Sunny two bedroom garden flat just one block from the Three Sisters and Jamison Valley bushwalks.
Our Katoomba Flat “a far cry from the chintzy style you might expect in the Blue Mountains" Sydney Morning Herald Weekends Away Nov 13 2010.
Our Katoomba Flat is a recently restored 1950s holiday flat in a pretty garden setting. It is only one block from the famous 3 Sisters at Echo Point. You can walk there to watch sunset over the Jamison Valley when all the tourists have left for the day. Several of the Blue Mountains' most famous bush walks can be accessed from the end of the street and all the resturants, cafes and bric a brac shops of Katoomba and Leura are also very close.
The flat faces directly north so sun fills the space during the day. A beautiful 'Eco- Smart' open fire keeps it cosy at night and there are heaters in both bedrooms. There is a queen sized bed in the main bedroom and a double bed in the second bedroom. A substantial roll-away single bed can also be used in any of the rooms. All mattresses and linen are new and good quality. Linen and towels are supplied
What makes the flat unique are the beautiful Mid-20th Century furniture and fittings including 1950s and 1960s pieces from Australia and Denmark. The floors are polished hardwood with scattered hides and flokati rugs. The original 1950s bathroom and kitchen have been sensitively restored and for those who like to cook the kitchen is very well equipped.
There are two flat screen TVs (lounge and 2nd bedroom) with video/ CD/ DVD players, movies, games and books for when entertainment tastes differ. There is also a turntable and an extensive collection of LPs to allow music enthusiasts to enjoy the sound of vinyl.
Interaction with Guests
We do not live in Katoomba so we do not meet our guests. We are available by phone to answer any questions. We have a professional cleaner who will notify us about the condition of the flat after guests leave.
Food and Wine shopping
Todarello's Katoomba Village Fruit Market 170 Main St, Katoomba
The Carrington Cellars and Deli in Park St. Katoomba. Located in the old power station, this is a wonderful experience. Don’t buy your wine anywhere else!
Hominy Bakery 185 Katoomba St. This is where to buy bread, cakes, cookies and pies
Fresh Espresso & Food Bar Shop 5, 181 Katoomba St.
Red Door Café, 134 Leura Mall.
Yellow Deli, 214 Katoomba St, Katoomba. The food is very good and the interiors unique!
Bakehouse on Wentworth, 206 Leura Mall. This where to buy pies for an easy lunch.
Solitary Restaurant & Kiosk, 90 Cliff Drive, Katoomba (phone number hidden). We love to take a 45 min. bush walk from the end of Forster Rd. Lunch is served on the lawn, overlooking the Jamison Valley. It’s also a wonderful dinner experience but you need to book in advance.
Leura Garage, 84 Railway Parade, Leura (phone number hidden). This is good for catching the sun in winter
There are many local restaurants and you will find something good but it is also worthwhile to think ahead and book. We like the following options (in increasing order of $$)
Hana Japanese Restaurant & Cafe, 121 the Mall, Leura. Very good fun and excellent value.
Sanwiye Korean Café, Shop 2, 177 Katoomba St. (phone number hidden)
Pins on Lurline, 132 Lurline St, Katoomba, (phone number hidden). A blend of Japanese, Italian and Contemporary Australian. On Trip Advisor this is Katoomba’s most popular restaurant!
Station Bar & Wood Fired Pizza, 287 Bathurst Rd, Katoomba
Avalon Restaurant, In the Old Savoy Picture Theatre, 8-18 Katoomba St. (phone number hidden). This restaurant is an institution. The room in an old art deco cinema is a ‘shabby chic.’ The food is hearty but unremarkable.
Rooster Restaurant, 48 Merriwa St, Katoomba (phone number hidden). This is old fashioned French cuisine and superb for a long winter lunch or dinner.
Solitary Restaurant & Kiosk, 90 Cliff Drive, Katoomba (phone number hidden).
