We had a lovely time in the carriage house. Ramana and John gracious and kind hosts who accommodate your every need. Plus, We loved the wine and chocolate left for us in the kitchen! It's the perfect cottage for a quiet and private get-a-way. Plus it's not too far from the cute downtown with plenty to eat, drink and delight you!
Staying at Just Like Heaven was delightful! The Carriage House is spotlessly clean and has every amenity needed for a pleasant and comfortable stay. Our hosts, Ramana and John, could not have been more welcoming. We enjoy cooking and the kitchen is beautifully equipped. The screened-in porch was one of our favorites places to sit and enjoy our coffee and tea. I can't forget the other comforts like the extra plush robes, slippers and the homemade soaps. The grounds are beautiful and help to make The Carriage House a very special place to stay.
We had an amazing visit at Just Like Heaven. The carriage house was exactly as described and what is hard to capture is the energy of the internal space was very subtle and relaxing. As gorgeous as the grounds were, we were in no hurry to leave the cozy house. There was an awesome detox bath salt for me to enjoy in an antique tub afterall. We were greeted in a welcoming way with dark chocolate and yummy wine, encouraged to help ourselves to the vegetables and herbs in the garden (and we did), and invited to sit by the fire on Sunday with Ramana, her husband and her beautiful daughter who visited that afternoon. There is a small, sweet dog on the property but no barking was heard. If you have an opportunity to get cranio sacral therapy or a massage with Ramana; we can highly recommend it. I got cranio sacral to relax from a very hectic month at work. My partner was so surprised at how good I looked after that he decided to book an appointment for himself the next day. I wanted another session that allowed me to have a massage since my neck and shoulders still had knots. I left feeling a new woman and I have to say I saw similar results with my partner; he was more relaxed and also looked like the last 5 years had slipped away.
The site is a short drive from downtown historic Winchester but walking distance to stores along the main route. We discovered Sona (Indian restaurant) nearby; it doesn't look like much from outside but it was a wonderful find for this vegan with lots of food intolerances The owner/Exec Chef was welcoming and made me feel like my issues were an opportunity for him to be creative. As a result, we ate there 2 nights in a row, and it is not our usual approach to dining out to eat same place 2x.
Ramana and John were very welcoming. The carriage house was just like the pictures and close to town with access to restaurants etc. Our stay was short but enjoyable.
Ramana and John are really nice folk and the cottage was perfect for a week relaxing and exploring the surrounding area. I would highly recommend here as a place to relax and rewind amid beautiful gardens and plentiful organic vegetables. Close to main roads to explore and shops etc. thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
What a wonderful, relaxing retreat! This cozy carriage house definitely is just like heaven, surrounded by beautiful gardens and the hum of wildlife (birds chirping, bees buzzing, even rabbits nibbling!). Don't be put off by this location being somewhat residential, it feels like you are in a secluded, private getaway. Thanks Ramana and John for a much needed vacation, and for all of the lovely plants from your garden! We can't wait to come back.
We are so Happy that you found us on airbnb and That you got what you truly needed, a Relaxing Retreat. I just saw 3 baby groundhogs come out from under my Garden Hut! I was wondering way Mama was so big! I have never seen babies in all the 30 yrs of me living on the property. Thanks so much for staying with us Dear Hearts! Ramana & John
My husband and I couldn't have picked a more perfect place to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. When we were within a block or two of the location, we thought we may have made a mistake. I was a little nervous because Tod had really wanted to be in the mountains, but had agreed to the Carriage House when I had been lured to it by all the pictures of the garden on airbnb. But as we drove through the hedges at the entrance, we began to see beautiful informal gardens all around us. Our hosts, Ramana and John greeted us and led us to the Carriage House. Every inch of the house is charming and immaculate - so tastefully decorated and refurbished. Our hosts had provided us with so many lovely touches from lovely fresh flowers, a homemade card, organic fresh fruit and coffee and more. John and Ramana then took us on a tour of all the gardens on the ground, welcoming us to return to them and to sample the many fragrant herbs throughout our stay. They made it very clear that we could call on them for any needs or questions, although they seemed to have covered everything and everything worked so smoothly.
They gave us great tips for visits into historic Winchester which we really enjoyed. There are plenty of wonderful shops and restaurants.
The bed was very comfortable with very cozy linens and the bathroom was lovely and had everything we needed including a shelf to place all our toiletries.
Ramana and John's commitment to the environment was evident in a variety of ways both inside and outside.
We spent the majority of our time on the screened-in porch - a perfect place to relax, enjoy the beautiful zen garden right outside or watch the birds bathing in the bird bath, squirrels scampering around or a humming bird feeding on the roses. When it got dark, we were delighted by an artificial butterfly (fiber optic?) that continually changed colors throughout the night.
Both when we met people in Winchester and when we returned home to DC, we have been telling everyone about our stay at the Just Like Heaven Carriage House and we feel confident we will return to it again. Tod had no regrets about not staying in a mountain cabin!
About the Host, Ramana
-I have been in the healing arts field for over 25 years, and enjoy helping others feel better through massage, CranioSacral therapy and Yoga. It has been a blessing for me to live in the small town of Winchester, Virginia in a 1920's era house on a lot of over 2 acres. The Guest House on the property was originally a carriage house, which my husband and I converted to a tranquil place for guests to stay among beautiful zen gardens and flowers. While the setting is country, one is literally minutes from historic Old Town, restaurants and sight seeing spots.
