About this listing
Room with queen bed in bright, airy, solar-powered plantation house. House has two bathrooms (one which is exclusively for you), washer, dryer, large kitchen with lots of counter space, large fridge, oven/stove, microwave, toaster oven, rice cooker and all necessary pots/pans and flatware. Long dining table with benches, great for get-togethers and board games.
If you stay here you will be renting a room in a shared house. Alec and I stay in the other room. You are welcome to make use of the common areas while you are here.
We live in a safe, working-class neighbourhood. We keep our house clean but the neighbourhood houses (including ours) are not new-looking or posh.
Enjoy breakfast on the balcony, with a view of the ocean. Take a two-minute stroll to a very quiet sun-bathing beach or a five minute walk to Paia town and a nice swimming beach. Hookipa, one of the world's best windsurfing beaches is a five minute drive away. There are many surf spots nearby. Paia has an awesome organic grocery store, several excellent, well-priced restaurants and lots of cute boutique shops. This is the perfect place for a surfing/windsurfing holiday or an authentic Maui experience.
Sharing the house with a couple (entrepreneur and musician). We are friendly people and are happy to give information and advice on Maui. Sometimes we are free to hang out but most of the time we are busy working, running errands and doing our thing. Elaine plays several shows a week and spends a lot of quiet solo time at the house writing and learning songs and booking tours. Even though Maui is a popular vacation spot we are not on vacation ourselves, so we prefer guests that are self-entertaining.
Maui has next to no public transit. We highly recommend renting a car.
Nous parlons francais. Elaine habla espanol.

I stayed about 10 days with Elaine and Alec. They are wonderful hosts, very welcoming, worldly wise, and great fun to talk with. Their place is very well kept, and in a great location. I had a great time staying with them and would definitely recommend them to others!
Our stay with Elaine was perfect - comfy room, great location in walking distance to Paia and great cafés and restaurants. Definitely recommend anyone staying with Elaine, especially if you want to drive down to Hana.
A great location, close to the "city centre" and the beach.
Ok room and we had our own bathroom. Big kitchen with a lot of space. Wi-Fi and parking are free.
Perfect place to stay a few days! Nice location, close to the village of Paia and to the beaches. I loved the fact that there is an individual bathroom for guests, as well as shampoo, soap, earplugs and even aloe vera aftersun lotion! The only negative aspect was the hotness in the room, but the fan helped and it got cooler at night. The hosts Elaine and Alec were nice and friendly and invited me to share a great diner they cooked! This was my first Airbnb experience and I really liked it!
This place is super homey, simply because you are immersed in a local's living situation. We really enjoyed our stay here and found Elaine and her partner very friendly. It felt like we were room mates with them for the two days we stayed there, which was great but can be odd for some people who like their privacy and independence. With that said, they were hardly home when we were so it felt like we had the place to ourselves.
The bedroom is tiny but manageable. The house beside it (which is beside the bedroom window) can be noisy but the hosts generously provide ear plugs (which we didn't use) and have a powerful fan to block out outside noise and keep you cool at night. We also had our own bathroom which was nice.
Ants seem to be common tenants in this home which appeared to be frequent in most Hawaii homes. This place is about a 2 minute drive to town (and the town is fantastic - small but loads of personality, restaurants, coffee and clothing shops) and probably about a 10 minute walk.
Great place to spend a night or two if you are stopping through the town but 2 nights in Paia was good for us since it is a small town after all.
Elaine and Alec were very welcoming and fantastic hosts. I came to Maui to participate in a cycling race and do as much riding as I could in just three days, so I only wish I could have hung out more and gotten to know them better. I wanted to get in one last ride around West Maui that wouldn't finish until around noontime and they were very forgiving and flexible with my checkout, and I was even able to grab a quick shower after I was done.
For any cyclists reading, their place in Paia is very conveniently located just 5 miles from the airport. Paia is an awesome little town, and the Maui Cyclery is nearby for whatever you need. You can easily do either the West or East Maui loop rides; the road up to Haleakala begins only a couple blocks away.
Highly recommended spot for cyclists to base themselves on Maui.
