The Space

My one bedroom, one bath apartment is in the best location for your DC trip. It's perfect for 2 people, but suitable for 3. It's 1 block from the metro, so a short ride away from everything you want to see! The bedroom has a queen bed and the living room couch has been slept on many times. My favorite part about the apartment is how bright it is! There are north and south facing windows and a skylight over the dining room table. There is wifi, but no TV. The apartment is a 3rd floor walk up - no elevator.

Guest Access

Guests have full access to my apartment, the kitchen, bathroom, washer/dryer, and my balcony!

Interaction with Guests

I will greet you upon check in or will arrange to get you a key. Since you are renting the whole apartment, I won't be there, but I am always a text or phone call away. As you can see from my reviews, my guests find me easy to communicate with.

The Neighborhood

Capitol Hill is amazing. I love the people, green spaces and food! You may fall in love with it too! There is a Harris Teeter grocery store only 2 blocks away and Eastern Market is 7 blocks away (or one metro stop). There are many restaurants all over Capital Hill- at Eastern Market, on Barrack's Row and on H St NE. Eastern Market is a destination for both tourists and locals because it's DC's oldest public market where you can find an indoor market and on weekends a variety of farmer stands, art, jewelry, furniture and more! It's open everyday but Monday.

Food and Drink near my Apartment:
You can take your pick of Mexican at La Lomita, bar food at Trusty's or New York Pizza for carryout. The best places to get a drink nearby are Trusty'(email hidden)) or Wisdom (a neighborhood cocktail bar) - both on Pennsylvania Ave less than a block away.

Some of my favorites only a 10-15 min walk away!
Belga Cafe, Rose's Luxury and Hank's Oyster Bar. For casual dining, try 7th Hill Pizza. A little further you will find yummy (email hidden) and burgers at Good Stuff Eatery.

For more of my food recommendations, look at my guidebook through Airbnb and I have a notebook in my apartment.

Getting around

I am less than one block from the Potomac Ave Metro stop (orange and blue line). There are also many bus lines! In addition, there is an abundance of parking and easy access to both 295 and 395. Check out the metro website for details and maps. During your stay, I have 2 plastic metro cards (called SmarTrip) that you can use. They save you $1 per trip.

Both DCA and BWI airports are easy to manage on public transportation. The blue line takes you straight to DCA and you can take the orange line and transfer to the Marc Penn Line to get to BWI. If you fly into Dulles, you can take the 5A bus or the Washington Flyer shared van to the metro.

*If you will have a car and are staying over on a weekday I need to get you a parking pass for street parking. There is always plenty! All I need is your license plate # and state. It's a free pass and I don't charge you to pick one up for you (like some other hosts do).

Other Things to Note

**If you are driving, you'll need a parking pass from 7 am - 9 pm Monday - Friday. Please send my your license plate number and state ahead of time so I can get it for you. Some listings charge for this, but it is free so I don't.**

  • We had a great time staying at Ashley's. The place looks just as good as the pictures and it was very clean. The bed was super comfortable too. But the best part was the location as it was less than a block away from the subway which made sightseeing really easy. We forgot to have Ashley arrange for a parking pass ahead of time and she was out of town when we were there. But Ashley had left us the contact information to her mom who was kind enough to go down to the police station with us to get the pass. Just the sweetest person! Ashley also checked in with us during our stay to make sure everything was going well. We would gladly stay here again.

  • The host was communicative before I arrived, and gave me all important information. She took the time to find out exactly which bus lines would take me to my work - really appreciated that. The apartment was clean, less than a block from Metro, provided good wifi, and had nice snacks. Best feature: deck off bedroom. Bed comfy. Photos make the place look bigger and nicer than it is. Kitchen cabinet doors are hanging off their hinges. Bathroom quite small and open to water heater/cleaning closet. (If you walk around the corner to Trusty's Pub, get the white chicken chili - yummy!)

  • I can highly recommend staying at Ashley's apartment. I stayed there for 3 nights with my wife and 18 month old toddler and we had a great time. The apartment is clean and everything is as described in the posting. Ashley was also a fantastic host. She responded super fast to all enquiries, went out of her way to accommodate us since we only booked a few days ahead of time, organized a parking permit and had many great recommendations on what to do in DC. Again, I can only highly recommended this place.

