In the words of a recent guest: 'The house is darling, and the room itself is lovely with its private shower. The neighborhood is close to so many interesting areas, and is a great jumping off point to embark from.
I highly recommend a stay here!'
This is the spare room of a Victorian terraced house in a quiet street in a conservation area. The room is very peaceful (there's no traffic noise), at the back of the house, so overlooks my - and all the neighbouring - gardens.
It is furnished with a very comfortable double bed, plenty of wardrobe space and an en suite shower and toilet. Clean bedding and towels are provided - and plenty of spare blankets and duvets, if people need them. There's also a hairdryer and an iron. It's a good sized room, with two radiators and two windows, providing great light. There is also a small television in the room and very reliable wi-fi throughout the house. The house has recently been redecorated and there's new flooring in the guest room. There’s also a garden for guests to use. Note: the Street View on this listing seems to show neighbouring streets rather than my road.
For travellers arriving at Victoria station, my house is a short bus ride away, or two stops to Vauxhall tube. For travellers arriving at Kings Cross/St Pancras, there's a direct route on the northern line tube to Oval station. For those travelling to Liverpool St station (from Stansted or Luton airports) you can easily get on the northern line to Oval.
I’m happy to show guests around and help them get oriented.
Check-in is usually flexible. But please ask before booking, with an idea of your arrival time.
Guests have full use of the kitchen and living areas. In the kitchen, there are two fridges, all the usual appliances and guests are welcome to prepare whichever meals they choose. As you'll see from my reviews, this doesn't cause problems with my own mealtimes. I don't provide breakfast as I discovered guests prefer to do their own thing, which is fine.
I always meet guests in person when they arrive, to welcome them and help with check-in. And I'm on hand to answer questions, show people around, make suggestions and generally chat.
My neighbourhood is known as Oval.
There are plenty of local shops, cafes and bars and it’s close to two parks. Just north of my area is Vauxhall, which has been christened 'VoHo' because of the mix of bohemian shops, gardens, cafes and bars. There's a great newspaper article about it in the Evening Standard.
Other cool nearby neighbourhoods are Kennington, Clapham and Brixton.
The Tate Britain gallery is just across the river and the South Bank Centre is a few stops away in the tube.
The house is convenient for public transport (zones 1 & 2 tube stations). Oval tube is 3 minutes’ walk away (on the Northern line) and Vauxhall station (Victoria line and overground) is 10 minutes away. There are also plenty of buses into central London (either the West End or Covent Garden), taking about 20 minutes. And it's perfectly possible to walk into central London along the river, about 45 minutes at a gentle pace. There are also bicycles for hire (the Barclay Bikes), with stations in adjoining streets.
One of the things I like about AirBnB is getting to know a bit about guests before they come, so I can help and assist to make their stay a good one. That's why I really encourage anyone getting in contact to have a full profile with details about themselves and several verifications, and not just a blank square and name.
Matthew is a great host! He is welcoming, friendly, and helpful, yet he gives space for the guests to have their privacy.
His house is homy and cozy! It is also located at a really good location just 5 mins walking distance from Oval tube station.
I would stay at his place again if i ever come back to London. Cheers!
Matthew is a really friendly host. We have to share the kitchen with him. I thought that could be a problem when both of us want to cook at the same time. But it never happened and the kitchen was well equipped. Our room in Matthew's house was really nice and comfortable. Although Matthew life in the same house we ever have our privacy when we wanted to have it.
He Location was well, too. It was in short distance to the tube station from where we get to all points in the town in a few minutes.
All in all i am really happy that we choose Matthews apartment and that he allowed us to stay there.
A recommander. Séjour en 11/2013.
Matthew is a wonderful, very communicative, welcoming, and helpful host. His house is darling, and very well appointed, and the room itself is lovely with its private bathroom and shower. He really provides everything that one would need to discover London, or in my case, make a more long term move here. He was able to provide loads of information on transport and neighborhoods, and makes you feel very comfortable in the house. The neighborhood of Oval is close to so many interesting areas, and is a great jumping off point to embark from.
I highly recommend a stay here!
Matthew was very welcoming on our arrival and helpful, giving us lots of details on how to find his apartment when we arrived at Heathrow, which helped a lot. He gave us lots of maps and tips about London city, and was very helpful with ideas for our stay.
The place was really clean and modern, and the bedroom had heaps of room. He gave us a tour of the house and welcomed us to use the kitchen and fridge and any of the facilities. Thanks Matthew for your hospitality.
Matthew's house was very nice and very convenient to go anywhere in London. He is very kind and friendly.
The room has a small toilet and shower room, and that was very good for us. The room was big enough for my son and me.
We could use washing machine and the kitchen freely.
We had a very good time at Matthew's house.
This was my first stay using airbnb and I could not have had a better experience. Matthew was organised, gave me clear instructions in advance and was really flexible. Great location and close to the underground.
Matthew was a great host during our stay in London and gave us great recommendations. Our room was clean and tidy. Also we liked how our room came with our own bathroom. If I ever go back to London, I would come back!
Our stay in London with Matthew was great. The location was A1 and Matthew's help with finding places e.g. Trains, buses etc was very good. We would highly recommend this venue. Thanks a lot.
Matthew was a pleasure to deal with through the whole process, from booking and corresponding via email, all the way to hosting and checkout. He is a lovely person, easy to be around and respectful of privacy, and his home is as lovely in person as it is in the photos. It is very conveniently located (under 5 minutes) to the Oval station on the Northern Line and many many busses. Rarely did it take me more than 20 minutes to get to anywhere in Zone 1. The neighborhood is perfectly safe and has all the necessary conveniences nearby. I wouldn't have a single hesitation staying with Matthew again, and in fact probably will the next time I travel to London!
