About this listing

The space

Our apartment is a typical Amsterdam 1910s 'pijpenla' (pipe drawer): a rectangular space with a balcony at each end. The spacious, light apartment is on the second floor and counts ca. 60m2. It has a separate kitchen with all amenities, a bathroom with shower and toilet and a separate bedroom behind characteristic vintage glass doors.

Please note: we have a cat, so beware if you are allergic. Also, we kindly ask our guests to feed her and give her the occasional pat.

Our house is an ideal base from which to explore Amsterdam. The city centre is a 10 minute bike ride away.

We have Wifi, of course. A fold-out toddlers' bed sleeps anyone up to about four!

Guest access

Guests have access to the entire flat except for a little spare room.

Interaction with guests

We meet our guests upon arrival to give them a house tour.

Other things to note

Please note: our dear cat lives in our house and we kindly ask our guests to feed her and give he the occasional pat. She is quite a character but easy-going.

We stay at Marjanne's house for 3 nights. Her house was very cosy and accessible to public transit. Comfortable bed and a lovely space. I really enjoyed my time there!

Marjanne's apartment is a lovely place in a quiet and easily accessible neighbourhood close to the center. Everything was just as it was written in the description.

The experience was great. The flat is really good, as described. Quite convenient to go to the centre of the city, close to the train, tram and bus station. It's also close to a supermarket which is good if you're planning on cooking or if you just need to buy some stuff. The neighbourhood is also good, really quiet at night. Marjanne made us feel really comfortable and gave us some helpful information about the place and the city. The overall experience was really good.

Marjanne is very kind and welcomming. I had a very nice stay at her apartment. The apartment is modern, clean, with all the comfort you'll need. It is not really in the center of amsterdam but with a bike it's really easy to go downtown : Less than 15min.

I have conflicting feelings towards my stay in this airbnb. I was not aware I would be having to babysit a cat all weekend as it says nothing of the sort on the airbnb page. I think it’s unacceptable for someone to spring their pet on you when you arrive as airbnb is not a pet care service. We had to feed it and leave the balcony door open so it could use its litter box which made the apartment really cold. The cat kept escaping from the apartment every time we opened the door and would bite us and hiss at us when we tried to bring it back inside. Then one day I got a call from Liesbeth (Marjanne’s friend) who was beyond angry that we let the cat out and she accused us of having extra people in the apartment since she saw an extra backpack and that we put her blanket on the couch. I tried to explain that my friend simply left her stuff there during the day while we explored and that she couldn’t check into her hostel until 4pm but she didn’t believe me. It really affected my day in Amsterdam as I had to deal with all of this and feel bad instead of enjoying the city. I don’t quite understand why Liesbeth couldn’t take care of the cat herself as she lives in the apartment above the one we stayed in. I don’t know if we were treated this way because we are young students, but I have never had a negative experience with airbnb until now and don’t appreciate it when people try to take advantage of me. She also left a note on the table asking for 40 extra euros and saying I had no self-respect if I didn’t leave it for an extra person (which we didn’t even have!) Even if there was an extra person in the apartment, she could have dealed with the situation in a much more rational matter. I just looked at their airbnb page as well and it says extra guests = no charge and some of the reviews mention having three people staying there in the past. It also bothered me that she went into the apartment and snooped around while we weren’t there. On a positive note, my roommate left her phone there and they mailed it back to us. Also, the apartment was nice and in a good location close to public transportation.

Response from Marjanne:
Hi Jessie, I am sorry this was your experience. The description does definitely mention our cat. Our house 'manual' that we left with you explains how to deal with her, including just putting the litter box inside if you want to close the door. It's a shame you did not contact us about the cat escaping while you were there. We could have dealt with it on the spot as we happened to be around still (though Liesbeth does not live upstairs). As it was, Liesbeth had to go inside. It's true we had three people staying before (though for a surcharge), but we decided against that recently. Anyway. Best, Marjanne

Great place, great host. The apartment is really cool, close to the center and easy to reach from outside Amsterdam. The area is quite and full of good and not expensive food. We had a god communication with Marjanne. She is a very attentive host.