  • This was my first time visiting D.C. and using Airbnb. My girlfriend and I had heard about this site through friends and were a little hesitant at first. However, Ashley made the process very easy. After requesting a reservation, Ashley was in contact with us in under an hour. She secured the reservation, a parking permit for our car, and Smartrip passes to help us save money on the Metro. Upon arriving, she was not in town, but was easily available via text message. We just let her know our ETA and she let us know everything was ready for us. Ashley was flexible with us on the check-in/out times, but as there was another guest coming after us, she asked if we could stick to the check-out time. When we left, we checked out with her via text to let her know the place was available.

  • We spent a week at Ashley's Light Filled Apt on Capitol Hill, and couldn't have made a better choice. The neighborhood is so convenient, you are just a short block from the Potomac Ave Metro and one stop or 5 min bus ride to the Eastern Market area. Washington is a walking town and it can wear you out - it's so nice to know you can get off the Metro, grab some food at the Harris Teeter or a Pizza/Calzone and walk about 6 doors down to your Apt. -- I felt safe doing that even late at night. There is plenty of street parking if you have a car or rent a car.

Ashley has a well equipped kitchen and provides great tourist and guide information - the Smart Trip cards are a bonus to using the Metro and easy to refill. This was my first AirBnB experience, but I've used vacation rentals by owners for years - I don't believe I could ever go back to a Hotel Room box after experiencing the freedom of staying in a home or Apt. It was lovely to have a balcony to step outside to check the weather, have morning coffee and feel like you are part of a D.C. neighborhood.

Communication with Ashley was exceptional from beginning to end - I highly recommend her as your host.

  • Ashley was a fantastic host! Not only was she extremely friendly, responsive, and organized, but her listing was 100% accurate. My best friend and I stayed at her apartment for 3 days and it truly felt like we were staying over at another friend's place. We felt right at home after long days walking around the National Mall. Her listing is located in a great neighborhood and very close to the Metro. I would recommend her listing to any of my friends and family wanting to visit the DC area.

  • Ashley's apartment photos were 100% accurate and everything was exactly as I expected – cute, colorful decor, comfortable, bright. Best of all, a whole apartment to enjoy instead of a cramped hotel room. I picked up dinner at Harris Teeter upscale grocery store my last night, only about 3 blocks away, and enjoyed quiet evening with a book. Loved the short 3/4 block walk to Potomac Metro stop - what a piece 'o cake that is to get around anywhere in the city. Being alone on this trip I wasn't comfortable venturing around the neighborhood on my own, not knowing where nice turned less nice, but felt safe walking form Metro to the house late at night. Walk up three flights is not bad, but I packed light knowing I would have to carry everything up/down. I was glad to have discovered this little gem. Thanks, Ashley! -Kim

  • Ashley was a great host! Very easy to communicate with and responded almost immediately which was greatly appreciated as my request to stay was sort of last minute. Her condo is exactly as she describes, full of light and it was very comfortable. The location is great with easy access to the metro and the neighbors are very quiet during the day so it is easy to get work done if you happen to be on a "work" vacation. I highly recommend Ashley's place and definitely would like to stay at her condo again.

If you want to visit the Mall and the Capitol that is the right appartment for you! She left us also some documentation (restaraunts, where to buy food, etc) and two metro cards! We recommand Ashley's place for sure !

About
I'm a native of Washington, DC and love the city, especially Capitol Hill. The people are friendly, it's super convenient, and it is removed from the noise of other parts of the city. I love the outdoors and spending time hiking and backpacking. The last couple summers I've traveled to the Canadian Rockies and Alaska. I also have a fondness towards fantastic espresso, so I may ask you where the best coffee shop is in your city. My favorites in DC are Peregrine, Filter, Baked and Wired and The Coffee Bar. I'm a very independent traveler and very respectful of other people's space. I'm a glass half full person and am always up for new adventures. My favorite quote is: “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” - Howard Thurman (author, philosopher, theologian, educator and civil rights leader)
