The Space

I live in a town house, 5 minutes from the beautiful Cairns Botanic Gardens and and its Red and Blue Arrow walking tracks for the fitness buffs amongst you. My townhouse is 4 kms from City Centre with a bus stop right outside the door. The Esplanade is only a couple of kms away. My place is simple but I love it. It's got a little court yard where I'm trying to grow some herbs and lettuce and stuff. I'm a bit of a 'Greenie' and into recycling and have a worm farm in my court yard.
The guest room has 2 single beds that could also be put together into a double bed. Edge Hill is a great trendy little community with lots of coffee shops, restaurants, post office, news agency and Friendly Grocer all in walking distance.
I am also only 5-10 minutes away from the airport and am happy to pick you up if it fits in with my work hours. Oh and free wifi of course and lots of info and things to do.

  • I really landed on my feet staying with Ursula. The flat is lovely and the host even lovelier. Ursula goes that extra step to make you feel welcome, and her generously shared, healthy food was simply great. The bed was comfy and the room clean and tidy. A quiet part of town away from tourist traps, near the superb botanical gardens. Highly recommended!

  • It was great to stay with Ursula, she is a great host, easy going, interesting and we shared quite a few laughs and she is also very respectfull if you want privacy.
The place is absolutely clean and I enjoyed the quiet and peacefulness.
Her place is near the Botanical Gardens, which are nice to go for walks.
    i can really recommend it.

  • Great place to stay! Ursula was very welcoming. Very easy access to local shops, cafes and restaurants as well as public transport. Botanic Garden is only minutes away by foot. Cairns is great and Ursula's place ideal.

  • I chose this home partially because of the price and because it looked, "different". I do not think the pictures can reflect the warmth of the host and the comfort of the home. Ursula was more than helpful and was very organised, giving very useful information about the area other than the tourist hot spots. On following one of her suggestions I had one of the most memorable evenings of my visit to Australia, for free. When I had a few spare hours, she invited me to join her on a little trip which was unexpected and very welcomed. We also had some good conversations and her fridge was open to me and I have to say I made use of her generosity.
The location appears to be a little out of the main tourist area but has a good atmosphere of it's own and shops and food outlets are convenient. There is a bus stop close by although I walked back and forth to the centre several times.
In all this was a good choice, if anything, the pictures do not show this place or host at their best.

  • How many stars can I give to this wonderful experience?
Place and hostess share the same philosophy: be yourself and respect others.
Ursula is an energetic life lover whose generosity is equalled only by her kindness.
My week in Cairns went way beyond my expectations and I shall come back as soon as possible!
Thank you (and your place) for the peace you inspired me.
    And for the muesli... :-)

  • Ursula is a wonderful host! She's very easy-going, respectful and laid-back. She's been very happy to provide me with information on Cairns and its surroundings. Despite the fact she's had many guests and a stressful/demanding job Ursula has always been happy to go the extra mile in order to make me feel welcomed and comfortable. I can highly recommend Ursula as a host!

The room on the first floor of her semi-detached house is spacious and comes with an air-con as well as a very comfy bed. The neighbourhood - Edge Hill - is about a 50 - 60 minutes walk to the centre of Cairns, however, you can easily catch a bus or take a bike. Edge Hill itself is worth a visit too! It's got various little Cafés and restaurants and the beautiful Botanic Garden is only a 5 - 10 minutes walk from Ursula's place.

Thank you very much, Ursula! I'll be back one day :-)

  • Ursula is a lovely lady, she goes out of her way to make you feel welcome in her house. Even to the point of driving me around Cairns.

  • I only had a chance to stay with Ursula for one evening, as I booked a dive trip for three days after.. She is extremely friendly and was helpful in getting me around Cairns for the day. Her place is located a few minutes away from the central part of town with a bus stop right out front that takes you there. I would definitely stay at Ursula's place again when returning to Cairns

  • When I was at Ursula’s place, I felt at home:) It was very easy to get around and tours do pick-ups locally. Ursula is an intelligent, caring and passionate person. I also see her through the art works she has on display and her mosaics. Even after a busy day’s work, she always chatted with me to see how my day went and gave me the advice when needed. We went to the local market and did the walk in the botanical gardens, watched tennis and enjoyed our fruits in the mornings...Thank you Ursula, I shall be back again:)

Social Worker
I am a Social Worker at the local hospital. I am of German origin and have traveled widely, Europe and Asia mainly. Now I'm more into exploring Australia. I am into bush walking and am a member of the local bush walking club. I love long walks, did the Camino Compostella through Spain in 2006 for instance (800kms). Done the Great Ocean Road walk last November. I also love sitting in coffee shops reading the papers on Saturday morning. I love people but am a bit of a quiet person these days, my raging days are well and truly over. Love reading and movies, oh and ice cream! As a guest I am quiet and very self contained. As a host, I'd love you to feel at home, particularly in the kitchen!
