Ginkgo Guesthouse is located in one of Kingston's oldest neighbourhoods, close to many terrific restaurants, shops, tourist services, yacht clubs, the Rogers K-Rock Centre, markets, hospitals, universities and places of interest. The surroundings are pedestrian-friendly, smog-free and reminiscent of Canada's early history.
Buses stop at the corner, 20' from the door. Kingston is bicycle-friendly, and close by is the lakefront walkway along Lake Ontario. The Wolf Island Ferry is a ten-minute walk. Horse-drawn carriages pass by in summer and the city is small enough to be a pedestrian's dream.

Not far are hiking trails, kayak rentals, fitness facilities, yoga,Thousand Islands tour boats, the Tour Trolley, Fort Henry, historical architecture and ice cream. Summer music festivals and the Kingston Writer's Fest in September are serious attractions.
Consider yourself at home. If lunch or dinner are requested, a day's notice is appreciated. The house is for non-smokers where general rules of domestic courtesy are shared.
Myself and another classmate spent 2 and 3 weeks in Kingston while on clinical electives. The house is located perfectly between both hospitals in the city (KGH and the HDH). Close proximity to downtown and a host of unique dining experiences. Joan is a wonderful, welcoming host and the meals we shared were delicious. We would definitely stay here again.
Joan's home is warm and welcoming just like she is. Great food, advice and company. We had some great conversations about journalism, politics and travel. I enjoyed watching '60s television and walking Howie and Agnus, Joan's two Blue Heelers.
Would highly recommend staying under Joan's roof!
Great Host! Awesome Food. Highly recommend staying here.
Me and my girlfriend spent 12 nights in Joan's room during my search for a room to rent for the fall term (I am an German exchange student at the Queen's University). The room is very well located near to the waterfront, between the university and downtown- everything is nearby! Joan was very (!) welcoming: We had great communication before, during and hopefully after our stay as well. She offered us breakfast every morning and on four days, we had delicious dinner together. She introduced us to her nice friends (who borrowed us their bikes to explore Kingston!) and gave us recommendations where to eat in Kingston and what to visit. She drove us to the sunset ceremony at Fort Henry and picked us up afterwards, which was really great! Moreover she showed us the countryside of Kingston, which was really cool as well! She has two lovely dogs and a cat that are very calm, friendly and well-behaved. However, one should of course like animals when coming in a household with 3 pets. Our room was exactly as shown in the pictures and we were provided everything we needed.
All in all we can totally recommend Joan's home, especially because of the family-style, welcoming atmosphere that allows interesting conversations and discussions. Thank you very much Joan!
Joan was a wonderful host; interesting conversation, sharing ideas on things to do and places to visit, and cooking creative meals (ask Joan for details), watching movies together, etc. It was like visiting family and I was sad to leave.
Joan is a welcoming, friendly, helpful host. She gave me a whole history lesson on Kingston in the first day! The gorgeous room was quite comfortable and the location was superb. Thanks again, Joan!
I love to promote Kingston, Ontario's architectural and cultural treasure. A visit to my house is informal - like staying with a family member, plus two dogs and a cat. I can help you find what Kingston has to interest you, and I can leave you alone to discover it for yourself. I am always keen to hear what you have learned and how your day went.
