Thank you for your interest in our Home, MACON MANOR (built in 1889). We are located on a quiet, tree-lined, neighborly block in the heart of the beautiful, safe, and culturally vibrant Stuyvesant Heights Historic District in Brooklyn, which GQ Magazine has rightfully called "The Coolest City on the Planet." We're about a 5-minute walk from the Utica subway station on the "A" (Express) and "C" (Local) line; the "A" will get you into Downtown Brooklyn in about 10 minutes, and Downtown Manhattan in about 12 minutes.
We are easily accessible via car and several forms of public transportation. Many of Brooklyn’s hottest neighborhoods (Brooklyn Heights [and the Watchtower], Bushwick, DUMBO, Fort Greene [and Barclays Center], Park Slope [and Prospect Park], Williamsburg, etc.) are within 5-15 minutes, and Manhattan is about 12 minutes away via the “A” express train. JFK and LaGuardia are both within 25 minutes, and accessible via public transport. We are just steps away from the best the Neighborhood has to offer (bars, boutiques, cafés, galleries, restaurants – such as Zagat-rated Peaches and Saraghina – and much more).

Interaction with Guests
This is my Home, and I work from a Home Office, so I'm usually here.
If I am Home when you arrive, I would greet you and answer any questions you may have, and get you oriented to the Neighborhood (let you know where the best local restaurants are, where to buy groceries, how to get to the subway station, etc. — for your convenience, all of this information is on our TRUErentals site, the url for which we will give you after you book).
Why do I love this Neighborhood? I’ve lived on both U. S. coasts, visited most of the states, I've traveled to 16 countries in Europe, Africa, The West Indies, and the Americas – and never in my travels have I ever seen a place that offers what Stuyvesant Heights does: a vibrant and tightly knit Community that simultaneously offers the benefit of small town connectedness and access to the resources of the liveliest culture capital on the planet.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: We are about a 5-minute walk from the Utica Station of the “A” (Express) and “C” (Local) subway line; the “A” can get you to Manhattan in about 12 minutes, the JFK / Howard Beach Station in about 20 minutes, Penn Station (Amtrak) in about 25 minutes, and Port Authority Bus Terminal in about 30 minutes. We are about 10 minutes from Downtown Brooklyn, including the new Barclays Center, The Watchtower, and the magnificent Brooklyn Bridge, which offers you the chance to cross over into Manhattan in style, with truly spectacular views of the downtown Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty, as well as New Jersey and Staten, Ellis, and Governor’s Islands. Battery Park (from which you can catch ferries to the aforementioned islands), Ground Zero, Wall Street, and Century 21, one of the world’s largest discount department stores, all await you just a few minutes’ walk from the Manhattan end of the bridge.
We are also around the corner from the B15 and B26 buses, each of which runs with ridiculous frequency.
PARKING: As MACON MANOR is an attached Townhome without garage or driveway, we are unable to provide off-street parking. Street parking, however, is free, safe, and fairly easy to get right out front in the morning and afternoon, though it does become increasingly difficult the later it gets in the evening as our Neighbors return Home from work (late nights may be particularly difficult when there is street sweeping the following day).
There are (2) 90-minute street sweeping periods in front of MACON MANOR per week: Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 am - 10:30 am. During those times, it is legal to double-park on the opposite side of the street. Street sweeping for the opposite side of the street happens on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 am - 10:30 am. Be sure to check the posted signs before leaving your vehicle. Failure to move your vehicle from one side of the street to the other at the exact times may result in being ticketed.
If you are driving to NYC, and you would really rather just park your car off of the street for the duration of your stay, a (website hidden) search for “parking garages 11233,” should show the nearest ones.
Other Things to Note
MACON MANOR has been used as a location for a growing number of productions, including short films, feature films, and TV programs, most notably, the romantic comedy Two Night Stand with Miles Teller and Analeigh Tipton.
Also, artists such as Grammy-winning Macklemore is one of many of our performing artist Guests who've preferred to stay at MACON MANOR, rather than an impersonal Hotel.
SMOKING: As MACON MANOR is a 100% smoke-free environment, we do not allow any smoking of any kind within the house, which includes smoking by an open window. Smoking may be done on the Smoker’s Bench in front of the stoop (the front stairs). Also, butts must be completely extinguished and properly disposed of. Failure to comply will result in an automatic fee of $150 added to your credit card. Noise: As this is a relatively quiet block, we ask that the noise level, both inside and outside the Rental be kept to a minimum, especially after 10 pm / 2200h. Also, please be especially quiet in the entryway and stairs. Candles / Incense: We ask that incense and candles not be used in the property at any time, with the exception of the candles within the fireplace in Apt 1.
