My lovely home is set in the rice paddies of Penestanan, our artist's village on the edge of Ubud that has no car access or car sounds (but many sounds of geckos, roosters, frogs and birds) and still just minutes away from the centre of Ubud.
You can do yoga overlooking the rice field in the large bedroom that opens up onto a balcony.
Penestanan now has its very own yoga studio, meditation center, two 5-star restaurants, funky Round Bar, rawfood restaurant, Japanese health food, two cafe's and a bakery so you don't even have to go to Ubud, which is only 15 minutes walk anyway.
It's a perfect location to make day trips to various temples, Batur Volcano, rice terraces, woodcarvers village, museums and galleries.
My friendly housekeeper, Wayan, will come every morning and make you a delicious breakfast. She will also make the bed and clean the house daily. She is a treasure trove of local information and can help arrange a car and driver to take you sightseeing, or recommend car or motorbike rental.
There is a swimming pool at a small quaint hotel down the path that can be used for a small daily charge of about $2.
This is not the Hilton! Nor we're we looking for that. The house IS cozy and the seclusion offered by the pathways is great. Far enough for peace, close enough for easy access although a scooter is necessary unless you like to walk a lot. My partner was restless with the frogs, I found them cathartic. Sunsets from the upstairs balcony are great!
Contact with the owner and house manager were great and finding the place no trouble as we were met and guided along the pathways. Thanks Wayan, thanks Veronica.
We loved our stay, and we were sad to leave. The neighborhood was perfect. Great restaurants (we enjoyed Yellow Flower everyday) beautiful, and peaceful. Wayan was very kind and helpful.
I'd recommend bringing earplugs just in case the frogs get particularly loud. The first night something must have set off the frogs because they were much louder than I could have imagined from the description. We are not unaccustomed to the sounds of roosters, crickets, etc. But the frogs the first night probably would have prevented us from sleeping had we not brought ear plugs. However, the frogs were perfectly reasonable the three other nights we stayed there. The bathtub is obscenely large, and we were unable to fill it with enough warm water. The shower is great under the skylight.
For a low price, you get quite a large clean space with a lovely balcony and daily cleaning. I'd highly recommend staying here.
Veronica's place was the perfect escape from Ubud. About a 20 min walk from the main town and shopping, we automatically felt at ease in the rice fields. Although, the wildlife outside never let us forget just how close we were to nature- the roosters woke us up early every morning, the bullfrogs and crickets sang their songs at night. Would recommend a torch for those nights when you come back after sunset. And bug spray as well!
All in all though, a peaceful cozy place that lives up to its name!
The title of Veronica's house says it all.
Take the stairs from the busy street of Ubud and you're in a completely different world. The location of the house is great, exactly what I wanted.
Also the help of Wayan made my stay memorable. Before I even finished my request she already took care of it.
Staying at this little hidden gem was a great experience. It is in a very beautiful location and the house is so cute and cozy. We stayed for 9 days but wish we could have stayed longer. It really became our home away from home. The way the house is decorated adds a lot of personality. Wayan was such a sweetheart and took great care of us. The wifi was fast which was a treat too. This spot has everything you need and more. We are lucky to have found it and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Ubud.
Our stay at Veronica's house was amazing. It is in a fantastic location, everything is within walking distance and there are some great restaurants nearby. The house itself has a great vibe, and the housekeeper Wayan did a great job - we felt very well taken care of. We will definitely be returning the next time we visit Bali!
We stayed in Veronica place for 10 days. The house is very nice and cozy. The location is quite and charming, you have all the services that you could have in Ubud plus the calm of the area.Very recommended
I had a delightful stay in Yan Veronica's character filled house. Highlights included the natural, walled garden; relaxing in the huge spa-like bath; reading some of the great books provided in the cool of the evenings; and having an authentic breakfast prepared by Yan in the mornings. A great place from which to explore Panestanan and Ubud!
The moment we arrived at this beautiful house we knew we were going to love spending the month there. Every day was as relaxing and peaceful as the next. We truly fell in love with the house and Penestanan.
It's close enough to walk to Ubud centre, but we preferred to stay in Penestanan. Gorgeous warungs' with delicious, healthy food were literally 2 minutes walk away, but they'll also deliver. We became regular's at Yellow Flower, Lala Lili and Made's warung. Bintang Supermarket is only a 5 minute stroll away.
There's also an amazing library of books upstairs, I spent many hours reading in the hammock.
But the best part about staying there has to be Wayan, the always-cheerful housekeeper. She makes delicious breakfast and is so much fun to chat to. We now consider her to be a good friend.
We honestly loved every second of staying at Veronica's house and feel very blessed to have spent so much time enjoying it.
We had a lovely time in Veronica's cute house overlooking the rice paddies and loved the sounds of the frogs, ducks and roosters. Wayan the housekeeper and her family who lives behind were also very friendly, relaxed and helped to babysit our baby, so we could go for yoga.
The house is simple but very cute and bright. It felt nice to be in the middle of nature, just a short walk away from the Penestanan road.
