Casa de la Madre is a guest house with a difference. We offer various treatments using the medicinal plants from the Amazon jungle to heal body mind and spirit. These plants are administered by traditional Shipibo (native) healers in their traditional manner..
Our home is set in front of the lake in Yarinacocha Peru, South America. Behind the house is beautiful forest. For 6 months of the year, from December to June, we are accessed solely by boat and it is quiet and secluded. From July to November the dirt road opens to traffic and while it is quiet during the week, on Sunday families come to swim in the lake in front of the house.
In the nearby villages you can find unique arts and crafts from the Amazon, visit traditional Shipibo villages and art galleries. We can also arrange jungle trips, boating on the lake, bush walking etc.
Included is al meals, treatments and airport pickup and drop off.
If you're looking for an authentic rustic jungle experience, look no further. The casa is located about 25 min outside of Pucallpa in a small village that lines the Yarinacocha lagoon. The air is alive with the sounds of the jungle - birds, insects, and the playful calls of the 3 rescued monkeys that live on the property. In the dry season, there are also the sounds of mototaxis driving by and a nearby restaurant/disco playing popular local music. When the rains come, the area quiets down and you will likely take a long wooden boat across the wide peaceful lake to access the house from the main town of Yarina. Basic accommodations are available in a few rooms upstairs in the tall wooden house, and there's a large outdoor verandah to sit and gaze at the lake, play with the monkey, cat, and dog, or just read in a hammock.
Cielo is knowledgable about local healing traditions and plant medicine and is a wonderful resource for those looking to work with Amazonian traditional healing methods. I ate almost all of my meals at the house - Cielo can provide meals and cooked delicious fresh chicken, fish, and veggies daily. She's a wealth of local knowledge and can point out local artisans markets, arrange jungle excursions, trips upriver to remote villages, and boat trips on the lake to spot and swim with pink river dolphins.
She's very easy to work with and will personalize your stay depending on what you're looking for. Bring a book (or few!), journal, insect repellent, and an open mind to the jungle and prepare to be immersed in a different world.
