*Washington, DC, 15-minute drive or ride on metrorail
*Old Town Alexandria, 5 minute drive. (Water taxi available from Old Town to National Harbor.)
*Mount Vernon Estate, 10-minute drive (This is the 500-acre estate of George Washington and his family.)

A beautiful portion of the famous Mount Vernon Trail (17 miles of paved hiker/biker/runner path along the Potomac River) is just a 3-minute drive (15-minute walk) away (see photos) and also includes picnic tables by the river.

Just a few minutes to shopping, movies, library, other entertainment and conveniences. (Starbucks, Panera, Giant, Target, Bank of America.) 10 minutes to movie theaters and 20 minutes to Shirlington area, which has an independent movie theater and the Signature Theater.

In addition, nature enthusiasts will not be disappointed to be within five or fewer minutes from Huntley Meadows Park (wetland wildlife sanctuary) and Dyke Marsh (fresh water tidal marsh), as well as about a 15-minute drive to Theodore Roosevelt Island (a 88.5-acre island and a national memorial).

As far as getting to and from here, National Airport is just 4 metro stops away. I'm about a mile from the Huntington metrorail station on the yellow line. If you come without a car, when I'm available, I'll drop you off/pick you up from the metro stop, about a 5-minute ride. If not, a taxi ride will transport you quickly and inexpensively. The Fairfax Connector bus also provides a pleasant 15-minute ramble through the neighborhood to/from the metro station. The bus stop is conveniently located 1-2 blocks from my house (close enough for convenience, far enough away that there is absolutely no noise!). I also frequently make the scenic 30-minute walk to the metro station - I'll provide directions if you are interested.

Pets considered on a case-by-case basis - please describe when you inquire. However, please read the rules for pets under "House Rules" to make sure these rules are OK with you. I have a cat. (My cat, Pixie, has become vocal in her old age (she is 19) and sometimes meows loudly. While most of my guests love her and find her fun and funny, if loud meowing would be disturbing to you, other accommodations may meet your needs better.)

Unfortunately, my place is not suitable for young children.

I've got plenty of maps or other information to help you navigate the area. I'll make sure you find and enjoy your chosen destinations! Happy travels!

Guest Access

Everything except the basement and driveway. Ample free street parking is available.

Interaction with Guests

Interaction with guests depends on guest wishes and my schedule. If this matters to you, please let me know and I can let you know my availability during any given stay. I enjoy meeting and visiting with my guests but my work schedule and other obligations sometimes prevents as much as I would like.

The Neighborhood

Quiet, pretty neighborhood with nice trees and gardens. Easy access to shopping, conveniences, and entertainment, as well as parking and public transportation (metrorail, bus, cab).

About a mile to Huntington metrorail station on yellow line.
5 minute drive to Old Town Alexandria.
15-20 minutes to DC
10 minutes to Mt. Vernon

Getting around

Metrorail station is about a mile away. National Airport is 4 metrorail stops away. Bus stop is two blocks away. All conveniences are within about a half-mile, which is ideal if you have a car but if you don't have a car requires bus, cab, or medium/long walks. I am also happy to give rides on occasions when I am available.

Other Things to Note

It will expedite your inquiry and minimize back and forth emails if you include the following with your inquiry: Your full name and at least one other type of information I can use to try to verify your identify in an internet search (e.g., employer) as a safety measure. Also: a completed self-description, purpose of your visit, clarity about dates. A photo is helpful and your pet's photo if your inquiry includes a pet (see house rules for pets below). If you have reviews, references, and verifications on airbnb that can sometimes be used instead of the above. I am happy to reciprocate with information about myself, if desired.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • This was my first experience with airbnb. I am so happy to have stayed with Naomi. My husband, our small dog and I spent almost a month here while we waited to close on our home. Naomi is a gracious host. She has put much thought into the details. We felt very at home as guests in her house, making our transition between spaces much easier.

The room (and home) was clean and comfortable. The location's proximity to the metro and freeways made it convenient for us to go about our daily tasks. Naomi has lived in the area for quite a while and she is a great resource when you aren't familiar with the neighborhood.

I would highly recommend booking with Naomi. If I didn't live here, I would stay with her again on my next visit!

  • This our second time staying with Naomi and will not be our last! The accommodation is spotless, comfy, convenient and quiet. Naomi is the perfect host. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for anyone visiting the DC metro area!

  • Naomi is an excellent host. Her home is lovely and very close to many attractions. I was away at a convention all day and my wife stayed behind and was ill during our stay and Naomi was so sweet that she offered to go out and get her medicine. Naomi did everything she could to make our stay enjoyable. If you are staying in the DC area this would be an affordable, clean & comfortable place to stay. I know when we come back we will stay here again. Thanks Naomi! You are awesome!

    February 2014
  • Naomi's airbnb accommodation completely filled the bill for convenient and economical lodging near relatives we were visiting. Naomi is a flexible hostess who expects her guests to be independent but who is happy to chat and provide information when asked. We will definitely return.

  • My husband and I stayed with Naomi for 3 months while he had an internship in the DC area. It was our first airbrb experience, and we couldn't recommend staying with her more. She is native, so she had great recommendations on food, entertainment and sight seeing. She is just outside of Old Town, only a 5 minute drive (literally you make 2 street turns and you are there). And she is only 5 minutes away from the Metro Station (which BTW, she gave us great pointers on navigating that too). She is very respectful of your space, accommodating, and kind. By the time we left, we felt we had made a great friend. We'd definitely stay with Naomi again.

  • Naomi was very friendly and her home was welcoming. I stayed with my husband only one night here, but Naomi made us feel at home. She offered driving directions to some restaurants in Old Town Alexandria, and she even looked up information for us on monuments and metro stations in DC. I would recommend staying with Naomi.

    May 2013
  • Naomi was a wonderful host. I spent a night at her home and it is convenient and comfy! She had little snacks and a drink available and her cat,Pixie,is too cute for words. I enjoyed my brief stay and highly recommend staying with Naomi while in the DC area.

    May 2013
  • I had to travel to Alexandria to attend a 3-day conference at the Hilton Hotel on Seminary Road. Not only did Naomi pick me up at the train station in Huntington, but she also kindly gave me a ride to the Hotel and took care of my baggage. The house is clean, cozy and comfy, the bed was really comfortable, and Naomi made sure that I had everything to enjoy my stay there.
She is a kind, warm and helpful person, the kind of person that is become more and more rare to stumble upon in your life.
Thanks again, and I would definitely recommend her to any of my friends!

    May 2013
  • Naomi is a very thoughtful hostess, whose light bright house is a comfortable home away from home for travelers. Although we chose it for easy access to Fairfax County, it's only a block from the bus to Huntington Metro station. We appreciated the generous space Naomi provides for guests supplies, and her kindly sharing time in her busy life to give us so much information and directions. We hope we'll have the chance to go back some day. Thank you Naomi!

    April 2013
  • My stay and the room were perfect! Naomi was very accommodating and flexible with check in and check out. The room was comfortable, quiet, and stocked with an iron, mirror, and other necessities. There were even snacks and water for the guests. Definitely would recommend to others.

I am a native of the greater Washington, DC area. I have lived in both Maryland and Virginia and now live in VA and work in MD. I know the metrorail system well! My philosophy of life is, "What, me worry?" (remember that icon Alfred E. Newman?). I believe in always having two categories of books around: (1) books I have enjoyed reading and (2) books I'm looking forward to reading. I enjoy a quiet, comfortable, beautiful home environment that includes the beauty of nature. That's why I like the mature trees in my neighborhood and outside my windows so much. Happy travels!
