The Space

This is a beautifully furnished one bedroom suite, with a nicely equipped kitchenette, full refrigerator, washing machine, tiled shower, and a lovely, romantic sunken bedroom with queen size bed. The Suite is approximately 800 square feet, with additional covered space on the lanai.
The Suite is one-half of the Ohana (second home) on my property, located approximately 10 miles south of Hilo. It is very private from both the main home and the adjacent portion of the ohana, and surrounded by tropical greenery. Yet I am always close by for advice on travel ideas, restaurants, shopping, etc.
The location is very easy to get to, and is perfect for traveling and sightseeing the entire Big Island, from viewing the active lava flow near Kalapana, great snorkeling and swimming at Kapoho and the Ahalanui Hot ponds, to Volcano National Park, Hilo and the Hamakua coast.
The Suite would make a lovely honeymoon destination, as well as a romantic weekend getaway. The neighborhood is rural, and the property is located at the end of a small street, so it is always quiet and peaceful.
Great restaurants abound in the small village of Pahoa, in Hilo Town, and in Volcano Village. Farmers' markets are nearby, as well as basic food and sundry shopping in the small town of Kea'au and in the Orchidland neighborhood. The public bus stop is a short walk to Highway 130, and buses run regularly to Hilo, Kona, and other island destinations.

  • We stayed three nights at this beautiful place and really enjoyed it! It is close to Hilo and therefore a perfect place to stay in Big Island for visiting the volcano national park, Mauna Kea or the several parks on the east side of the island. The suite is comfortable, cosy and had everything we needed. Darya was a wonderful host! I can definitely recommend this place!

  • Perfect description of the place and a gracious host. The place was huge and had everything one could wish for. Darya came over to show us around instantly after our arrival and provided us with delicious fresh fruit and eggs from her own chickens.
Would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Thanks a lot and best regards

  • We had a wonderful honeymoon staying at Darya's place. The suite is squeaky clean and comfortable. We have to agree with all the positive reviews people have in here. One of the best Airbnb experiences we have so far.
    Thanks Darya for your hospitality.

  • Daryas place is completely off the beaten path but absolutely perfect. We stayed here to explore the Volcanic National Park and Mauna Kea and it was ideally located for both. It was so peaceful, all we heard throughout our stay were sounds from the jungle! The cottage was really spacious and well equipped. Darya was a lovely host and very accommodating, the fresh fruit and eggs on arrival were a delight!

  • This spacious cottage was super cosy! Darya was super friendly and communicated well. Wifi was great. It does get dark from the car port to the door of the cottage which wasn't an issue for us as out cars lights stayed on for 30 seconds after it was locked. We didn't utilize the washing machine but it's certainly handy. Good location to volcanoes national park(30 mins..). Great price. We enjoyed our stay. Also, close to town and a supermarket if required.

  • Overall positive. Very large space for the money. Well-equiped kitchen with laundry, and clean. Darya's very nice, generous with her time, as per many reviews.

  • We had a really nice time. Darya is a very nice host. It's close to all the east side highlights (Volcanoe at 30min, Mauna Kea at 1h, Hilo at 15min, Hamakua coast at 45min-1h). We had breakfast every morning on our private lanai among the flowers and birds chirping. Very relaxing!

  • This place was nestled in the jungle off of the beaten path. It was super comfortable and very spacious for two with laundry available as well. We stayed in Kona first for 3 nights then stayed here in the Hilo side for 3 nights to explore both sides. I'm glad we did, there is a lot to see and a lot of driving. At night the sounds of the jungle were amazing! Our bedroom faced the forest and we had a harmonious song from the wildlife every morning and night. It was a great experience. I did try to go walking in the adjacent streets one morning and it wasn't very safe. People had dogs and some not leashed, I got very nervous. So if you want a place that is walking distance to stuff, this isn't,it is a drive a way to town of Keaau. But it was fun to be nestled away in the jungle. We enjoyed our stay here very much, and the price was super affordable.

  • This was a great house on a great property in a great neighborhood. The host was very responsive and helpful with everything we needed. The space is very large and private. The bathroom and bedding were not quite as clean as we prefer, but the price was unbeatable and there were cleaning supplies provided. There were sufficient facilities for cooking, laundry, etc. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you Darya!

  • If you intend to visit Big Island's Eastside (Volcano National Park and Hilo) then this is the place for you to establish your headquarters! Darya is a wonderful host and the space we rented had all three Cs: comfort, convenience and cleanliness.

I grew up in California, and came to the Big Island of Hawaii 9 years ago. I love plants and food, children and animals, art and photography. I would love to travel to Europe again, but first I hope to travel to Asia: China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and to eat my way through every delicious region! But until then, meeting people from all parts of the world as they travel to our beautiful, welcoming island is just perfect!
