My lovely home is set in the rice paddies of Penestanan, our artist's village on the edge of Ubud that has no car access or car sounds (but many sounds of geckos, roosters, frogs and birds) and still just minutes away from the centre of Ubud.
You can practice yoga overlooking the rice field in the large bedroom that opens up onto a balcony.
Penestanan now has its very own yoga studio, meditation center, two 5-star restaurants, funky Round Bar, raw food restaurant, fresh organic juice bar, Japanese health food, two cafe's and a bakery so you don't even have to go to Ubud, which is only 15 minutes walk anyway.
It's a perfect location to make day trips to various temples, Batur Volcano, rice terraces, woodcarvers village, museums and galleries.
My friendly housekeeper will come every morning and make you a delicious breakfast. She will also make the bed and clean the house daily. She is a treasure trove of local information and can help arrange a car and driver to take you sightseeing, and/or car or motorbike rental.
There is a swimming pool at a small quaint hotel down the path that can be used for a small daily charge.
The entire house.
Interaction with Guests
My housekeeper comes every morning to clean the house and prepare breakfast (you will purchase your own food - there is a supermarket within 15 min walk through the rice paddies.)
Penestanan is the most friendly and beautiful neighbourhoods of Ubud. I love all the lovely cafes and restaurants, nearby yoga studios, spas, and art galleries.
Local taxi stand is at the end of the path, but we are within walking distance to Ubud centre.
We can arrange a car rental, motorbike rental or a car and driver for daytrips around Bali. Almost anything of interest is within a couple of hours drive. Most less than that: Famous temples, volcanoes, Bird Park, Elephant Safari, White Water Kayaking, beaches and more.
Other Things to Note
We have a yoga mat, yoga blocks, and hand weights for your use. The hardwood floor upstairs is perfect for yoga practice, with the wonderful view of the greenery of rice paddies.
We have a massage table and will even give you a number for an amazing masseur who can come to the house..
Please don't smoke in the house, but it's ok to smoke on the porch if you like. Also be very careful with candles and incense, especially upstairs, which has hardwood floors and bamboo roofing.
Veronica's house is magical. That's really all I can say! I'm also convinced that the housekeeper Wayan is an angel. Do yourself a favor and book this special house. Because of this house, Wayan, and the beautiful Bali people I am now looking to move to Bali full time!
Veronica's house was lovely, wayan's banana dumplings were too! Ubud is a great place to explore the island..centrally located though one hour away from beaches.. Overall great experience and location
Staying at Veronica's house was unfortunately not a great experience. Despite Veronica being very lovely over email, she apparently was away during the exact days leading up to my arrival in Bali, and therefore didn't help me organize a driver to show me the way or have anyone let me into the house. I ended up arriving in Bali with nowhere to stay and had make my own way into Ubud and find a hotel. She did manage to help remedy the situation later that night and I was able to move into the house the following day (with the help of Wayan - the incredibly lovely housekeeper). However, in the end, I got eaten alive by bugs to the point where I couldn't sleep at night, I felt a bit worrisome on my own there and found mice running around on the main floor. All in all I simply didn't enjoy it or feel comfortable so I moved again to a hotel and lost my money that I paid for. It was simply just not the right fit for me! I'm sure it would be great if you were a couple, didn't mind being stuck there during rainy season and also some serious mosquitos and mice! I've been to Ubud many many times, and this just happened to be an unfortunate experience.
Kate, really sorry for your troubles, as you know we had issues with changing your arrival date because originally you booked for the 1st, but later tried to change it to the 2nd of Jan, and airbnb did not allow the change because the length of stay fell under minimum. This is all automated on airbnb.
So I changed the minimum, but by then we were already into your original date of arrival. Plus I was away for New Year, so I couldn't respond to emails right away, because I was travelling, and so were you.
As you arrived at the house next day, I refunded you one night stay.
We had talked about the safety factor, and I assured you that many women travellers have stayed in the house alone, as I do as well. (you can read several great reviews from women travellers). Not sure why you felt worrisome on your own. There certainly was no reason for these worries.
As the house is situated in the rice fields, we live with all manner of critters that populate the fields. They don't come into the house unless there is food left lying around, so perhaps that's what happened.
As for mosquitos - it's true that they multiply in the rainy season, that's why we have a mosquito net over the bed that can be tucked in snugly, so no mozzies can sneak in. Perhaps it wasn't secured and they got in.
Veronica and her team were fantastic. Airport pick and guide around the house and area were fab. The house is basically right inbetween the amazing Yellow Flower cafe and Alchemy - so you will be utterly spoilt for food choices. I recommend heading into Cantika Spa in the village of Penestan as well for a massage in peaceful countryside bliss. About a 15 mins walk away through the small artists village. Really pretty.
Excellent place to stay in Ubud. Location couldn't be better: ten minute walk to downtown (or inexpensive $2 - $3 US Dollars taxi). Location in the rice field is beautiful; surrounded by nature.
Apartment is very nice. Hot water is a big plus.
Veronica arranged picked from the airport. Cleaning lady made fantastic traditional breakfast every morning.
Great Airbnb experience.
We loved our stay at this gorgeous little villa - the location was perfect and the stairs are not as daunting as they seem! Alchemy was just a short walk away with yummy healthy food and juices to keep you going :) Wayan was great and although we didn't need much we knew she was there for assistance if required. The lovely dog in the compound was a highlight of returning home every day - he was so cute and waggy!! Thanks Veronica and Wayan for a wonderful stay in your lovely little sanctuary! Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The house was roomy for the two of us. It was a very good value. The housekeeper - Wayan was very helpful, cleaned the house and made us a nice breakfast most mornings (she is off on Sundays). She also arranged several trips for us and helped us to recover our delayed bag from the airport. Note there is no air conditioning, but the ceiling fans were adequate for us so this was not a problem. We thought this was a great choice.
I live in Penestanan, Ubud, which is one of the most beautiful villages in Bali.
Over the years I have met and made many international friends. I look forward to meeting you!
