Description

The space

Perfect for a family or small group! Come stay in your own artist-decorated, peaceful, bright home near hiking and biking trails, the beach, museums, parks and really any kind of restaurant you want. The buses that take you anywhere in the city are close by and easy to use. We love our city and if you want advice, we are excited to help you plan your stay. While there are lots of great restaurants right around the corner from our house, our kitchen is large and well equipped for a nice dinner. In addition to what you see in the photos, we also now have a large deck, grill, and easy access to our grassy backyard, which you're welcome to use.

For information on who we are as hosts, check out our other listing, "Quiet, Private Studio near nature."*

Absolutely NO SMOKING on the premises, and due to allergies, we CAN NOT HOST SMOKERS, even if you smoke outside the home.

We look forward to sharing our home and this fabulous city with you. We love helping to plan non-touristy outdoorsy days for our guests. Please contact us with any questions you have about our place or your visit here.

Guest access

3 bedrooms, fully-equipped kitchen, large living and sitting room, TV room on 3rd floor, gas grill, porch, backyard, and off-street parking for one small car.

*Notes about our home:
BEDROOMS: This is a 3 bedroom home - bedrooms are all on the second floor. The master bedroom is a two-room suite, with a king-sized (chemical free "tempurpedic" style) bed. The second bedroom has 1 queen-sized bed, and the third bedroom is set up as a kids room with two toddler beds. All linens included. *Allergy-proof mattress/bedding. We also have a 2-person air mattress you can set up in the kids room or on the third floor.

KITCHEN: Large, sunny, well-stocked kitchen with gas range and mid-to high-end appliances and cooking utensils.
FAMILY/DINING: The large, open room on the main floor has an area for dining and another for relaxing.
BATHROOMS: One full bathroom (with shower) on the first floor, and a split bathroom (with tub/shower) on the 2nd floor.
TV/BONUS: The top floor is the cozy place we watch TV (flat screen, DVD, lots of movies).
DECK/OUTDOOR SPACE: A large deck you can access off the kitchen has a outdoor table for 6 and access to the grassy, landscaped backyard.
PARKING: The garage will fit one small to medium car, and another small to medium car fits in the driveway behind the garage. Our Prius fits well in both spaces.

*Note: We also rent out an apartment off the basement. The apartment has a separate entrance, and there is no access to the house living space. If you would also like to rent the basement apartment, we can work something out.

Interaction with guests

We will arrange to be gone when you are here but will be available by phone before and during your stay. We are happy to help plan your time here - we love this city and love to share what we know.

The neighborhood

What makes our place special:
*Privacy and quiet: Our house is in a neighborhood. It is convenient to restaurants, shops, public transportation, but is a quiet area.

*Tastefully decorated with original art

*Private, large (for the city) backyard

*Close proximity to nature, restaurants (see below), and playgrounds.

*Laundry and Wireless Internet, Flat screen TV, DVD

*Lots and lots of books for adults and kids.

*Complementary bottle of California wine or 6-pack of local beer on arrival, coffee and tea.

*~30 minutes to downtown on the bus

Restaurants:
We are located in a mecca for a large variety of restaurants. Our favorites, which are all within a 10 minute walk, include the reasonably-priced Bai Son (Thai), Fiorella (Italian), Ton Kiang (Chinese/Dim Sum), Blufin Sushi, (unique Japanese/Sushi), La Vie Vietnamese Restaurant (Vietnamese-French) , John Cambell's Irish Bakery, (to-go Irish bakery), Gaspare's (family Italian joint), Tommy's (featuring the largest tequila selection on the West coast), Pizetta 211 (locally-sourced flatbread), Angelina's Cafe (breakfast/sandwiches), Gordo's Taqueria, (tacos and burritos), PPQ Dungeness Island (Vietnamese/CRAB!), Bill's Hamburger (best burger and malts in SF), Royal Ground Coffee (coffee shop). It would really be hard to get bored of the food options around here, because there are so many. We'd love to give advice after hearing what you're in the mood for.

Nighttime Entertainment:
2 blocks away is the 4-star Movie Theater, which shows indie and blockbuster films
Our favorite bars include Tommy's (where, if you ask, Julio will give you a introductory lesson on types and origins of tequila), Plough and Stars (an Irish Pub where you will find us on Sunday nights when people show up to play Irish music (seisiún)). Blackwell's Wines (tastings on Saturday from 2-6).

Nature and Parks
We live very close to some of San Francisco's best natural spots. Our favorites, which can be reached on foot, bike, or by bus/car are:

Land's End: beautiful hiking trail up on the cliff, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay. Lindsay hikes here most days, and loves how the weather (fog/clear) changes the view). (URL HIDDEN)

Baker Beach: View of the bay, Golden Gate Bridge, and big waves. Ask Brian about his recent Elephant Seal rescue here! (URL HIDDEN)

Ocean Beach: This long beach is a favorite for surfers (the 2011 Ripcurl Pro Search Surfing Event occurred in November). We like to bring coffee in the morning or burritos at sunset to walk and watch the waves and birds. There is also a hilarious (if you like dogs) event on Saturday mornings - small dog owners gather for a walk on the beach, and seeing hundreds of small dogs running around brings a smile to our faces every time. (URL HIDDEN)

Golden Gate Park: From our place you can walk to the more natural part of the park (Stow Lake), open fields for picnics, and a short bus ride/bike/drive brings you to the museums. (URL HIDDEN)

Kid Parks: A few blocks away, appropriate for toddlers and older kids, is the Rochambeau Park. My niece has been pretty happy there!

Museums: The Legion of Honor, Cal Academy of Sciences and the DeYoung Museum and close by and easy to get to.

Hiking: We love how close good hiking is to our place. Good local hikes include the new Coastal Trail (starts at Baker Beach), Land's End, Golden Gate Park. We drive over the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin for a day hike most weekends and have maps and trail guides to share.

Please see the "Guidebook" on our other listing (the basement apartment in the same location) for some of our favorite local places.

Getting around

Public Transportation:
We can help you figure out where you want to go, but the 38 Geary Bus, which you pick up at the end of our block, is very convenient. It runs very regularly, early until late, and you can transfer ANYWHERE from this line - to all neighborhoods, museums, tourist attractions, etc. The bus brings you downtown, or out to Ocean beach.

We take public transportation from the San Francisco Airport, and Super Shuttle runs also.

The bus system is good here. Buses run anywhere in the city, and it takes about 30 minutes to get downtown and to tourist areas. If you're interested in transportation to a specific place, let us know and we can help figure it out.

Other things to note

Our photos don't yet include our large back deck with an outdoor table for 6, gas grill, and landscaped back yard.

Lindsay And Brian

Lindsay And Brian

San Francisco, California, United States · Joined in April 2012

We are two teachers who love all that San Francisco has to offer. Brian is also a working artist and we are both avid hikers, swimmers (yes, you can swim in San Francisco), and campers, and love sharing our love for the beautiful outdoor spaces in San Francisco. While Brian is an excellent cook and loves shopping at the Asian markets around our home, we also love to eat out, and are happy to be living in a place with such good restaurants within a 1-10 minute walk! Lindsay grew up in New Hampshire and is excited to share one of her favorite places in the world with others (and help fund our summer trips there!)
