About this listing
Take a century old carriage house, locate in the best living and shopping neighborhood in San Francisco, tear out the insides, and completely update.
Just off 24th street in a quiet alley-way, we found the perfect place to renovate and update. From dark-small rooms, we tore down walls, ripped up carpet (to find great hardwood) and redid just about everything.
The result is something that is absolutely central in one of the best neighborhoods in the city. Bright, modern and peaceful, it's the ideal home base in San Francisco. You can walk to some of our favorite food places (crepes at Savor), coffee (Martha Brothers) and groceries (Whole Foods) in under 5 minutes.
We're just 2 minutes from the J-Church street car line, that goes directly downtown. You can also walk 10 minutes and get to BART which goes directly to the airport or downtown as well.
Inside we've completely redone the kitchen. Modern appliances and everything our friend, a Cordon-Bleu trained chef has told us to get for her when she visits.
We have a big LCD TV with wi-fi capability and Netflix access. There's an Apple TV box as well attached to the TV, for the BYO crowd.
For the more technically oriented, there's 50mb broadband, WiFi, a printer/copier/fax and an Apple TV in the house as well so you will not be out of touch.
We've done our best to be eco-friendly here. The roof has hot-water solar (feel free to take long afternoon showers), most of the lights are LEDs (many of them using the new L-prize winner Philips LED bulbs) and the home is equipped with smart power and heat management systems.
Each of the two units in the building has access to its own washer and dryer. The units share one garage spot, which is available for use with prior arrangements and a small additional fee. Please note that the garage space will only accommodate a compact car and drivers should be comfortable with snug spaces and city driving.
Have fun. A detailed guide to the place will be emailed to you prior to arrival.
We regret, however, that we cannot accept pets and no smoking is permitted.
I had a fantastic four month stay at the Mersey St. apartment while in the city on a business assignment. It's a great space - lovely high ceilings, beautiful floors, cosy furnishings and a massive kitchen that made all my SF friends jealous :) The location was also ideal - with all the 24th St shops and restaurants at your feet and the BART an easy walk away. Super convenient if you're working long hours (or, preferably, out touring SF all day)! I'm missing the place already!
The apartment worked out great and was as pictured. Would book here again.
The apartment in the Noe Valley neighborhood was more than we ever expected. The rooms were clean, well appointed and very comfortable. An added bonus of garage parking make the stay even more enjoyable as my husband is handicapped and we loved the added convenience. We loved walking the neighborhood and getting to know the surrounding area. In addition, Noe Valley is central to everything in San Francisco and an easy drive to to tourist attractions.
I rented this apartment for my in-laws who were visiting from Sweden. During their visit we spent quite some time in the apartment, which is excellent in every way. I highly recommend it.
First, it is in a great area. Noe Valley, nestled next to the Mission is a quaint, family-oriented neighborhood, with good shopping and great dining options. The apartment is just steps away from good breakfast places, restaurants, bars. Whole Foods (natural/organic food supermarket) is three blocks away. The city’s hipster neighborhood, the Mission is only three - four blocks away as well if you are interested in world class restaurants or cool dive bars. ((website hidden)). Dolores Park is also walking distance.
As for the apartment, it was spotless and very well equipped. What you see on the pictures here is what you get - a truly beautiful, "very San Francisco" apartment. The bed in the bedroom (according to my in-laws) is the best they ever had in a hotel/ rental. The kitchen is amazing. We used it quite a lot, as we had dinners together with the in-laws. We also rented the garage - it only fits a compact size car, but it made our life so much easier and Paul rented it to us for a really reasonable price. As for the noise, mentioned in other reviews, we did not have any problems. The apartment is in a very cute, small street thus I am surprised that some renters had issues. Yes, you can hear the upstairs renters walking sometimes, but it is not disturbing at all. Also during the visit we contacted Paul a few times, he is excellent, communicative and responsive host.
All in all, as others said, the experience was a wonderful one! We are definitely renting this apartment again for our guests if needed.
Thanks for everything again!
As a frequent flier to SF, I wanted to change up the routine a bit and stay in a home away from home. This apartment provided exactly that! The apartment was immaculate, well-stocked and most importantly, comfortable.... not to mention convenient in terms of location to restaurants, BART and a Saturday farmer's market on 24th Street. The hosts were also very responsive when it came to our pre-arrival questions.
I did read a few comments where people discussed the noise from the apartment above or outside. But honestly speaking, we noticed nothing. We did have people staying in the apartment upstairs and while we could hear them walking, it was nothing extreme or anything to be concerned with. We also slept with the windows open in the bedroom and barely heard a peep from outside. But for those that may be more sensitive to noise, the hosts do graciously provide earplugs and a sound machine for your comfort (alongside a host of other amenities -- from Netflix to champagne upon arrival).
All in all, the experience was a wonderful one, and I would rent the space again whenever needed.
Paul's apartment is tucked away off the main shopping street of Noe Valley, which is an excellent location. Proximity without the noise. The apartment is clean and well maintained and Paul himself was an excellent, communicative and responsive host. The fully equipped kitchen with a dining section and the cosy living room with a great desk space (and printer) all help make this apartment an ideal home away from home.
Paul also provided a very comprehensive and useful handbook for everything you need in the apartment and within the surrounding areas.
Had a fantastic stay here!!! The apartment has everything you would need. Paul left us a bottle of bubbly and a convenience pack (w shampoo, conditioner etc... Even band aids!). Just such a nice touch. The apartment is gorgeous - it is fully renovated, the kitchen is seriously amazing. Everything is clean and well maintained. The apartment is located in a very convenient spot - near the Bart, near buses, near lots of really great cafés and restaurants (saru sushi is only 2 mins walk...so good!). Oh and the living room fold out was very comfortable too! Everything here was absolutely amazing. Thanks for a great stay! Paul was also really nice to accommodate an early check-in which was much appreciated.
