I stayed at Simens place my first month in Hong Kong and had a very pleasant experience. It's located in a nice vibrant area of Hong Kong with public transportation, laundry service and restaurants literally around the corner. Everything from check in to check out went smoothly and I can definitely recommend it to travellers planning a longer stay in Hong Kong.
Simens is a great host! He is accommodating and highly responsive. He is always willing to help with any queries. The unit at Tai Ping Shan is in a highly convenient and prime location. It is 5 minutes walk from Sheung Wan MTR and have many nice cafes right outside the area.
Also, Simens allowed me to move my belongings one day earlier into my new apartment which is nice and understanding of him. I would highly recommend his service and units to other travelers to Hong Kong who are looking for a functional and cosy, but yet affordable stay.
it was a great pleasure staying in this apartment. it was clean, the rooms were decent size, nice size living room, beds were comfortable, very close to the MTR. had a great time during our stay and checking in and out was a breeze. great for large groups. only con, saw a cockroach but those are everywhere in hk!
I stayed in this flat for one month.
The wifi works fine and the room had anything that I need. Overall I would recommend it to anyone, although some things have to be said concerning what you should expect:
I'll have to admit that I maybe was a bit naive when looking at the pictures and booking the room - I specifically searched for a room that has a table and and a chair so I can put up my laptop and work there. The room did have the table and chair, however it has absolutely ZERO daylight coming in through the windows - the windows just go out a small inner courtyard, and the flat is in the 2nd out of 12 floors. So after trying to sit in the dark for most of the day I figured this wouldn't work, and I started doing part of my work outside, so I could catch a little daylight.
The second downside to this room is the bathroom: There's no shower tub, instead the whole bathroom is just one big plumbing unit with the drainage somewhere behind the toilet. Unfortunately, the drainage isn't quite as fast, and after a shower I ended up with the bathroom filled up with water above the door threshold to the apartment, flooding a bit of my stuff and having to dry the room.
Also, the water heating is done with a small electrical boiling unit, that really can't store that much hot water, so showering above 5 mins would be difficult unless you enjoy very very cold showers. (Then again, the room will flood beyond that point, so maybe it's not as bad)
That being said, I consider all these problems being 'minor issues' and I really didn't bother that much as it might sound right now. I had a great time in Hong Kong. I was told by other locals on more than one occasion, that my room was a quite 'typical' residence for someone living in Hong Kong, and all the issues I had are not uncommon.
So considering this is one of the cheapest flats that you can get as a tourist, I think this is pretty good value.
Also, there are the plus sides: It's very central (10 min by foot to Sheung Wan MTR or Macau ferry terminal, 1 min by foot to bus stops with numerous buses and the famous tram going down Des Voeux Rd, which will take you to Central Station / IFC or Central Piers in ~5-10 min (depends on traffic). At the bus stop is a 7-11 and really next door is an ATM. Next bigger supermarket is the Park'n'shop at Queen's Road West at about 5 minutes away, just go directly up to Queen's Road West, turn left into Queen's Road West, and walk straight for 2 minutes until you see the Park'n'shop.
It is always a better way to get introduction from neighborhood for the city. What Sascha wrote about is true, but for electricity water heater, it can actually be used for 10 mins if you turned it on and let the water be heated for at least 10 mins. And for the bathroom, there is a curtain separated the toilet the bathing area.
Very nice apartment in Central Queens Road 232. Sadly not the best view out of the window and no possibly to open it. Located in a very nice area of Sheung Wan near Central and just 2 min to the next MTR station. no kitchen, but a fridge, microwave and Ricecooker. Also a very nice and thorough Maid will come every week. Highly recommend it!!
Great great location! Behind the apartment is Times Square, and just across the street in front is one of the best roasted pork/duck/chicken you'll ever find. Just 15 mins taxi ride to Ocean park, and a couple of minutes walk to the Causeway bay station. Although the apartment was smaller than we expected, the space was okay. Comfortable to fit 8-12 people. The host was also really accommodating. You can tell her if you plan to check in/out earlier or later than the normal time. And if there are any problems, it's really easy to contact them. To sum it all up in one word, this place is CONVENIENT, and I'd definitely consider living here again.
The apartment itself is very convenient and I enjoyed my time in it but unfortunately the transparency of Simons company and their proffesionalism were seriously lacking. Located a short walk to the midlevels escalators above Soho, small, like all hong kong apartments, but with a rooftop with a great view and easy access to anywhere you want to go on the island by bus or a walk down the escalator to the MTR. On Friday and Saturday nights sometimes you can get some noisy people walking from the bars and the room is difficult to ventilate causing mold to grow easily. Other then that I was content with the room and location.
However I did not get to deal with Simons as my host because I was changed to Albert as my host at his company smiling international instead before even meeting Simons. After Albert did not show up on time or at all many times we agreed he would help me fix something I asked for my host to be changed, perhaps back to Simons. This never happened and was never fully acknowledged by the company despite asking many times. It took much urging to get some basic changes in the bathroom, which was flooding due to a poor design error. The air conditioner took ages to get fixed and I had to ask many times despite multiple people at his company I talked to knowing from the very beginning it was not working. They did not keep my check out time despite one of them assuring me twice they would send someone over with my deposit and I had to go in later to their office to collect it. I talked with Simons about renewing but he seemed to only answer half my questions and not give me all the information I asked for the first few times I asked for it so I decided it wasn't worth it.
I recommend if you wish to deal with this company, which was more complicated then I was willing to put up with, you make sure beforehand with them that you have the right to change your host and do not give them a deposit since airbnb provides security for the company in that regard. The (email hidden). do not seem to be willing to do things for you unless you make it clear that if it is not done it will effect their review.
First, I would like to apologize to David for the inconvenience caused. Albert, as the housekeeper, should help our guests for all problem on site. However, David was asking for a Heater which was not included in the amenities list. Albert and I had to David to get one himself. He did not agree.
The structure of our Company is simple. As a host with more than 30 properties in Hong Kong. I will have several housekeepers helping me to serve my guests. If the guests asked for much more than anything we did not included in the description or amenities list, we had to tell the guests to pay for it and we would like to help them to buy it.
This place is best enough for our group. It's very clean, comfortable
Its fit perfectly for 6 of us with the acceptable price (I cant compare it with the hotel but it 's much better than guesthouse around this area)
The location is the best - only a few step to Mongkok subway st. , it's located in front of Lady Market and the whole Mongkok night Market
Very convenient location with MTR stations only 5 mins walk away, plenty of local eateries around.
- One of the very few 3 bedrooms unit around at good location
- Clear instructions and tips to get around
- Basic stuff is there
- Only one person can shower with hot water at any given point despite the apartment has two bathrooms, suspect the water tank is too small
- Fridge has some overdue food that was not cleared by the owner
Simen's place at Tai Ping Shan is highly convenient and cosy. It is a great place and location for travelers and guest on short term stay in Hong Kong (like me). The cleaning lady does a great job too.
