About this listing
This spacious room is upstairs and at the front of the house, making it the sunniest room we have. The large windows look north over the public library, past the tall towers of the old legislative building and all the way to the Olympic Mountains.
Our Green lodging has been operating since 2000. We provide organic breakfasts, organic cotton sheets, locally made furnishings. Out of respect for people with chemical sensitivities, we use only environmentally friendly cleaning products and encourage a scent-free environment. The North room is upstairs and toward the front of the house. It faces the sidewalk and has a view of downtown in the distance and (sometimes) the Olympic mountains. The North room has a queen size bed as well as a single size day bed, which has a trundle bed hidden below it. The room has wood floors and a large closet. It shares a bathroom with the South room. The library is also upstairs between the two rooms.
Our hope is that you'll find our home comfortable, relaxing, and inspirational. If you're already familiar with common environmental practices like recycling, composting and eating organic food, you'll feel right at home here. If not, we'd be happy to explain their importance, as well as our use of organic bedding, buying locally, raising chickens, and energy saving practices. We love sharing what we know and learning more from our guests. We serve breakfast on your schedule in any number of locations, indoors or out.
We also have become a Washington State non-profit, Fertile Ground Commons, our demonstration site for sustainable living. As such, you'll find lots of activity around the house with people picking up their CSA shares, carpooling, dropping off home school kids, volunteering in the garden, or having a potluck. It's a fun way to get a taste of Olympia, if you're up for it.
This Oasis in downtown Olympia has a large garden and mature fruit and nut trees along with six chickens and numerous swings and outdoor seating areas. We are super kid-friendly and can provide high chair, stroller, play pen, booster seats and toys! Just bring the kids, the Fertile Grounds will keep them occupied.
The North Room shares a bathroom with the South Room.

This was a great location for exploring downtown Olympia and we couldn't be happier. We had a very relaxing time in a calming space and loved getting to see the garden! Breakfast was delicious! We will definitely stay again on future trips.
This was our second stay at Fertile Ground. It is an excellent location, accessible to downtown. The room itself was very attractive and comfortable. The house provided a nice gathering area for us when we were assembling other family members who were staying other places. The breakfast provided was excellent. Our hostess was very helpful and friendly.
This was my second stay at Fertile Ground; I was accompanied by my 10 & 11 year old sons on this trip. I love that the house is in a quiet neighbourhood within walking distance of downtown. The rooms are done really nicely with comfy beds and everything you need (right down to fluffy towels, bathrobes and slippers). Gail makes a delicious breakfast and I really had to reign my older son in on our last morning. Love the hosts, love the house, will definitely be returning on my next trip to the US! Thanks :D
I really enjoyed my stay at Fertile Ground. Gail was very accommodating and friendly. The house and grounds are beautiful and breakfast was delicious and filling!

About the Host, Gail
I love traveling, just like you. I've been to Europe, Central America, Peru, the Middle East and all over North America. Still need to squeeze in Africa and Asia before I'm too old to enjoy them.
The trouble is, I live in Paradise and so leaving is really hard. Olympia is the best little town ever (hippest town in the west according to Time Magazine, but how hip are they?) and I maintain a gorgeous oasis in downtown with a huge garden, chickens and community meeting space. It's so perfect that it's hard to leave it.
I'm focused on remembering I'm a spirit with a body and not the other way around. Earth School is an opportunity to collect wisdom and share love on my journey back to the One. So, being a lazy sort of spirit, I've created this paradise around me where most people are very easy to love. Onward and upward!
