I have a private bedroom and bath available. The room features an antique desk, a new full bed, and a private porch with a comfy couch overlooking a beautiful yard. The room also has a radio alarm clock, a hairdryer, an iron, and an ironing board.
The Crazy Mocha coffee house and Buena Vista Coffee are a short walk away. This neighborhood was laid out during the Mexican American War, and thus features some really old and beautiful townhomes. My house was built in 1890.
Parking is available in front of the house. The Allegheny Commons Park is a short walk away--great for running or just relaxing by the pond. Beyond the park (a 15 minute walk) are PNC Park, home of the Pirates, and Heinz Field, home of the Pitt Panthers and the Steelers. Downtown is about five minutes beyond.
Other attractions include the Mattress Factory Museum (right around the corner), the Byham Theater (in the park), the Andy Warhol Museum (down by the stadiums), the Children's Museum (in the park), and the National Aviary (in the park).
The immediate neighborhood is very quiet, but there is easy access to buses on Federal Street (50 yards away) and North Ave. The 54 bus is a 35 minute commute to the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University.
I had a very comfortable time. The host, Charlie, was warm and easy-going. The cats were very sweet. I was glad to have a private entrance. The accommodations were simple and comfortable. I would totally stay there again. Thanks, Charlie.
Charlie was a nice host. The house was nice and I liked the private entrance. Wish I could stay longer there and have a drink with Charlie :) location itself was good. When you're in Pittsburgh don't forget to take pictures with the yellow bridges :))) liked them especially in the lights of the sunrise. In the sunset, too :)))
A comfortable room with a nice bed and duvet, antique desk, and bath with tons of privacy. I enjoyed working/napping in the sunshine on the back deck. The deck includes comfortable furniture and an electrical outlet. Charlie is courteous and very thoughtful. I was attending a conference at the Wyndham Grand, and Charlie's place was about a 25 minute easy walk (it was nice out); sidewalks everywhere. Buses are readily available, but I didn't use them.
The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. We were out of the way and had our own private entrance which was nice. Charlie was kind, helpful, and unimposing.
Charlie's place is spare but comfortable, clean, and exactly as described. I was quite comfortable and enjoyed having a private entrance to come and go as I pleased.
Charlie himself is quite pleasant and informative. I arrived early and he was kind enough to let me leave my bags while I wandered a bit until check-in time. Later, we enjoyed a nice, rambling conversation covering a range of topics.
The Alpine Lodge is very conveniently located between Arch and Federal Streets on the north side of Pittsburgh. Federal Street has a number of restaurants (local and chains) and a coffee shop all within 6 or 7 blocks of the Lodge. A little further afield is Western Avenue with a number of restaurants, coffee shops, and other attractions.
Two blocks away on Arch Street is "Randyland," a local attraction. From (website hidden) : "Randyland is more than a colorful curiosity; it’s a vital element in the renaissance of the Central Northside. Real estate agents bring prospects to Randyland to showcase the neighborhood. Tourists visit with cameras, eager to be photographed against the home’s high-bright hues."
The National Aviary is mere blocks away as is the Andy Warhol Museum and The Mattress Factory Art Museum. All are within a 15 minute walk and worth a visit, which is easily done given the Alpine Lodge location.
Given the location, the price, and the attractions nearby, I recommend Alpine Lodge for anyone looking to explore Pittsburgh.
Stayed a short night for an interview. Private, clean, comfortable, quiet and a great deal. Charlie was a nice guy too. Thanks again
Thanks for a great stay in Pittsburgh! Charlie was a great host, quick communication, and made everything smooth. The room was perfect and easy for accessing downtown Pittsburgh.
Quiet place with great on street parking and private access. It was perfect to have our own space without sharing anything even entry. The back door entry with patio made it feel like our own room. Charlie was friendly and gave some great tips for driving in the city.
Charlie's place is just as described... And during the winter with the snow it was also very pleasantly warm and cosy, made me feel really good. Downside was, that the 15 Minute stroll into downtown wasn't possible as planned, as it was too cold and icy. But with parking available in front of the house, I was just happy to travel back and forth whenever needed.
My one night's stay at Charlie's home was indeed very pleasant. The room and the bath room were very clean and comfortable. Charlie himself is a very welcoming host, who would go out of his way to help and make your stay a very relaxing one. I had a serious problem with my car as it got stuck in the snow, and he was a great help and went as far as asking his neighbor to help. Charlie, I'm indeed very grateful.
