If you want to stay out in the beautiful country 40 minutes from the cultural city of Edinburgh in Scotland, the historic market town of Haddington in East Lothian is a good base. Tannery House is about 200 years old on one of Haddington's most historic roads, Sidegate. We do have Sky, Freeview and wi-fi on reasonably fast broadband.
You'll find us near the High Street, fourteenth century St Mary's Church (Scotland's biggest parish church), local restaurants and pubs (like the Waterside Bistro, the Tyneside Tavern and the Avenue), walks along the River Tyne, East Lothian's world famous golf courses, and only 400 metres from the countryside.
Staying with us at Tannery House does mean fitting in with our busy family where there's always something going on. You would stay in one of our sons' spacious double bedrooms. There's a single bed and a double futon. We have a bathroom with shower and bath just outside your room, a separate loo, a big farmhouse style kitchen and a cosy, classic sitting room.
During the winter you can enjoy the warmth from the woodburning stove in the kitchen and the open fire in the sitting room.
Our friends describe our house as a 'bit of a tardis' because it looks deceptively small from the street but has a huge walled garden at the back full of fruit trees, vegetables, lovely flowers and, of course, more than a few weeds!
East Lothian is great for golfers, history buffs, walkers and very popular with road cyclists. At the weekends the small local roads fill up with peletons heading out from Edinburgh. We love sport ourselves - cycling, tennis, walking, running, golf (not much good though) - so could probably set you up for whatever sport you enjoy.
There are buses direct to Haddington from Edinburgh and trains to Longniddry (10 minutes away). There's also free parking nearby. Sidegate runs south towards Gifford from the east end of the High Street so Tannery House is only about 100 metres from the centre of town.
Just to fit in with the family! We have children (10-18) and are often busy.
No smoking in the house please.
We met Christopher, his daughter and their sweet dog.
Chrisptopher gave us a warm welcome, was very friendly and showed us around in Haddington.
We enjoyed our stay and would definetly stay with them again!
We live in a historic market town, just half an hour from Edinburgh in Scotland, surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside. I have a wife and 3 children, aged 10 to 17, a girl and two boys. We work hard but have a lot of fun. I have lots of hobbies: cycling, windsurfing, tennis, skiing, gardening, music, playing Mah Jong, investing, barbequing. It's amazing there's any time for work.
Most of our recent travelling has been to go skiing in France or Austria, to Spain to see friends and relations, and to France in the summer holidays. We're about to go to Turkey for the first time which has been on my list for a long time.
My wife and my previous travelling was done about 20 years ago on a trip round the world which took in the US, New Zealand (which i loved), Australia, the Far East, Russia (on the Trans Siberian Express), and Germany (just after the Berlin wall came down). Oh yes, and we went to Namibia for our honeymoon!
