Our cozy and serene cabin is tucked into the shoreline of Long Pond on Mount Desert Island off the coast of Maine, hugged by cedar, pine, maple, spruce and fir trees on all sides.

The space
RALOCASTLE, as our cabin is called, was built by our grandparents and has been lovingly maintained by our family for four generations.

A true, uninsulated summer cabin, our 700 square foot Ralocastle is available from early summer through early fall. This is camp with all of the comforts of home. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other with two twins. The futon couch in the living room can be turned into a comfortable full-size bed for two. All bed, bath and kitchen linens are provided (including 10 bed pillows).
There is a furnace and a fireplace (firewood provided) to stay cozy on cool days. For your convenience, there is a fully equipped kitchen, on site access to a washer and dryer, and a bathroom with shower. A screened-in porch serves as both "mud room" and a nice spot for outdoor dining on buggy days. There are plenty of chairs lining the open air porch facing the lake view, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee and a good book. Enjoy our eclectic library (something for everyone - including a selection of children's books) and our collection of games and jigsaw puzzles.

Our dock is just steps from the cabin. Use it for swimming (ladder access provided into water), boating, and greeting the waterfowl who come to visit. Three watercraft - a canoe, an aluminum rowboat and a two-person kayak - are provided for our guests to enjoy on the pond which is the largest body of fresh water on the island.

The spectacular Acadia National Park is located on Mount Desert Island and has something for everyone - beautiful drives, hiking and biking for all abilities, miles of rocky shoreline, and breathtaking views. All points of entry to this national treasure are within a 30 minute drive of the cabin. That said, we enjoy being on "the quiet side" of the island!

Guest access
A comprehensive camp manual is emailed in pdf form to each confirmed guest, and a hard copy of this manual is in the cabin. The manual includes everything you need to know about our cabin and what it has to offer you as well as lots of information on ways to enjoy the island and Acadia. There are also a number of books and trail maps at the cabin for you to use to plan your outings.

Other things to note
Again, we love our airbnb guests!

The cabin is located at the southern tip of Northern Neck, a peninsula extending approximately a mile into Long Pond. A private road provides access to the camps and homes on Northern Neck (a favorite form of exercise is walking this beautiful lane). Our cabin is well off the road down an extended drive. The southern and western shoreline of Long Pond are part of Acadia National Park. We have wonderful neighbors. The cabin to the west is in full view of us, but these folks are not local so are around only intermittently. They are very quiet and neighborly. The folks to the east are local and spend their summer on the pond - lovely people. They are further away and we cannot see their house from our cabin. Our open porch and dock/swimming cove are completely private (except from the view of whomever is paddling by!).

I'm Lesli and I'm joined by my siblings - Steve, Carl, Lo and Charles - and our many children and grandchildren in preserving the legacy our grandparents built and left to us. We look forward to sharing Ralocastle with you and your dear ones. I am a retired labor and delivery nurse and a current faith community nurse who loves writing when I have a good idea, knitting and crocheting - especially prayer shawls and yarn bombs, gardening when it isn't too much work, rambling in the woods and by the seaside, traveling once I get to my destination and reading all the time. A Little Piece of Heaven is my second favorite travel destination - the first being any location where one or more grandchildren await me!
