Jester Nest offers a double room with shared home facilities in the main house(prices as quoted below.)
There is also the fully self contained Little House with double accommodation at $110 per night/ $630 per week.
Located just a 5 minutes drive from sea, bush and township, this former farmhouse is the perfect country retreat.
Situated in a rural setting, the house has been completely refurbished and features a tranquil garden with a stone walking labyrinth constructed from local Karamea granite.
The room in the main house has a comfortable double bed and views across the paddocks. The bathroom is shared and comes with a bath and shower. There is also another separate toilet.
The 'little house' is separate and looks out over the garden and labyrinth. Fully self contained with kitchen and bathroom it has a double bedroom and pull out couch in lounge. Ideal for a couple or family with younger children.
You can walk to the beach or take a bush walk. We are also close to the Oparara caves and start of Heaphy track, along with the township where you can find restaurants, cafes and the local pub.
Please note that there is no public transport to Karamea but bikes are available. There is a bus between Westport and Karamea except Sundays.
This is a special restful place which I am developing into a retreat.
Come and relax on the deck or get out and enjoy the surrounding area.
I work from home so am often around and may at times have clients to my office but the living area is separate at other end of house.
Please note the house is next to a working dairy farm and I have 3 cats in case either is a problem for you.
House guests will have access to all facilities and laundry. There is a small quiet lounge available separate from the main living area.
Interaction with Guests
I enjoy meeting and getting to know guests when not working and gardening. A shared evening meal is available at extra cost and help is always appreciated with clearing up (no dishwasher!)
Karamea is a very special place. I love the peace and tranquillity. Once I'm home I never want to leave!
Bus to and from Westport except Sunday can pick up /drop off at gate on request.
Other Things to Note
I aim to provide affordable home-from-home accommodation. The prices quoted are for 1 person so the cost is $90 for 2 people.
Children are an additional $15.
Please contact me to discuss your individual needs.
No smoking anywhere indoors or on the main deck please.
Preferably no smoking on the property.
Kay was so nice to let us the Little House althought she wasnt around. The Little House is nice and cute as is stands alone. It gives one a lot privacy. We didnt smell the dairies so much and wetent to much bothered from sandflies. People just need to be aware of the fact that the house is a bit off of everything. One need a car to get into the village and there is no mobile connection.
It is a magic place, Karamea. And a wonderful farmhouse with a beautiful garden. Great places to be outside including a hammock. But be aware, there are heaps of sandly's! And - a cattle farm is right around this little island of paradise. Very close. Very, very close. Kay was a wonderful host. Very talkative, very energetic. I decided to go for the extra cottage she got because I really felt like privacy and silence around me and I could get it for just a little upgrade price. Thank you so much for that! There was only one problem there - either it's very hot inside or you got sandfly's if you're opening the windows. That was a problem for me, because it was really Westcoast High Summer Time and the cottage is heating up very quickly.
The place itself is perfect if you want to come or go from any of the great trails. Either Heaphy or the Oparara Basin or Fenian Track. Driving time to town - 5 minutes.. Driving time to the best sunsets of the world - 5 minutes. And great swimming holes all around!!!
I stayed with Kay for two nights and had a great experience and found her very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. Kay was able to provide great suggestions for things to do in the immediate area as well as for further south along the West Coast.
The place is in a great location, beautiful and secluded, yet is only a 5 minute drive from the township. It's also quite close to the Heaphy Track and the Oparara Arch.
Kay was nice enough to upgrade my room and I basically had a small unit to myself. It significantly exceeded my expectations and I was genuinely blown away with what Kay provided.
I would absolutely recommend staying with Kay if you're in Karamea.
Lovely semi independent cottage that allowed me good privacy with the option to still engage with my host. A great place to stay at Karamea away from the village centre and lots of backpackers. Good access to the end of the Heaphy track where I picked up my sons - ideal really.
Love gardening, outdooors and music. Live in Karamea, West Coast S Island NZ and work in psychotherapy. Love meeting new people and nurturing friendships.
The profile photo hat has a story..I have 3 (email hidden)o extremely fluffy who need grooming.. had been making felted balls. then decided to go wild and make a hat.. so you see possibly the only cat hat in the world.. and no cat's were harmed in the manufacture!
