Welcome to beautiful midcoast Maine!

The space
The Barn Loft apartment is a spacious 3-BR apartment, perfect for vacationers, retreats, reunions, or wedding parties. Access to outdoor seating and garden. Close to charming Damariscotta, beaches, historic sites, galleries, shopping, & restaurants. We are less than a mile from downtown Damariscotta, with its charming harbor, shops, awesome theater, and bookstore. Lots of wonderful restaurants around, and we have written a Guest Book that highlights some of our favorite spots.

Please note: we have just adopted a puppy, so there is a dog on the property. She is very small, and never enters the apartment. Our apartment itself is pet-free.

We offer our guests the use of a beach umbrella and two beach chairs, a bathroom with hairblower and washer/dryer, and a fully equipped kitchen. We are now offering coffee, tea, and hot chocolate packets, sugar packets, and powdered creamer for guests.

There is a portable full-length mirror, especially for those prepping for a special occasion! We've created this space with writers and artists in mind, and know you'll find the Barn Loft is a quiet comfortable space to do great work or to simply relax and enjoy our beautiful part of Maine. There is a lovely flower garden out back for strolling. We have a new stone patio, with chairs and a picnic table with umbrella for outdoor dining and relaxing.

The area is lively all year, but especially in the summer. There is yoga on Pemaquid Beach on Tuesdays and Thursday in July and August. The beach is small, white sand, and low surf -- and there are restrooms and a snack bar there. Ample parking.

We are close to many wedding venues, and often host wedding guests, the in-laws, or bridesmaids!

Boothbay is 25 minutes away with the summertime treats of fudge, popcorn, and tee-shirts, and the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is fabulous for adults and children alike. In July and August, the children's garden sponsors "Fairy Fridays", with special events for the kids. Children also enjoy the Boothbay Railway Village and mini golf.

Columbus Day Weekend sees the entire town turned over to Pumpkinfest. Main Street is lined with giant pumpkins decorated by local artists, and they are truly amazing. There's a parade, a pumpkin catapult, and most notable: a regatta in the harbor. Yes, some of the giant pumpkins are hollowed out, outfitted with motors, and brave souls sail them in relay races, to the delight of onlookers. I couldn't make this up if I tried.

Midcoast has many spectacular art galleries -- many in Damariscotta, and Rockland boasts the Farnsworth, with its collections of Wyeths. Bowdoin college and Colby college have significant collections.

There are microbreweries, farmers' markets, and lovely hiking trails. And we are only 45 minutes from the shopping mecca of Freeport and 1.25 hours from Portland -- beloved of foodies and music enthusiasts.

The apartment is right above the Kefauver Studio & Gallery, and Will has given guests art lessons when they asked! He's a skilled instructor and would be happy to discuss what you'd like. Yes, we have a whole cupboard filled with puzzles and games for rainy days, but you could also discover your hidden talent for painting in oils. If you're interested, just contact me.

The Barn Loft apartment is close to so many wonderful things, and if you're visiting family, any time of year, and their house is too small, come see us. We take "spillover" family all the time!

Guest access
Amy has a large flower garden, and welcomes visitors -- please stay on the paths, and if you want some flowers, just ask!

Other things to note
We have air conditioning units in each of the three bedrooms, and 4 tower fans in the apartment. We do NOT have a/c in the Common Areas (the living room and the reading area) or the kitchen. This is Maine, so the number of super-hot days in the summer are very minimal, and we're hoping that having a comfortable place to sleep on those rare nights, and the powerful fans, will make your stay pleasant!

Wifi is free!

The driveway is large, and we always give first-dibs to the best parking spot (closest to your entry door) to guests. We will let you know if an art reception is planned for any time during your stay. These events are not long, usually 2 hours, and end early, by 7 p.m.

Neighborhood highlights

We are in a residential area, just under a mile from town. A quiet area, with several art studios/galleries within walking distance. We request guests keep any noise down in the late evening/early morning, as a courtesy to our neighbors.

Will offers art lessons in oils or acrylics, if you are interested to study with him during your stay. The garden is a lovely spot to set-up your plein-air easel!

My work: Kefauver Studio & Gallery
Lives in Damariscotta, Maine
Will and Amy Kefauver host the Barn Loft Apartment. In addition to the fully furnished and stocked apartment, there is a beautiful patio out back, overlooking the garden. Will is an oil painter, and has a gallery on the first floor of the barn, filled with his beautiful work and the work of guest artists. We love midcoast Maine, with its spectacular scenery, restaurants, shopping, and galleries. We are quiet, cheerful, art and editorial types, and we just know you will love this area as much as we do! We look forward to meeting you.
