This 100 years old turn of the century charming Italian Villa is a real gem of a place, surrounded by redwoods and wild life. Located at walking distance from our quaint downtown Mill Valley. This house was divided into a duplex. We are at the top floor so there are 3 flights of stairs to climb. There is a lovely outdoor patio where you can enjoy your morning drink or a dinner Al Fresco. The main bedroom is very spacious and is surrounded by windows that let the morning light in with a beautiful view of the redwoods and sky, very private. You can cozy up in front of the fire very romantic. A fully equipped Pilates/Yoga Studio is also available for you to use during your stay. The second bedroom is a sun room with a queen size bed and is very bright and sunny. The kitchen is small and does not have modern appliances such as a dishwasher or Micro Wave oven but we have cooked thanksgiving meals for up to 20 people there. The bathroom is also rather small but cheery. Trail heads at your doorsteps with many beautiful places to hike around. You can easily walk to downtown through the beautiful canyon and get a bite to eat in the many great restaurants Mill Valley offers. if you like to listen to live music the recently renovated Sweetwater is the place to go. There is a really cool movie theater that plays some independent movies and the Throckmorton Theater for play and music too. Great coffee shops, book store on the plaza as well as our favorite local grocery store Mill Valley Market, you can have it all. 15 minutes away from San Francisco, 10 from Muir Beach and Muir woods, this area will tickle your heart.
The house is equipped with a 55" flat screen TV and a Blue ray DVD player. Wifi streaming for movies, Internet access. Perfect for nature lovers with a laid back life style that still like to stay connected.

Two friends and I stayed at Valerie's lovely home for a girls' getaway weekend. It couldn't have been more perfect. Her home is beautifully decorated and sits among the tree tops in a fabulous location. There is lovely natural light and a wonderfully peaceful energy there. We enjoyed many hours just hanging out at the house and it was just perfect for us. Mojo, the house cat, was also a nice addition to the soul nurturing time we spend there. He's very special. We all would highly recommend staying at Valerie's home.
My husband and I had the most delightful and relaxing weekend at Valerie's beautiful home. The bedroom is nested among the trees, making it feel like a sanctuary. The apartment decor gives it a very easygoing and tranquil vibe. The resident cat, Mojo, is just about the most loving animal you've ever met and really added to our experience. The area itself if also very gorgeous - lots of natural beauty to explore and tasty places to grab a bite to eat that are a walk or short drive away. Highly recommended!
Valerie was easy to make arrangements with and even gave us a call just after we arrived, and after we left to make sure everything was great.
Highly recommended - a perfect escape!
Valerie's treetop Mill Valley perch is exactly as described! It is sunny and cozy and perfect for spending a few days exploring Marin.
Mojo is a beautiful cat and easy to take care of. We had 1 training yoga teacher in our group and we got to enjoy the studio as well!
I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone looking for a peaceful escape from the city.
A quick two night visit to this eclectic apartment at the top of a large residence nestled amidst the redwoods on the hills of Mill Valley. Daunting set of steps (I counted over 50) that argues for very light packing. Lovely views, great light, attractive decor, even a large fitness room.
Both me and my husband are strong believers of
“A picture is worth a thousand words”
So we chose this beautiful home
based on the wonderful pictures we got
And we chose wisely.
Mill Valley , with its typical rain and fog in winter, can be a little dark, but not at Valerie’s home.
Because it’s high location, the sun makes it’s way
and shines over this particular property.
Surrounded by magnificent redwoods, one feels like living high up on a tree and still without sacrificing the commodities of a 21st century.
The immense quiet is only interrupted
by the beautiful rain dripping from the leaves.
We were greeted with a welcome note, fresh flowers in every room of the house a beautiful real xmas tree and Mojo: a beautiful Russian blue cat that became our 9 year old daughter Indigo best friend .
We had no problem cuddling into this place right away.
Every day we had a family/ friend commitment to attend,
and everyday we couldn’t wait to come back “home” to “our”
soooo comfortable beds.
Tired of leaving this heavenly spot we decided one day to invite family over and host a “crepe” party.
why crepes.?..probably we were inspired by the beauty and sophistication of the zen / ethnic/ french decor.
We finally met the host and we understood why this place is so special.
Valerie is a lovely host, pleasant, gracious, friendly and attentive, respectful of our privacy, and a great communicator.
We highly recommend her and this magical space of hers to anyone visiting Mill Valley or the SF area
Valerie's home is beautiful. Its a very cozy peaceful area in Mill Valley. Very close to a nice little town with lots of shops and great places to eat. Its also very close to muir beach and the coastal highway 1. Very romantic and private.
Valerie's home is beautiful, peaceful, above the trees and a lovely space, full of wonderful light. It is very thoughtfully decorated and warm. Valerie is a great host, flexible and a great communicator. Highly recommended.
Very "zen", but quite old, uncomfortable and not very clean.
My wife, our 2 grown up daughters and myself wanted to spend a few days exploring the region and wanted to use the house as a base to sleep, have breakfast and eat dinners from time to time.
We had found the pictures and reviews appealing, but we made a mistake choosing this place, based on what we needed.
Let's start with the positives:
-The house is in a VERY QUIET area in the middle of the trees with greenery and with animals around (squirrels, birds,... we even saw some deer).
-The decor is zen-like with plants and nicely chosen "vintage" furniture.
-The house is bright and spacious.
-It has a pilates studio (we didn't use it, but it might appeal to some).
Now, the things we didn't like:
- the distribution of the house is quite strange, resulting in big spaces in places we didn't use (pilates and other small rooms/cupboards) and small in places we used (bathroom and kitchen).
- the kitchen is old, cramped, not clean and uncomfortable. It lacks such things as a microwave oven and a coffee maker (and a dishwasher... but this is more of a "nice to have").
- as described in the profile, there are 2 cats "included" in the rental. We do have cats at home and we didn't mind taking good care of them, but these cats are used to being everywhere, so expect cats (and cat hair) really everywhere. Also, the cats' feeding place is the pantry (quite unusual place for us!!).
In summary, apart from not being a good fit for what we wanted (our mistake), sometimes we had the impression that the house was rented so that someone would take care of the cats and plants (paying for the privilege).
Certainly not good value for us, but I understand that it might appeal to others (cat LOVERS, families with small kids, people who practice Pilates, etc.).
This is a very special and soulful place that is a 100 years old and it takes a certain kind of person to understand and appreciate it's funkiness beauty and magic. We take really good care of this place and love to share the peaceful surroundings and comfort it offers with others.
This is a first for us to get a negative review so after I read what Emilio had to say I went and looked at Emilio's wish list on Airbnb just to see the type of house's he likes. It gave me a better understanding of why this was not a good fit for him and his family.
I appreciate your input and your straightforwardness, I am sincerely sorry this wasn't the place for you.
Valerie's home is in a gorgeous neighborhood and the house feels like
a castle tucked away in the woods. Her home is exceptionally calming and comfortable. My kids enjoyed visiting with the cats and relaxing on the super cozy beds. The space exudes peacefulness and the appreciation of beauty and love. I highly recommend a stay.
We were a short drive from Muir Woods and had a great dinner and
Tony's Vegetarian Pizza down the street.
Great place, great house... We love that it was surronded by so many beatiful trees and was so green around us. We had deers and squirrels visiting us every morning. It felt truly amazing to be so close to the nature. It was very close to Mill Valley "downtown" which offers great restaurant and breakfast places, we were also able to cook at the house, which we did most of the evenings. House is just few miles from Muir Woods and not to far from San Francisco.
