My lovely home is set in the rice paddies of Penestanan, our artist's village on the edge of Ubud that has no car access or car sounds (but many sounds of geckos, roosters, frogs and birds) and still just minutes away from the centre of Ubud.
You can do yoga overlooking the rice field in the large bedroom that opens up onto a balcony.
Penestanan now has its very own yoga studio, meditation center, two 5-star restaurants, funky Round Bar, rawfood restaurant, Japanese health food, two cafe's and a bakery so you don't even have to go to Ubud, which is only 15 minutes walk anyway.
It's a perfect location to make day trips to various temples, Batur Volcano, rice terraces, woodcarvers village, museums and galleries.
My friendly housekeeper, Wayan, will come every morning and make you a delicious breakfast. She will also make the bed and clean the house daily. She is a treasure trove of local information and can help arrange a car and driver to take you sightseeing, or recommend car or motorbike rental.
There is a swimming pool at a small quaint hotel down the path that can be used for a small daily charge of about $2.
Had an absolutely wonderful time in Ubud. The cottage is wonderful and airy. Overlooks a fish pond and adjacent padi. In the morning I was gently awoken by the sounds of songbirds progressing to roosters as sunrise progressed. Only a 15 minute walk to the center of Ubud. The housekeeper is wonderful. The breakfasts she made were delicious. I suggest you let her suggest the breakfast menu. I was there during Gulungun holiday. Flower offerings were placed on the entrance way.
All in all a wonderful stay and I will return again.
Thank you very much. A lovely, spacious clean house in a wonderful setting. Wonderful to feel so connected to nature the frogs and birds were a bonus! As was meeting Wayan, her attentiveness, conversation, willingness to do all she could for us and of course her wonderful cooking really made our stay extra special.
The house is very nice, clean and near to restaurants and a supermarket. The housemaid Wanyan was very kindly and helpfully...I learned much about the balinese culture from her.
We are tempted to write terrible things about this place so that no one else will book it and it will always be available whenever we come to Bali, but we just can't do that because it would be a lie.
We LOVED this special, quiet place!!!! It was a PERFECT escape from the intensity of Ubud.
Wayan took amazing care of us and I could easily move into this little house permanently and be happy.

P.S. The frogs are LOUD. That's no joke. A pair of ear plugs solved it for us, but it is worth mentioning.
What a gorgeous place! My husband and I stayed at Veronica's place for 3 weeks and found it truly delightful. A great location away from the busy centre of Ubud, but still lots of great cafes nearby, including the lovely Yellow Flower Organic, and the more traditional, very delicious Made's Warung ( I think this might have been my favourite!). Also just a short walk to the well known Alchemy raw food cafe.
The house was spotlessly clean, well laid out, and very comfy. The fish pond out the front is a nice touch. The bathroom was fresh and nice, but we didn't end up using the bath as it was huge, and I was conscious of wasting the limited water supply on the island. An added bonus was the excellent collection of books in the upstairs bookshelves.
But the highlight of our stay was becoming friends with Wayan, our lovely housekeeper and breakfast cook. At the start of our stay we arranged to give Wayan money for groceries, and she took care of everything from then on. Her breakfasts were AMAZING! We varied our choices between traditional Balinese treats or classic Western fare. Wayan is a beautiful, kind and friendly woman, full of helpful information, who made our stay just so much more enjoyable.
I would definitely recommend staying here.
This is not the Hilton! Nor we're we looking for that. The house IS cozy and the seclusion offered by the pathways is great. Far enough for peace, close enough for easy access although a scooter is necessary unless you like to walk a lot. My partner was restless with the frogs, I found them cathartic. Sunsets from the upstairs balcony are great!
Contact with the owner and house manager were great and finding the place no trouble as we were met and guided along the pathways. Thanks Wayan, thanks Veronica.
We loved our stay, and we were sad to leave. The neighborhood was perfect. Great restaurants (we enjoyed Yellow Flower everyday) beautiful, and peaceful. Wayan was very kind and helpful.
I'd recommend bringing earplugs just in case the frogs get particularly loud. The first night something must have set off the frogs because they were much louder than I could have imagined from the description. We are not unaccustomed to the sounds of roosters, crickets, etc. But the frogs the first night probably would have prevented us from sleeping had we not brought ear plugs. However, the frogs were perfectly reasonable the three other nights we stayed there. The bathtub is obscenely large, and we were unable to fill it with enough warm water. The shower is great under the skylight.
For a low price, you get quite a large clean space with a lovely balcony and daily cleaning. I'd highly recommend staying here.
Veronica's place was the perfect escape from Ubud. About a 20 min walk from the main town and shopping, we automatically felt at ease in the rice fields. Although, the wildlife outside never let us forget just how close we were to nature- the roosters woke us up early every morning, the bullfrogs and crickets sang their songs at night. Would recommend a torch for those nights when you come back after sunset. And bug spray as well!
All in all though, a peaceful cozy place that lives up to its name!
The title of Veronica's house says it all.
Take the stairs from the busy street of Ubud and you're in a completely different world. The location of the house is great, exactly what I wanted.
Also the help of Wayan made my stay memorable. Before I even finished my request she already took care of it.
Staying at this little hidden gem was a great experience. It is in a very beautiful location and the house is so cute and cozy. We stayed for 9 days but wish we could have stayed longer. It really became our home away from home. The way the house is decorated adds a lot of personality. Wayan was such a sweetheart and took great care of us. The wifi was fast which was a treat too. This spot has everything you need and more. We are lucky to have found it and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Ubud.
