This apartment sits on a lovely tree-lined street, off of Baltimore Ave in the University City area of well-loved West Philly. You'll enjoy your stay in this cozy, tastefully decorated, one bedroom with full kitchen (gas stove), tub/shower, and living room. Wireless internet available throughout the (website hidden) in the living room for dvd's and netflix (no Cable TV). The apartment is the second floor of a town home so is accessed by one flight of stairs, plus a few steps up to the door from the street.
Best of all, this is a great neighborhood! Clark Park is just two blocks away with a year round farmer's market on Saturday morning and Thursday afternoon. Great coffee shops, amazing Indian food and other ethnic food of countless varieties all within walking distance, if not the very same block! University City is a short walk away and the trolley to Center City stops just across the street. The neighborhood is diverse, friendly and will offer you a great place to stay while in Philly.
I'll leave you detailed suggestions on local attractions and restaurants if you choose to stay. The trolley into center city couldn't be easier if you want to do the public transit and save some dollars rather than a taxi. Location of apartment is between 45th and 46th Street off of Baltimore Ave.
The 34 Trolley which stops across the street will take you right into Center City and (email hidden)ation. It's very convenient. You need a trolley token or $2 in cash per ride.
I love my home and hope you do too. It is on the old side so please be kind and gentle. Windows stick sometimes but will always open with gentle nudging. Please, no smoking and no pets. Enjoy your stay!
Please be sure the front door is closed securely. If it is not pushed firmly than it will not be locked.
Mel's apartment on 544 S. Melville was terrific. It's well appointed, super clean, and has everything I needed for a brief stay, including good wifi.
It is also a perfect location for visiting the University of Pennsylvania, which I had to do for an academic conference in early October. 544 S. Melville is about 20-25 minutes walk to campus, but there is a trolley ($2.25/ride) that can get you there faster if you don't want to walk.
I liked the neighborhood. Lots of shops, restaurants, bars within a block or two. Safe and quiet neighborhood with lots of Penn-related residents.
We love staying at Mels's apartment. It's beautiful, clean, and Mel is incredibly accommodating. Highly recommend it.
Mel was wonderful - easy to work with, everything was the way she'd described it. Her apartment is beautiful, charming and comfortable, full of books that we also have read so we felt right at home. Although we didn't do any cooking beyond making coffee in the morning, she has a lovely kitchen. It's a great neighborhood - lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance, and Clark Park is delightful. No trouble finding parking on the street. We highly recommend this listing and hope to go back again.
What a gem! We stayed the weekend in Mel's wonderful West Philly flat. She is just steps away from the trolley to center city. West Philly is a vibrant neighborhood with Clark Park a few blocks away. Her location just off Baltimore Avenue is ideal. There is a local bookstore and several yummy places with in walking distance. I highly recommend Mood Cafe for your Pakistani chaat. On to her place... it is charming. When you enter Mel's home you are struck by its careful design. Books and interesting art are plentiful. Her bedroom is comfortable, bathroom clean, kitchen cozy, and sitting room perfect for some TV or reading. It really is a royal suite. Mel is easy to communicate with and key drop was a breeze. Rent here!
Absolutely wonderful apartment! I came down for the weekend to spend some time with my girlfriend, and the apartment was better than we expected. We loved the coziness and the proximity to some great restaurants. Mel was also a great host (even though we did not get to meet her), she was easily accessible via text message and was able to answer any questions that we had. If I return to Philadelphia, I know where I will be staying.
I spent 6 days in Mels´ cosy apartment during a visit to the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and Children´s Hospital of Philadelphia. The apartment was perfect for my needs, and within walking distance to the university and CHOP (20-25 min). Mel was an excellent host, responding without delay to any queries I had about the apartment or Philadelphia, both before my arrival and during my stay. If I go back to Philly and need a place to stay I will definitely try to come back to Mel´s place.
I used to live in Philly, and this was hands down the most beautifully decorated apartment I have ever seen there. The attention to detail was amazing, from the light-blocking curtains in the bedroom to the beautiful stenciling in the hall and mini chandalier in the living room.
It is also surprisingly quiet for its location right near the trolley. I loved being around the corner from delicious food (Fu Wah Market Vietnamese hoagies and yummy Milk & Honey breakfast sandwiches), and it was really quick and easy to get into Center City.
I would DEFINITELY stay here again. Mel was helpful and easy to communicate with, and I had a wonderful stay.
