Big, sunny four-bedroom in Harlem, New York. Recently renovated, clean kitchen, living room, one bathroom. Fully furnished private room. Lots of cool decor and furniture in the apartment! We love to add or change things bit by bit and the apartment looks different (better and better) every week. We will have updated professional photographs redone at the end of April 2014. Most of our windows are south-facing, so we have great sunlight all day.
We work hard to keep the home clean, and provide fresh sheets and towels for each guest. You will receive keys for your bedroom, the apartment, and for the building. :)
Our place is ideal for travelers looking for an authentic New York City experience-- a relaxed, artistic home with a few friendly faces waiting for new guests!

The area is very safe. We have lived here for more than 3 years and have had zero bad experiences coming home or walking around at all hours of night and day. We have had over two hundred Airbnb guests and as you can see from our reviews, not one person had an unsafe experience here.
Central Harlem has great nightlife, museums, and other hangouts. Popular places to visit include Maysle's Independent Cinema, the Lenox Jazz Lounge, the Studio Museum of Harlem, the world-famous soul food eateries Red Rooster and Sylvia's, the Apollo theater, and much more-- all within 5 minute walking distance from the apartment. Marcus Garvey Park and the New York Public Library are both just one block away. Central Park is a 10 minute walk. 24 hour gyms and laundromats within 5 minutes. Lots of restaurants and cafes, grocery stores, delis, and weekend Farmers and Craft Markets in the neighborhood.
Extremely convenient public transportation to all of NYC-- 15 minutes from Times Square by subway. Subway is about a 1 minute walk from our door.
We are one block from the 2 and 3 subway lines, two blocks from the A, B, C, and D subway lines, and four blocks from the 4, 5, 6 subway lines. This means anywhere in the 5-borough area is extremely accessible, with Times Square 15 minutes away. The M60 (Laguardia Airport), M100, M101, BX15 buses all stop one block from the apartment, and we are 3 blocks from the MetroNorth train station (to suburbs in New York state and Connecticut). Public transportation available to Newark, LaGuardia, and JFK airports.
Please note that we are on the fourth floor, and do not have an elevator.
Check in is flexible-- you can come any time after 12 noon. Please check out by 11 am.
Asani and Sueminn are excellent hosts! The place is bright and inviting, easy to get to, and they do a great job at making you feel at home from the moment you walk in the door. Plus points: positive atmosphere, very clean, and no weird smells!! My friend and I loved being there, getting to know our hosts and getting to know the other guests. No complaints!! We love it here!
The room was comfortable, the hosts were so welcoming, and the location was awesome--very convenient to the train, and around the corner from the Red Rooster, where I stumbled into an incredible salsa performance at the end of a great evening. I will stay here again when I travel solo to the city, and would consider booking one of their larger rooms when I come with my partner and our babe. The careful aesthetic of the place is a bonus!
Fantastic experience. It was the first Airbnb stay for me and my girlfriend, and I am very glad I did stay with Asani, Chelsea, Peter & Sueminn. Leading up to my arrival, they were always communicative and timely in their outreach and responses to inquiries. Check-in was very uncomplicated, and communication once we arrived easy and comfortable. The apartment and our room were spotless, and the interior decoration very artful and great - we felt very much at home. The girls and guys of the apartment were always fun to be around (not to mention the cute little fuzzball coco), and always helpful. They preprared for everything, from tips for organic grocery shopping to emergency doctors in the area in case of sickness. Great atmosphere, great place, great host. Can only recommend staying with them, as it will definitely make any NYC trip more unique!
We had the best time in harlem. These guys are great and so hospitable! Very welcoming when we came in and the huge map on the wall really helped and was totally creative! They taught us all about the train lines and even took the time to play a game of basketball.
Would 100% recommend this place to everyone. Easy to find only 10-15 mins by train to times square. See a unique aspect of nyc.
Thanks a million guys! Xx
We've been there for 3 nights to enjoy the city and this apt is in a great position, very close to the subway (just 15min to times square) and to the bus that came from LaGuardia airport. Asani, Chelsea, Peter & Sueminn are also very organized hosts! Recommended!
The apartment is only one short block from a subway station which makes it very convenient. The hosts are informal, pleasant and relaxed so we felt comfortable sitting down with them and had enjoyable conversations. An entire wall in the living room, given over to information about the apartment and neighborhood, is fun to read.
My friend and me stayed here for one night to enjoy the city. Most of the time we weren't in the appartement but the time there was better than we expected. Everything was clean, the hosts were friendly and helpful and the arrival and departure was very flexible, which was perfect because of our changing plans. Thank you for making our stay so wonderful and easy! We would definitely recommend staying here!
Asani, Chelsea, Peter and Sueminn were very welcoming hosts. The apartment was very convenient, clean and comfortable for our one week stay in New York. It was only five minutes walking distance to the Apollo Theater in Harlem. We highly recommend staying here when you go to New York! Thank you!
Thanks to Asani, Chelsea, Peter & Sueminn for being such wonderful hosts. They were friendly, organised and easy to get hold of. The apartment was in a great part of Harlem - close to some great restaurants like Sylvia's, Red Rooster and Pee Dee's. I stayed in February and it was comfortable, relaxing and fun.
Probably the cutest dog (besides mine lol) I've even seen! Friendly hosts. If you're low-maintenance and independent like me, this is probably a great fit for you. I'd never stayed in Harlem before, it's quite far up if you like to hang downtown, but their place is a block from the red line, so for the price it's on par. :)
Lauren, thanks for being so nice to Coco! We loved having you here, if only for one night. And yeah, Harlem is definitely not downtown, but we love it up here! The red subway lines, the 2 and the 3, both run express during most of the week, so maybe downtown wouldn't have felt so far the morning you left--but hopefully you'll get to stay a longer next time! :)