HOUSEKEEPING: Renter agrees that housekeeping services (such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, garbage removal, supplying extra towels / sheets, etc.) are available, if requested, at $75 / cleaning, but are not included in the rent. If housekeeping services are not ordered, Renter agrees to keep Rental in a state of reasonable cleanliness, which includes but is not limited to the timely removal of household waste, mopping up of spills, etc.
PESTS: While no property anywhere in the world can guarantee 100% pest-free living, we do believe that we offer a reasonably pest-free environment. We acknowledge, however, that there are some factors that may increase the presence of such pests that are beyond our direct control. For example, we know that there is a direct correlation between the appearance of pests such as ants, roaches, mice, etc., and the cleanliness of each space, particularly the kitchens. Essentially, most pests appear in spaces in which there are foodstuffs made available to them, in the form of crumbs on the floor, dirty dishes in the sink, open food containers on the countertops, etc. Keeping all food items secured tightly in cabinets or the refrigerator, and simple cleaning such as wiping down countertops, washing dishes immediately after use, and sweeping the floors will help to keep pests to a minimum. Also, if windows are opened, keeping the screens down will cut down on mosquitoes.
DAMAGES: While we are certain that the vast majority of our Guests are gentle, considerate human beings, sometimes damages or loss may occur. We choose to deal with these situations as they arise. Renter agrees to properly use and operate the property and all furnishings, including electrical and gas appliances, plumbing fixtures, electronic home entertainment property, and all other items provided during the Rental term. Renter also agrees to return to the original position all furniture during the Term of the Agreement. Reasonable care should be taken to ensure that there is no excess wear and tear on the property, Rental unit, or its furnishings, which includes but is not limited to closing doors gently, avoiding the dragging of heavy objects such as furniture or luggage across the floor, not leaving windows open wide during the rain, etc. Also, while it is not mandatory, we request that the Rental be a shoe-free space, as that cuts down on dirt and wear and tear on the original hardwood floors. Renter also agrees to leave the home so that no extraordinary housekeeping will be required after departure.
LOST KEYS: One (1) set of front door keys and one Apartment key will be provided to Renter in a key safe located on the Property. The specific location and combination to the safe will be provided once Deposit is received. There is a $49 Replacement Fee if any key is lost. A second set can be made available; a $50 cash deposit would be required, which would be returned via PayPal after return of the keys.
MAINTENANCE AND AMENITIES: Clearly, we take great pride in the care and maintenance of this century-old Home, but things happen. The Owner will make every effort to ensure that the property, appliances, and amenities in the house are in operating condition, but we cannot guarantee that everything will be in perfect working order at all times. For example: wireless broadband internet connections or cable television services may go down due to no fault of the Owner; previous Renters may have caused damage that was not brought to our attention; repairs or service to the Rental or its features may be required from outside vendors, who may be outside of our direct control. We ask the Renter to report any problems as soon as they are discovered. The Owner will make every effort to resolve the issue(s) as soon as possible, however, refunds cannot be made for any inconvenience(s) due to mechanical or other failure of appliances or other Rental features or amenities. PLEASE NOTE: The photographs of the Apartments on our own and other websites are only intended to give a general impression of the look and features of each Apartment; actual furniture and other amenities may not be identical to those in the pictures, and may change at any time without notice.
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PEOPLE: All members of the renting party older than infancy are counted as chargeable Guests, and the suggested maximum number of Guests for the Apartments are as follows: Apt 1 = 8; Apt 2 = 8; Apt 3 = 8; Apt 4 = 8. Additional Guests may be accommodated with queen-size Aerobed air mattresses on the floor, but would incur an "Extra Guest" charge of $49 per person per night -- paid in cash upon arrival. We feel that this is a generous accommodation -- particularly when compared to other hotel / motel options -- so over-occupancy is considered a serious violation of this Rental Agreement, and any party falsely representing the number of people in the Home may be subject to immediate eviction without refund. House parties will not be tolerated and may be subject to immediate eviction without refund.
RELEASE OF LIABILITY: The Owner shall not be liable for damage to the Renter’s person or property of any type, for any reason or cause whatsoever. Renter agrees to indemnify, save, and hold harmless the Owner from any loss, injury, liability, damage or costs incurred due to occupancy of the property. Any disputes arising under this agreement shall be mediated subject to the laws of the State of New York in Kings County.
PETS: Animals and / or pets of any kind, belonging to Renters, their Guests or children (if any), shall not be permitted inside the Rental unit at any time unless prior approval from the Owners has been granted in writing. If the Renter misrepresents not having an animal and / or does not disclose to the Owners that an animal / pet will be on the premises or misrepresents the actual number or type of animal(s), the Renter agrees to be evicted without refund of rent, fees, or deposits. Renter is responsible for cleanup after pets, if any, and additional Security Deposits may be required.
