The Space

'Sanctuary' describes this green-built, two-story log home perfectly. Peaceful, quiet, nestled on a wooded mountainside in Vermont, it's the perfect place to get away from the noise of everyday life. A fully furnished screened back porch, complete with soft patio lights, padded porch swing, and small dining table completes the picture. A glassfront woodstove (fall/winter) adds charm and warmth. All flooring random-width pine finished with natural oils. Bedrooms are spacious and include sitting areas. And yes, I have Wifi! Unique shopping and art galleries await you in quintessential Woodstock, only 5 miles away. Silver Lake State park with beachfront, kayak and paddleboat rentals, and playground area is 5 miles away. After a day at the beach, there's the famous Barnard General Store across the lake for deli/ice cream, or Tozier's drive-up, or fine dining at the Barnard Inn and Max's Tavern. Live theater/concerts within 30 minutes distance at Northern Stage, The Hop Center, and Lebanon Opera House. Love skiing? Killington ski resort is 25 minutes away; Suicide Six is 6 minutes away. And my 24.5 acres has trails for snowshoe and cross country ski lovers. Snowmobiles and ATV's also welcome. Questions? Please ask!

The Neighborhood

The privacy of my 24.5 acres is golden. I have two neighbors, but the abundance of woods between their houses and mine keeps the feel of total privacy. A logging path going up the mountain behind the house is sweet for nature walks, snowshoeing, wild raspberry and blackberry picking in July and August.

Getting around

Access to Vermont Rte 12 is 2000 feet from the house down a winding, woodland driveway.

  • Heidi was an excellent host. We appreciated the communication and availability, and very much enjoyed our stay at her place.

  • The home was even more beautiful than expected. Such a peaceful getaway. Heidi was incredibly responsive before and during our stay. She had detailed and well-thought out house rules that left nothing to question. Given the opportunity, I would definitely stay at her home again!

  • Heidi's home was exactly as pictured - beautiful! The beds were extremely comfortable, and we appreciated arriving late on Thursday night to a nice warm fire and a house with the lights on. Each bedroom has a nice sitting area. While our group of 7 were a little tight on bathrooms (there are 2), the design of the bathrooms is very convenient. For example, the upstairs bathroom has a separate door to the toilet/shower area, so people can still use the double sinks to wash up. The downstairs bathroom has a separate door to the toilet, so someone can shower or use the sink when another person is using the toilet. I think if Heidi finishes the basement, this house would be even more spacious.

As it was, the house was perfect for our group and needs. We drove to Killington Resort for skiing (about a 30 minute drive) and Barnard is only 4 miles away (we went to the Barnard General Store for supplies). We most enjoyed Heidi's book of "after-dinner games". We played "Squeak Piggy Squeak" and much laughter was shared by all.

This house will definitely be tops on the list for our next ski trip. Thanks again, Heidi!

  • This house was very beautiful. I came with a group of friends, one of which was a chef and it was perfect because the house has a very big kitchen and a beautiful fire-place heated dinning room. When we read the instructions to get to the house we were very scared we were going to get lost but we got there very easily.

  • Amazing place and experience. We were 7 guests and a baby and really really enjoyed our 4 days stay over there. It was so magic for all of us to relax around the fireplace after a long day of ski on the Killington slopes. We had also a lot of fun sledding around the house. Heidi was so nice and accommodating, you can feel she really loves her place and want her guests to love it too. It worked very well for all of us, Thank you Heidi;)

  • From the very start of booking Heidi's place she has been very kind and responsive. We saw the photos before we head up there but when we arrived, we couldn't be more happier. The place was warm, smell of home. Heidi was kind enough to start the fire for us and pretty much welcomed us into a vacation lodge out of a fairy tale book. We enjoyed every minute staying in this lodge. In fact the hardest thing in the entire vacation was leaving the place. Thank you Heidi for memories that we can never forget. We will definitely come back.

  • Staying with family and friends the 8 of us were very comfortable in this house. You get lost in a world of enchantment while staying here. Location of the cabin is great. Just make sure you have a 4x4 car or truck because with snow you can't go up. It's right outside the town of Woodstock where there are som many picturesque places to visit; covered bridges, a scenic town, man made waterfalls and farms. The cabin is located just 30 scenic minutes from Killington mountain. I debated sliing at the closer suicide six mountain but made the right choice.

Sledding here was a blast. Although the gravel in the driveway ended up braking the plastic sleds we brought there is a path in back of the cabin that was not only amazing for sledding but I actually ended up skiing down it once.

The cabin does need some fixes. Oven wasn't working but stove top was (good thing we cooked at home and brought the food), the doors on the bathrooms don't lock, the dining room chairs were falling apart and the pillows...just bring your own. If Heidi is reading this I would offer one other suggestion. It would be better if the pull out couch/bed was in the living room. I don't know if being close to the wood burning stove is a fire hazard but to have the option to sleep in the living room or to share a room upstairs is important. My brother actually brought the mattress pad down and did in fact sleep on the floor. 8 people is a perfect but she could sleep 10 with the addition of a pull out couch in the living room. If you were to ask my Father what he would fix about the house, he would say he went through withdrawal not having TV. I agree, even if TV takes away from the allure of staying in a log cabin and being thrown back in time, it is a necessity for some people. I will say that when and if there would be a problem Heidi was on the phone with is to fix it.

My final thoughts; we have decided that if possible we will defiantly be booking another trip here. Possibly on an annual basis. It's magical and scenic and it doesn't feel like your staying at a hotel or someone else's place. You really get a feel for being away from it all. This is a very special place and I would consider booking here before booking one of the other obvious homes that are built solely for the purpose of renting (although it seems this was built exclusively for that, there are hints that Heidi does stay here herself from time to time). If you have second thought, believe me when I say my wife has many high hopes and standards in regards to where we stay and she loved it! Thank you Heidi for an amazing adventure!!! See you next year!

  • I didnt actually stay at Heidis due to an unforseen circumstance, but a friend of mine did instead and had an amazing time. Heidi was very understanding about the whole situation and made the transition easy and doable. Thank you!

  • Heidi's place is amazing. We were seven friends, getting together for a bit of a reunion, and we loved playing games in front of the fire, cooking great food in the professional level kitchen, and romping around in the woods.

  • This cabin was perfect. The bedrooms were ample with comfortable beds, soft sheets and bedding and cozy places to read in each! Our children had a wonderful time and my 2 year old is still asking to "go bacation house!" The porch was the perfect setting for meals, relaxing, and family time. Also, it was very close to Woodstock, Billings farm and other fun activities. We absolutely loved everything about it and will return as long as Heidi keeps it open for guests!

Heidi was outstanding. She returned every email within minutes and seemed genuinely concerned for our comfort and happiness while staying at her home. Well done, Heidi, and thank you!!
