The Space

Designed by renowned Architect Matthew Falkner, Casa Suerte serves as an idyllic setting for those looking for a tranquil and certainly unique Nicaraguan destination.

Located hillside in the private ecological reserve and boutique community of Balcones de Majagual, the house features views directly out to beautiful Majagual beach, and it is often easy to spot passing humpback whales from your own 520 square feet private deck which overlooks the serene infinity swimming pool. In addition to whales, you will be sure to encounter an abundance of interesting wildlife, including our own community of placid howler monkeys, which never cease to fascinate and charm guests.

Enjoy evening cocktails on the deck while watching a picture perfect Pacific coast sunset followed by a dinner cooked on the house’s 4-burner Charbroil BBQ. You can even purchase fresh fish and lobsters pulled straight from the sea by local fisherman down at our local beach!

Casa Suerte comprises of cooling polished concrete floors, and beautifully detailed native hardwood features throughout. The house has and has been designed to allow natural airflow throughout constantly, making it a comfortable retreat after a day in the sun at one of the local surf beaches, many of which are in walking distance, or a short drive from the house.

Two generously proportioned bedrooms, each with ensuite, are supplemented with an additional office/library with a double sofa bed, comfortably accommodating a 5th guest. The interior is fitted with a mix of architect-designed furniture, mixed with Nicaraguan antique pieces.

In contrast to it’s natural setting the house is appointed with essential modern services, including a dedicated Wi-Fi service and PC, laptop, plus fully fitted kitchen with extra bar fridge to ensure your drinks are kept cool, and it’s own washer/dyer should you require it. Your stay is made comfortable by the onsite services that provide 24hour security, maid and pool cleaning services. A fluent english and spanish speaking meet and greet is included in the cost of rental.

Located 12km north of lovely San Juan Del Sur guests are strongly recommended to hire a four-wheel drive vehicle which will not only allow access to Casa Suerte but also to many of the unique beaches in the surrounding area. Once out of town all roads are dirt so it’s a great opportunity to enjoy country roads and explore the region

If you are seeking a relaxing and unique experience, in a beautifully appointed home and have a sense of adventure (while enjoying your creature comforts), we invite you Casa Suerte, Balcones de Majagual

The Neighborhood

One of the best parts of staying at Casa Suerte is the quiet that allows you to enjoy the sounds of the jungle. On days when the breezes are gentle you can hear the ocean crashing. Every day you can sit and enjoy your morning coffee with the parakeets singing and the Mono Congo monkey's hanging in the trees around the house. Fall asleep to the sound of crickets singing outside the house. Unlike many of the homes in and around San Juan Del Sur, Casa Suerte is unique in its setting. Perched on a ridge, the home is located in a private boutique community, containing 11 homes on roughly 100 acres stretching from the jungle to the ocean. There is enough space between homes to enjoy complete privacy without feeling alone or isolated. The lack of light pollution allows you to swim in the pool on clear nights by moonlight, something not to be missed. We provide 24 hour on site security, cleaning service and management without being intrusive. We are also an ecologic conscious community. What does this mean? We do not believe in spraying heavy pesticides like local hotels do to control bugs, what this does mean is you may encounter a few critters in and around the house, but we are not poisoning the food chain from the bottom up. All of our actions have far reaching consequences, and we want monkeys and parrots to visit the home. We heat our water with solar heat (and there is no lack of that!) and all our furniture and wood in the home is reclaimed fallen hardwoods, ethically sourced in north east Nicaragua.

  • Casa Suerte truly lives up to its reviews and photos. Nothing can do the location, comfort, and feeling of pure bliss and escape justice.

First of all, the host we met at Remax was extremely helpful and nice and gave us a complete tour of town, took us to 4 different grocery stores/food shops (definitely don't miss out on the bakery in town!) and personally brought us up to the house. They're not kidding when they say you need a good car to get through that road, but the trip is all worth it once you arrive. The house is about 25 minutes from town - sometimes a little longer if it's at night. Again, most of the roads aren't paved so it can be a pretty bumpy ride!

The kitchen was very well stocked and we ended up cooking most of our meals at the house because it was so easy. Also because that deck provided the perfect setting for every meal - we could have spent all our days on that deck!

The beaches that are only a 5 min drive away and were absolutely incredible as well. While Playa Maderas is only a cove over, we preferred the more secluded beach right in front of where you can park your car.

It's almost important to note that they had a guard sitting outside our house at all hours, as well as the guards at the entrance to the community. We could not have felt safer! Can't say enough good things about our experience, only that our stay was much too short.

