Our beautiful home is a remodeled Victorian originally built in 1918. The house has tons of charm and you are welcome to use the large, cozy living room with couches and window seats, bathroom with claw foot tub and shower stall, and oversize eat-in kitchen as our guests. We have a cozy eclectic style.
We price our room very low because we love our house but we are just a couple living our lives, so all common areas can not be maintained at immaculate hotel standards. We do have a cat who stays indoors, so if you are allergic to cats this will not be a good fit for you. He has a lot of love to give.
The bedroom available is fully furnished with a full-size bed, linens, and towels. There is a closet and dresser for your things, a gliding armchair for reading or resting, and a small writing desk. This room can accommodate two people as long as they are okay sharing the bed!
We own a car which is available for rental via GetAround (search the getaround website for EastPortlandHatchBack). If you are looking to use a car on a limited basis and not rent one for your whole stay, this may be a good option for you, we suggest you sign up with Getaround ahead of time.
Our neighborhood is quiet and residential with exceptionally easy access to more bustling areas and downtown by MAX, bike, bus, or car. Within walking distance (1 mile radius) are some great Asian restaurants, Fred Meyer grocery and other shops like Ross and Kohls. Rocky Butte is in the neighborhood which offers a 360 degree view of the Portland area including 5 mountains on a clear day! There are many guided hikes in the Columbia Gorge that can be accessed by carpool at the Gateway Transit Center one stop from our house. Schedule and descriptions are in the room.
We have an extensive garden done in a permaculture-inspired way. During the summer it looks a bit like a jungle. There are many varieties of fresh berries and foods throughout the growing season. We both love the earth and are conscious of our impact on the environment. Our toilets have a dual flush system to conserve water, and we keep the heat fairly low in the cold months.
Serra is a community video producer/teacher and photographer, and Chad works at an organization that promotes and supports the arts through grant funding. Other interests include music (Chad plays guitar and piano), making things (we build a lot of things around the house as well as making arts and craft items), bicycling (Chad commutes to work by bike every day!), gardening (already mentioned), and sharing stories / learning new and interesting things.
Our schedules vary, but we typically are in and out Fri-Sun. Often we are gone during normal business hours Mon-Thurs, and someone is home between 7-8AM and 7-10PM. Sometimes one of us is home during the day these days as well. We love to make breakfast, but generally only have time to do so on weekends (Friday-Sunday). If you're here on a weekend, ask us about breakfast if you are interested in sharing with us so we can plan accordingly. There is cereal and soy milk available every day along with a selection of teas for your enjoyment.
Please note: Our personal schedule is currently uncertain more than about a month out. Thus, we are not yet accepting reservations that are more that that far out. We'd hate to accept a reservation now only to have to cancel it as it draws near. Thanks for understanding!

Cute house, friendly hosts, and a great cat - would strongly recommend. Stops for the train and bus are nearby, which made getting around a breeze.
Everything was easy about staying at Chad & Serra's place.
The place itself was comfortable and well-decorated... it was exactly what I needed.
Fine place to stay. The cat had something to say around 6:30am every morning in the hallway outside the two bedrooms. Hosts are welcoming and nice. The home was as expected from their ad.
Loved staying here. We were a couple blocks to the Max. We had a cute room and the bed was perfect for my 20 year old daughter and myself. Wifi was strong and we had a great stay. The cost was very reasonable and we liked it so much that when my daughter returned to Portland we went back to Chad and Sierra. Thank you!!
Stayed at Chad & Serras for three nights. Very nice people. Lovely room. Easy to get by car all around. Really nice experience. Thank you!
This was our second stay. Thank you again! We appreciated the accomodations.
I was there for an exam so needed some quiet time to cram. It was a nice stay: clean and quiet. The light rail and bus stations are very close by. I would recommend others to come.
I had a great time in Portland and the house was the perfect base for exploring the city. Very convenient for the MAX and a short bus ride from Alberta's good eating!
The room was homely, spacious and very cosy and the bed was amazingly comfy!
We enjoyed our stay and found Chad and Serra very accommodating & lovely. The house is in a good location for transport with light rail & buses running regularly & early for the airport! We got a little confused with the rules for the guest bathroom, but it didn't seem to affect us in the end.
Staying with Chad and Serra in Portland was a very pleasant experience. Their place is really near the maxi rail so it made getting downtown quite easy. They have a really lovely and welcoming home. I slept like a log there! The room had everything I needed and I particularly enjoyed the breakfast and selection of teas they provided in the morning. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here.
