.

READ THIS VERY CAREFULLY ...There is a coded lock on the SIDE door of the flat. NOT THE FRONT DOOR. The side door is on the right hand side as you look directly at the flat. We change the code frequently. If arriving after dark a sensor light should assist you to find the door and use the coded lock. When you get in, there is a key to the front door hanging immediately in front of you on the wall hanger. During your stay this will be easier to use than the coded lock. Please leave it in the same place when you leave.

PARKING: Please park in the carport space marked ‘2’ immediately to the right (west) of the garage.
The left hand (east) side carports are owned by someone else so please don’t park there.
There is lots of street parking but beware, as this area is very close to The 3 Sisters there are sometimes parking officers.

NOTE the driveway is shared with other guests and our next door neighbours. Please proceed slowly and carefully down the drive way.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT LOCK EITHER OF THE SCREEN DOORS. IF YOU DO, OUR CLEANER WILL BE LOCKED OUT. Thanks

Other things to note
It may have been a few days since the cleaner prepared the flat and we do not live in Katoomba, so we are unable to provide perishables like milk or butter. There are basics such as oil, vinegar, tea, coffee and spices. Collect the things you like to eat on your way to the flat.

The Eco Smart open fire burns methylated spirits (metho). There will be five litres in the special dispenser on the kitchen floor. This should be more than enough for a few evenings however, if you have the fire on all day at a high temperature you might run out. Use this purpose built metho dispenser to avoid spills. Please read the instructions for the fire in the dark grey folder. It is very easy to use but read the instructions first.

The turntable is a ‘vintage’ automatic 1980s machine. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY MANUAL OPERATION OF THE TURNTABLE, it will break. Follow the typed instructions on the turntable.

The roll-away bed (if needed) is in the main wardrobe. If the bed is not made up already, clean linen (and a fluid proof mattress protector for young children) can be found in a plastic bag in the main wardrobe.

Please do not dispose of cooking oil by pouring down the kitchen sink. This will block the plumbing!

Garbage night is Tuesday. If you are staying or checking out on Tuesday please leave both bins on the street in front of the letter boxes.

PLEASE DO NOT STAND or (in case of children) jump on the lounge room furniture. It is a valuable 1960's Danish set and restoration costs for splits in the wooden slats are high. If you need to stand on something there is a step ladder in the main bedroom.

PLEASE TURN OFF ALL HEATERS, ELECTRIC BLANKETS and LIGHTS, and LOCK ALL WINDOWS WHEN YOU LEAVE

The internet password is annotated on the modem and there is a magnet on the fridge.

Please remember that this flat has been 'restored' not 'renovated'. Most of the surfaces are original (floors, tiles, bathroom fittings, kitchen cabinets) and have almost 70 years of wear and tear. In some places they are scratched or might appear dusty (e.g. edges of bathroom tiles and toilet base, hardwood floors). Please appreciate the patina and be reassured that all surfaces have been well cleaned.

Local Recommendations

Food and Wine shopping
Todarello's Katoomba Village Fruit Market 170 Main St, Katoomba
The Carrington Cellars and Deli in Park St. Katoomba. Located in the old power station, this is a wonderful experience. Don’t buy your wine anywhere else!
Hominy Bakery 185 Katoomba St. This is where to buy bread, cakes, cookies and pies

Cafes
Fresh Espresso & Food Bar Shop 5, 181 Katoomba St.
Red Door Café, 134 Leura Mall.
Yellow Deli, 214 Katoomba St, Katoomba. The food is very good and the interiors unique!
Bakehouse on Wentworth, 206 Leura Mall. This where to buy pies for an easy lunch.

Lunch
Solitary Restaurant & Kiosk, 90 Cliff Drive, Katoom(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). We love to take a 45 min. bush walk from the end of Forster Rd. Lunch is served on the lawn, overlooking the Jamison Valley. It’s also a wonderful dinner experience but you need to book in advance.
Leura Garage, 84 Railway Parade, Leura ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).This is good for catching the sun in winter

Dinner
There are many local restaurants and you will find something good but it is also worthwhile to think ahead and book. We like the following options (in increasing order of $$)
Hana Japanese Restaurant & Cafe, 121 the Mall, Leura. Very good fun and excellent value.
Sanwiye Korean Café, Shop 2, 177 Katoomba St. (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
Pins on Lurline, 132 Lurline St, Katoom(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). A blend of Japanese, Italian and Contemporary Australian. On Trip Advisor this is Katoomba’s most popular restaurant!
Station Bar & Wood Fired Pizza, 287 Bathurst Rd, Katoomba
Avalon Restaurant, In the Old Savoy Picture Theatre, 8-18 Katoomba St. ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). This restaurant is an institution. The room in an old art deco cinema is a ‘shabby chic.’ The food is hearty but unremarkable.
Rooster Restaurant, 48 Merriwa St, Katoom(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). This is old fashioned French cuisine and superb for a long winter lunch or dinner.
Solitary Restaurant & Kiosk, 90 Cliff Drive, Katoom(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)lk's Brasserie 128 The Mall, Leura ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)

AND…..For a quiet Friday night drink with the locals we recommend Champaign Charlies Bar at The Carrington Hotel or for a not so quite drink with the locals, The Old City Bank Bar at the Carrington Hotel.

Vintage, bric-a-brac shopping
Just about every Australian charity has a thrift shop in Katoomba and there are some funky reconditioned clothes shops in Waratah St. Katoomba and also in Leura. We like Mrs Peel in Leura Mall. There are also many second hand dealers and on any Saturday there will be at least 20 local Garage sales. Check The Blue Mountains Gazette web-site for addresses. These are our favourite second hand shops.

Macarthur's Arcade, 84 Katoomba St, Katoomba, NSW (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).
Pink Flamingo ,30 Railway Parade Hazelbrook
Victory Theatre Antique Centre , 15-17 Govetts Leap Rd, Blackheath
Katoomba Village Emporium, Katoomba St, Katoomba,

There is a bush walking guide at the flat and this is a good web site (URL HIDDEN)
Several of the most famous walks can be accessed at the end of the street e.g. Giant Staircase to Leura Forest walk (approx. 3hrs), Leura Cascades and the Giant Staircase to The Scenic Railway (both approx. 2hrs). If they sound too strenuous, it is a gentle 45 minute walk to Solitary Kiosk for a fabulous brunch.