  • We got off to a bad start with this house, but by the end we didn't want to leave. It began with our drive -- we thought we had rented an automatic jeep (no fault of the house). In fact we had a massive manual 4wd truck. Amid a bit of an anxiety attack, we almost took a taxi instead. Thank goodness we simply remembered how to drive manual. (It had been about 14 years. The remembering took approximately 30 seconds.) You definitely need a 4wd vehicle to get to this house. It is very remote, up a crazy hill. Thankfully we had a patient woman from Century21 (Shayna? filling in for Gabriela) coaching us around the bumps. She also kindly accompanied us to the fish market and guided us through the supermarket. (You're gonna want to stock up. No stores near the house.) We arrived to a sunset rising above the ocean. Truly spectacular. Then things got creepy. What is special, yet slightly terrifying about this house is that there are no windows -- only screens. It's basically super-duper-luxury camping. The wind bellows, as it passes from one side to the other. Many of the windows don't have blinds. As one looks out at mysterious blackness, listening to peculiar noises, while showering, one hopes there is not a serial killer standing outside watching. Within 20 minutes we had made friends .. and enemies with a number of large insects and spiders. Some flew. Some hissed. None bit. Compared to where we stayed on Ometepe Island, there actually weren't even THAT many. But it's nature. If you are freaked out by this sort of thing, you may struggle. Or not ... it's amazing how after 3 days you find yourself commenting that a massive, slow-moving cockroach is cute. Don't listen to the people who tell you its too far to walk to the ocean -- that you should drive. It's not! It's a pleasant walk down to the beach below, perhaps the nicest in the area, backed by cliffs and free of tourists. I wish we'd had another day just to spend sprawled there, exploring the rock formations. One day we did walk over to Maderas beach, where we took a surf lesson. Lots more activity there, if that's your thing. The real gem of this place is the deck, where we enjoyed BBQing shrimp kebabs and swinging in the hammock under the stars. We were hoping monkeys and sloths would come visit us there, but none arrived. We did meet meet some howlers on our drive out of the house, however. We were not close enough to interact with them, but were still impressed by their massive white balls. (It's a thing. You'll see.) Gabriela, the primary point person for the house, is awesome PS. She'll set up activities; solve problems; call taxis out of town.

  • Casa Suerte is a luxury haven amidst the beautiful Nicaraguan jungle. First of all, the drive up to the house from San Juan del Sur is incredible! Once on the property, you realize that this place is truly unlike any other. The pictures can't quite capture the magic it holds! The architecture is astounding and the woodwork is first-rate. We were four adults spending 5 days and nights and we had ample room to relax and play. We had such a delightful time cooking in the kitchen and eating on the 500 square foot deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Ah, and the sunsets from the infinity pool are unparalleled. Joel and Laura were available via email during our entire stay and we felt VERY taken care of by them. I absolutely recommend this gem for anyone who has a taste for adventure and comfort. I will never forget my time in Casa Suerte and I am deeply grateful to Joel and Laura for providing such a rich and enjoyable experience.

  • Casa Suerte was absolutely beautiful, the home, the property, the pool and the stunning views, it had everything we needed and then some. Loved that is was just a quick drive down to the north beaches, and a short drive into San Juan to pick up what we needed. Our hosts were great and we were well taken care of. Without hesitation, we would recommend this property and rent it again! Be sure to rent a good 4x4 as the roads to the property and San Juan are something to behold. We rented from the hosts' recommendation but had to return the vehicle part trip as it was too old and unreliable for the roads. We ended up renting from Dollar rental in San Juan and that worked out great.

  • Casa Suerte is a great house in the jungle that offers beautiful views of the ocean from the front deck. It's a modern house with a Nicaraguan feel to it and open air concept. The organized meet and greet is really helpful and Gabby will take you around San Juan to get food and drive with you to the house to show you around. My boyfriend and I rented a vintage Toyota jeep from someone recommended by Joel and Laura and had a lot of fun driving it up to the house and to the beach. It's a short drive to the beach - there are essentially three private beaches in walking distance once you drive down. The sunsets are amazing, you can try surfing, or walk over to Playa Maderas to watch surfers while enjoying a local meal. My boyfriend and I had a great time and we would definitely come again, next time with a bigger group.

  • Joel and Laura's place is like a slice of heaven carved in to the jungle. My only disappointment is that I couldn't stay longer! Gabby, our contact while in town, was absolutely amazing at getting us get oriented. Joel and Laura were super-helpful beforehand as well. The beach nearby has to be one of the best I've been to and, that says a lot! I hope to return soon, for a much longer stay.

  • This place is amazing! It's an adorable bungalow tucked away in the luscious Nicaraguan jungle. The reviews are all accurate- this is a must-stay. Joel & Laura are also wonderful and are quick to respond with any questions during your stay.

  • If you think the pictures of the house were great, wait until you see it in real life! Absolutely gorgeous design and a great location. Gabby from Remax was extremely helpful and we had a great time. Please do remember that you are in the middle of the nature and you might encounter annoying creatures as scorpions in the house. I do think is a small price to pay though to stay a few days in this piece of design heaven.

  • Our group of guys spent 7 awesome days at Casa Suerte. The house was the perfect spot that was just far enough away from everything but close enough so that a quick trip into SJDS was no problem. The house has everything you could ask for and the beaches just down the hill were unbelievable.

Gabby over at REMAX was an amazing host; she showed us around town, took us up to the house, and was extremely helpful all week with any questions we had. Can't say enough about how awesome Gabby was throughout our entire stay.

This is the perfect spot for anyone who enjoys countless hours relaxing under a hut on an empty beach!

We are just two travel loving people who fell in love with the country of Nicaragua and ended up buying our dream home! While we try and spend as much time there as possible, occasionally, we do have to work- and we do want to keep discovering this amazing planet. While we are doing this, we are happy to offer homes in our community to others to enjoy and discover this truly amazing country! San Juan del Sur Nicaragua is the place to come for travellers who are looking for surf, sunshine and a little adventure, and we try our best to make our home a little piece of luxury to come and relax in between all that fun! Through renting our own personal home Casa Selva- I fell into assisting my amazing neighbours in Balcones de Majagual with renting their homes- the rest they say is history. You couldn't pick a better spot in Nicaragua- and you couldn't pick better guests than myself and my husband Joel!