Silk's Brasserie 128 The Mall, Leura (phone number hidden)
AND…..For a quiet Friday night drink with the locals we recommend Champaign Charlies Bar at The Carrington Hotel or for a not so quite drink with the locals, The Old City Bank Bar at the Carrington Hotel.
Vintage, bric-a-brac shopping
Just about every Australian charity has a thrift shop in Katoomba and there are some funky reconditioned clothes shops in Waratah St. Katoomba and also in Leura. We like Mrs Peel in Leura Mall. There are also many second hand dealers and on any Saturday there will be at least 20 local Garage sales. Check The Blue Mountains Gazette web-site for addresses. These are our favourite second hand shops.
Macarthur's Arcade, 84 Katoomba St, Katoomba, NSW (phone number hidden).
Pink Flamingo ,30 Railway Parade Hazelbrook
Victory Theatre Antique Centre , 15-17 Govetts Leap Rd, Blackheath
Katoomba Village Emporium, Katoomba St, Katoomba,
There is a bush walking guide at the flat and this is a good web site (website hidden),bushwalking.
Several of the most famous walks can be accessed at the end of the street e.g. Giant Staircase to Leura Forest walk (approx. 3hrs), Leura Cascades and the Giant Staircase to The Scenic Railway (both approx. 2hrs). If they sound too strenuous, it is a gentle 45 minute walk to Solitary Kiosk for a fabulous brunch.
The bus stop is on Lurline street near Echo Point. The Red hop on hop off tourist bus goes down the street and stops at Echo Point.
Other Things to Note
The 1980s automatic turntable is just that, 'automatic'. Any attempt at manual operation will break it. This means that the next guest can't play vinyl and it will take us hours to fix it when we next visit. Please follow the instructions on the turntable and please DO NOT attempt to steer the needle arm manually.

Lovely home in a great location. We had a wonderful visit to the Blue Mountains, and our stay in this very comfortable home was perfect. Many thanks!
The house location was great to most popular hiking trails. The distance to Katoomba downtown was about 30 mins on foot, which is also not too bad. The house was clean and well-maintained. The only thing we enjoyed the least was the shower. The water temperature fluctuates, and the smoke detector outside of the bathroom was very sensitive, it went off too easily which was a little annoying. Tracey is a great host, she's very responsive.
We he so much fun in Katoomba. The unit was in a very accessible place to see the sights and take hikes, and was a pretty manageable walk from town when the buses weren't running. The record player was the highlight, pumping gorgeous music thought the place morning and night. We had good communication with Tracey and Tony about where to find things and what to do in the area. Highly recommend spending 3 nights or more up here to see many of the attractions.
This was the perfect place! Immaculate and a really neat style to the rooms. Also a stone's throw to Echo Point and the Information Centre. We made our own meals in the kitchenette (which had everything we needed) and used the cute fireplace on a chilly night. Loved it here!
The listing description and photographs of the flat were very accurate. Tracey's communication was prompt, clear and concise. The neighbourhood was quiet and the flat is near some bushwalking tracks which we explored. It was a pleasure to stay in this well organised and clean flat. The furnishings really suited the flat and never crossed over into kitsch.
Our stay was so comfortable and enjoyable. Tracey's communication was clear and helpful; and the apartment was beautifully presented and well stocked.
The apartment is in a great position for those unfamiliar with Katoomba. Easy access to great walks, beautiful views, and a number of restaurants. Even though the apartment is close to Echo Point, the street is quiet and private.
We would definitely stay again.

'Our Katoomba Flat' is our family holiday house. Originally a purpose built 1950s holiday flat, our restoration kept most of the original architectural features and we filled it with our collection of mid 20th century furniture and bric a brac.Like us, most peoplle who visit love it. It has great light and the best aspect for sunlight and warmth. It is only minutes walk to The 3 Sisters and numourous bush walks into and around the famous Jamison Valley.
