About This Listing
A private cozy room, 2 blocks to the train, in a shared apartment with friendly and easy going hosts (and one cat).
Located 2 blocks north of Central Park on Frederick Douglass Blvd, also known as the Gateway to Harlem.
Enjoy a small bedroom with a full size bed/side table/closet, WIFI, shared bathroom, tv in a shared living room, and use of the kitchen/appliances, all located in a renovated condo building.
2 blocks to the 110th Street Cathedral Parkway B and C train stop- also, 2 blocks to Central Park. There are multiple bus lines, and the 2 and 3 express train is a 7 minute walk away.
We love our neighborhood-- 5 and Diamond, The Lido, Bier International, Cafe Amrita, Harlem Tavern, Harlem Food Bar, Jado Sushi, and our absolute favorite Levain Bakery-- you HAVE to get a cookie from Levain. There's an organic market across the street, and 2 regular grocery stores located within walking distance.
While it's a small room, it does comfortably hold 2 people! And our unit is located in the back of the building-- so there is no street noise. Also, no shared walls with the other units, very quiet.
ALSO, we have central air conditioning and heat-- no noisy radiators or AC window units here. We control the temperature, and can adjust to suit your needs.
We have 2 bikes that are available for your use- as well as towels, sheets, hair dryer, hair straightener, and basic kitchen items (sugar, salt, tea, etc).
In summer 2012 we adopted a kitten from the ASPCA-- Artoo is 2 year old now. She is not allowed in the guest room when we don't have guests- but she's a big fan of sneaking in to sit in the window when we do have guests! Also, we use a litter made by Blue Buffalo that has no chemical/litter smell.
Please verify directly with me FIRST before booking.
Thanks so much!
All shared rooms, kitchen, living room, and bathroom- as well as their own private room.
No smoking and no pets please.
To clarify- we are renting only 1 bedroom. Ideal for a 1 or 2 (who are comfortable sharing a full size bed) people.
Please let me know in advance if you have any special requests.
We really love this cozy home!!! (and R2 of course! ;))
My husband and I spent a week with Julia and her friendly sweet charming cat. It's a pity most of nights we came back a little bit late, but we still had some nice conversations.
It is nice stay at this quite neighborhood, super near to central park and metro. Restaurants downstairs are awesome, especially the HFB (shorten to Harlem Food Bar), be sure you must try their Egg Benedict!
Thank you Julia! We hope to stay in NY with your family near future!

Our stay at Julia's was really great! We didn't get the chance to meet Andrew and we saw Julia just two days cause she went back to her family for christmas holidays but she was very friendly with us, she answered all our questions very nicely and made confortable.
Our room was smaller than we expected but it was good enough for the two of us there was enough space to put our stuffs and the bed was good. The appartement is great, we felt like home!
Artoo is a really sweet cat if you love cats as we do you're gonna enjoy your stay, we definitely recommend you to go at Julia's.
Andrew and Julia are a very warm and welcoming couple! They were very helpful and accommodating. They also responded very quickly to my emails and questions about how to find their place and questions about the neighborhood. The location is fantastic because it's near the subway and there are lots of restaurants nearby. I felt very comfortable while staying with them and I really appreciated the quiet, as I was preparing to present at a conference. It was easy to walk around and if you're going to Columbia University, it's only about a mile away. I would highly recommend staying with them!
The place is smaller than it looks in photos, but nothing major. The hosts were very helpful when I need to get directions or advices about transportation. The place was clean, but the pillow had a bad smell.
It was me and the cat for a few days and had no problem with it.
Well located, near to subway station and looks like secure.
Andrew was a super host... Very helpful with ideas ,directions and recommendations etc.,unfortunately we did not get to meet Julia. The apartment was tiny and clean and organized ( very quiet) so much so
That we seemed to sleep to late each day. The area was super accessible to all major transportation .... We really enjoyed Andrews recommendation for THE ABSOLUTE BAGEL SHOP on broadway between 108-107str
We also like The Harlem Food bar on 113(?) (Jessie was great)
One word: Perfect, pareja encantadora y dispuesta a ayudarte en todo lo que necesites!! Tus vecinos perfectos!! Muchas gracias por todo!!
The apartment is well located. It is close to 3 subway stations, giving access to several different lines. In addition, it is very close to central park and the West Side, that we like enough to visit.
They were kind to receive and store our orders.
The room available is small for a couple, considering that there is not enough space to open one suitcase and the space below the bed and the closet are partially available for guests. We had to organize our luggage and room daily to get some space to pass.
There is no street noise, however, there are some doves in the window that make too much noise at night. We couldn't see the weather from the windows (also no good clarity), because there is a building in front of the windows.
When we walked through the house, the floor was noisy, so we were afraid to wake them up when we arrived late or left early.
We can say that the shared bathroom does not bring much privacy, because we have to share the time of use, including during the morning when we need to get to the attractions and they get ready for work. In other times, privacy is also hampered because the bathroom and mirror stay in front of the room.
The bathroom is not very hygienic, the box of the cat is in the bathroom and cleaning utensils are washed in the bathtub. There were times when we'd take a shower and the bathtub, sink and toilet wasn't clean. Towels are not in a proper place to dry (behind the door, for lack of space).
During the 15 day stay the bathroom and the room had not been cleaned, and the towels and sheets were not changed. The room carpet was dirty. We've found on the floor a bill from the previous guest and spare clothes behind the bed.
The cat likes to stay in the guest room because of the pigeons that lay on the window.
We consider the location of the apartment promotes locomotion, but the size of the apartment does not bring privacy and comfort for guests. We think the photos do not match up very well.

Probably our favorite spot to get dinner. Cash only though, so come prepared.
By day this is a cozy spot to study with free wifi and cafe fare. By night it's a dim cafe/bar, always chill music, and great prices for stiff drinks.
Quickly climbing the ranks as our fav dinner spot.
Looking for cheap NYC pizza? This is the spot to get it from. Pizza and garlic knots are our standard order.
This is the grocery store that we predominately use. Not being from NYC this is the closest to a regular grocery store back home (Dominicks/Safeway). Also, they have a HUGE selection of beer.
