Hello and welcome to Petal Cottage!
This lovely, clean, traditional cottage is 30 seconds walk from Lake Erie. The beach is clean and large - ideal for a weekend break or family vacation.
Port Stanley is a 2.5 hour drive from Toronto. This quaint, friendly village has all amenities within walking distance: library, live theatre, liquor store, supermarket, restaurants, bars and coffee spots. There's lots of art and local talent in the village and neighbouring areas.
It's a quiet place where you can enjoy total relaxation; by the beach, harbour or a peaceful green space.
The cottage is fully furnished & self contained. 2 bedrooms (1 queen and 1 bunk beds) and 2 futons in living area. Please note, the bedrooms have semi-slatted doors...(you cannot see through them!) and no locks.(I mention this only because out of my many, many renters, one family found this objectionable) . Although it is advertised to accommodate 4, an extra couple of people would be okay. But remember only one full bathroom! It has a bright eat-in kitchen with skylight. Dishwasher, fridge-freezer, washer, dryer. Gas central heating for the winter and central air to cool you down on those hot, hazy summer days.
Sit on the porch and say 'hello' to the passing 'locals'. Or enjoy the deck, barbeque in complete privacy.
Monthly rent is $900 off season (Oct - Apr), including all utilities.
Strictly no smoking and no pets please.
Bed linens, towels etc. are NOT provided, unless special arrangements are made. (I've found most people prefer to use their own)
No smoking. No pets. If my place is left as you find it - spotless - I will be happy! I make sure I am the one who cleans and will have the place ready for your total relaxation!
We had a wonderful vacation! The cottage was cosy as described and it is actually a 2min walk to the beach.. So we certainly spent time there! It was mostly just my boyfriend and I, but there were a few nights we had guests and there was plenty of room with the futon and the bunk beds. Alison was extremely helpful and answered all my questions (I had quite a list!). Also - to note, the town in port Stanley is very cute and friendly... Ice cream shop.. Fudge shop.. Gourmet food store.. Coffee shop and several art galleries. We will be back :)
Alison called to give us all the details and stayed in contact over our weekend whenever we had an issue. The cottage was as described - very close to the beach!
Thanks, Shannon. It's unfortunate that the VCR was broken. I never use it, so was unaware of the damage. It looks like someone may have pushed in a VHS tape too far, and caused damage. Anyway, luckily I have a spare VCR player which I can bring to the cottage next time. With this unpredictable, rainy weather, I know it's a blessing to have indoor entertainment for children! ~A~
I chose a bit of a strange time to rent a cottage so close to the beach (mid-December) but the experience was amazing! I highly recommend doing it and I highly recommend staying at this cottage. It was warm and cozy and great to come back to after being out in the cold. It surpassed my expectations. It was, in a word, perfect. Alison is a wonderful host and I hope to come back many times, during every season! Being a photographer, I brought my camera along to document my trip... The results were amazing! My husband and I had a fantastic time at Petal Cottage in Port Stanley. Alison was so friendly and had the cottage nice and clean and ready for our visit. We were very comfortable there! The cottage is super close to the beach (wow!) and the beach itself is gorgeous! Lots of cute shops and great restaurants in town too. Everything is within walking distance from the cottage. We will definitely be going back at some point.
We really enjoyed Suzie and Me's restaurant and we were able to make a trip to Railway City Brewery in St. Thomas, a small craft brewery just 20 minutes away.
My husband, sister- and brother-in-law wanted a quiet getaway to reconnect, play board games, cook food, and walk on the beach. We contacted Alison on short notice for the weekend and she was so lovely! She arranged it for us to move into the cottage easily and comfortably, and we were charmed right away. The place is clean, tidy and cozy, as specified. There are two bedrooms, and one of them has bunk beds - my husband and I used these, and they were comfy. The living room has two double futons, too, if a couple would rather not sleep in bunks. This house is RIGHT near the lake - the street is actually sandy - and the lovely town of Port Stanley is a short walk away, over the drawbridge. We had a wonderful time and feel very fortunate to have found this spot.
I like to contribute to the happiness of others! My cottage has been enjoyed by many visitors; family, friends and strangers. When I'm there with family or friends, I love to create a comfortable and happy atmosphere...good food, fun & laughter. If I'm not there, I'll make sure I leave my place clean & tidy and comfortable so you can make it your own relaxing retreat; your home away from home.
I'm used to entertaining and hosting international students (in my home in Toronto) of many different ages, staying with me from 2 weeks to more than a year...Again, a 'happy home' is my goal. Giving of myself and caring for others, communicating and interacting is what brings joy to my life. I guess I'm very much a 'people person'!
You should know that mine is a traditional cottage, not facing the beach but just minute's walk away.
I love a beautiful beach, nature, peace and serenity. I have found it - all seasons - at Petal Cottage. I hope you find it too.