INTERNET: Use or availability of the wireless broadband internet connection is not guaranteed, and may be inaccessible for reasons which may or may not be under Owner's direct control. Guest agrees that any use of the internet will comply with all local laws, and shall not engage in any illegal online activity, including but not limited to the use of bit torrent sites to illegally download or upload copyrighted material (such as songs, videos, or movies). We ask you to take this very seriously -- and that you ask all members of your party to take it seriously as well -- as we have actually received notification from our internet service provider that this type of activity has occurred on our internet connection, and could result in us losing our internet service permanently, which would be a serious impediment to running our business.
HOLD OVER: Renter shall deliver possession of residence in good order and repair to the Owner upon termination or expiration of this agreement.
SUBLET: Renter may not sublet all or part of Rental or assign this Rental Agreement without written consent of the Owner.
OWNER MAY ENTER: While it is our full intention to allow all of our guests to have maximum privacy and quiet enjoyment of the space during their stay, it is sometimes necessary for us to enter the Apartment for various reasons, such as maintenance, cleaning, safety concerns, etc. We will try our best to be as unobtrusive as possible.
FIRE AND CASUALTY: If residence becomes uninhabitable by reason of fire, explosion, act of GOD, or by other casualty, the Owner may, at their option, terminate this Rental Agreement or repair damages.
USE: Rental shall be used so as to comply with state, county and municipal laws and ordinances. Renter shall not use Rental or permit it to be used for any disorderly or unlawful purpose or in any manner so as to interfere with other residents quiet enjoyment of their residence. Any misuse described above shall result in termination of this Rental agreement and no refund of any payments will be issued.
INDEMNIFICATION: Renter releases the Owner from liability and agrees to indemnify the Owner against losses incurred by the Owner as a result of: (a) Renter’s failure to fulfill any condition of this agreement; (b) any damage or injury happening in or about Rental or premises to the Renter’s invitees or licensees or such person’s property; (c) Renter’s failure to comply with any requirements imposed by any governmental authority; and (d) any judgment, lien, or other encumbrance filed against Renter as a result of Renter’s action. The Renter shall take all precautions regarding children and others to protect them from harm, injury, or death. All children shall be under constant supervision by the Renter and inform all in the party of these dangers.
ENTIRE AGREEMENT: This agreement and any attached addendum constitute the entire agreement between the parties and no oral statements shall be binding. It is the intention of the parties herein that if any of this Rental agreement is invalid for any reason, such invalidity shall not void the remainder of the Rental Agreement.
FAILURE OF THE OWNER TO ACT: Failure of the Owner to insist upon compliance with the terms of this agreement shall not constitute a waiver of any violation.
PARKING: As MACON MANOR is an attached Townhome without garage or driveway, we are unable to provide off-street parking. Street parking is safe and fairly easy to get right out front at most times, though that does become more difficult the later it gets, and late nights may be particularly difficult when there is street cleaning the following day.
Street cleaning happens in front of MACON MANOR twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 am - 10:30 am. During those times, it is legal to double-park on the opposite side of the street. Street cleaning for the opposite side of the street is Mondays and Thursdays from 9 am - 10:30 am. Failure to move vehicle from one side of the street to the other at the exact times may result in being ticketed.
If you are driving to NYC, and you would rather just park your car off of the street for the duration of your stay, you can do a (website hidden) search for “parking garages 11233,” which should show the nearest ones.
Staying at Macon Manor was a great way to experience NYC. True was an excellent host. He was very accommodating and knowledgeable of the area. The apartment itself was comfortable, clean, and convenient. It was a true home away from home in Brooklyn. I recommend staying at Macon Manor, as well as, plan on staying there for any future trips to NYC. Perfect for any occasion, any group, and any family.
True is the epitome of a host. He was awesome throughout the trip and promptly responded to all emails, texts and calls. He was very welcoming and gave our group a thorough run down of the house. As for the place, all the sheets were clean, kitchen supplies were made available to use and toiletries were even supplied. He gave great recommendations for us out of towners. He made our stay in Brooklyn much more enjoyable.

About the Host, True
My name is TRUE.
I grew up in South Central Los Angeles. I made the pilgrimmage to New York in 1991 because I felt it offered the best chance I had of becoming the person I wanted to be.
I lived in Manhattan for seven years, but it was entirely too noisy, so I began looking for a place in Brooklyn to call HOME.
I searched 3 years for the perfect place – I found and purchased MACON MANOR in 1999, and have loved living here ever since.
There’s no place in the world I’d rather live than Brooklyn, and no place in Brooklyn I’d rather live than Stuyvesant Heights.
