Really enjoyed our too-brief time in this lovely place at the end of a remote private drive within a remote gated community WAAAAAY up the side of a remote mountain. The configuration is both interest and practical, with a pleasing flow and plenty of space for many guests. Nice pool, fantastic deck, and we may never stay anywhere with a better view. Two nearby spots that may not be on your itinerary but are worth checking out: 1) What the locals call Playa Linda, a gorgeous and broad beach at the end of the dirt road that heads ocean-ward from 34 near the two radio towers just south of Matapalo -- five minutes from Portalon. 2) Nauyaca Falls, accessed from 243 between Dominical and San Isidro -- plan on half a day for this one.
Its the most beautiful spot you could ever expect of dreamland fantasy! I was looking for some peace and quite and sure enough, I got it! Its about 15 mins up a gravely mountain road where 4 wheel drive is most definitely needed! YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT WITHOUT 4 Wheel drive! Upon the entrance is a very humble village with a small restaurant/bar and a tiny pulperia with small essentials and snacks. 20 mins north is the vibrant beach community of Quepos and Manuel Antonio. 20 mins south is the beautiful beach, Dominical. Everything you could possibly want to do is within minutes of this location. However, prepare your stay with food for cooking, because once you've met your arrival, its a ardous prospect to retrieve anything of commodity. All in all this spot is epicly awsomely undisapointingly on point! I would totally bring my family of 10 here again in a heart beat! Oh and Fernando, the grounds keeper, is the friendliest, most warm welcoming host I have met on this whole trip-besides my mom of course. A++, 5 star rating, 3 thumbs up!!! What more can I say?... Thanks you Gabriella for opening your home to me my family. Hope to do it again in the future!
This is a beautiful property that we brought our family to and I would definitely consider bringing a group or retreat here. The grounds and view are breathtaking, the kitchen is great, and it's so nice to have HOT water. The description note about needing a 4x4 to get there is 100% TRUE, and because there's no wifi I'd definitely recommend making sure you have a phone with data on it-the 3G service in the area worked great. The beds are small compared to US standards, but that's pretty much the case all over Costa Rica. We had a great time!
Beautiful property, spectacular sunsets, gorgeous pool and a spacious, well-equipped house, just as described (except sadly we did not see any monkeys!) As other reviewers have noted, you absolutely need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get up the mountain. It’s a very secluded, remote and relaxing jungle location but also a great base for day trips to Manuel Antonio and Dominical where there are tons of restaurants and activities. Fernando was helpful if needed but never in the way. All in all, a fantastic place.
My husband and I and my three adult daughters stayed at Gabriella's Villa for ten days. The view was incredible and I loved waking early and sitting out on the deck to watch the landscape awaken as the sun moved it's way from the shore up the mountain. We took great advantage of the pool and yoga deck. My daughters stayed on the top floor so it was like their own apartment. There was ample space for all of us. We saw toucans and many other birds and were visited by a frog or two looking in the sliding doors every night. The drive up to the villa is quite steep and there are areas of loose rock and good sized ruts. We had the 4 wheel drive filled to capacity with the five of us and all our luggage and found the vehicle was underpowered. We had to stop on the first incline and unload 2 of the girls and half the luggage. Still with just the three of us and some luggage we had three more spots where two attempts were required. My husband then went back for the girls. After that first attempt and with 5people but no luggage we did make it up for the rest of the trip. We knew there was no internet in the villa but were told there would be Internet in Portalon . The people in Portalon said the closest place was Matapalo beach. Although my husband and I were happy to not have Internet in the villa it did mean a search for a place with Internet for the girls frequently so they could keep in touch with their loved ones. Although we did figure out where things were and how things worked eventually it would have been helpful for us if the property manager arrived in our first day there to show us the ropes and help us find things. Fernando was helpful but my Spanish was so poor that many gestures were required. Overall we had a lovely time at the villa and it worked well for our family.
This Villa retreat was built for meditation/yoga style retreats and has been used by those needing to rejuvenate with the beauty of the mountains, ocean and stunning natural scenery. A wonderful writers retreat, too!
