The Space

Bienvenue à Montréal! If you are looking to live like a Quebec local, the Plateau is the place to do it!

pricing: $80 per night CAD, $85 weekends, at 1-2 guests plus $25 cleaning. A third guest is $25 per night for sofa / air mattress.

The condo-style unit is directly off boulevard St-Laurent ("The Main") and perfect for 1 person or a couple. It's surrounded by 1) the retro shops of avenue Mont-Royal, 2) the delicious smoked meat and bagels of St-Laurent , 3) the French cafes, shops and restos on rue St-Denis, and 4) the incredible Portugese bakeries and BBQ rotisseries off Marie-Anne and Rachel streets.

Parking is available evenings and weekends only. There are free spots around the building with non red tag zone residential parking, and in all the nearby streets (you won't need your car much). Mile-End is within walking distance, and tourist landmarks like Shwartz's Deli (smoked meat), Fairmount Bagels, Parc Lafontaine, and "the mountain" itself Parc Mont-Royal. Pharmacies, banks, groceries, bakeries, convenience stores all just steps outside your door, and once you settle in, you won't have to far to go for your needs.

The bedroom comes equipped with queen bed, your own closet and a faux fireplace. The bathroom has a standard bath and shower, a new vanity, washer/dryer units, iron and mini ironing board. The open kitchen and dining area has stainless steel appliances and is fully equipped for cooking, with a table for 4 guests. The living room has an HD flatscreen, Apple TV with Netflix, Nintendo Wii and about 5-6 TV channels. The 8 foot long sofa is super comfortable for a 3rd guest and a single airbed is also available (max 3 guests). You have all you need for cooking here, if you can resist the temptation to eat out at all of the amazing restaurants in the neighbourhood. You also have all linen and toiletries provided, and you don.t need to go out to worry about buying cooking essentials and condiments for a one night stay.

PLEASE print out your house manual for instructions and have a look at my restaurant guide for some great eateries! I provide full directions, metro maps, tourism brochures + take out menus. Let me know if there is anything else I can arrange for you in advance so I can make sure you have a comfy, enjoyable stay.

  • This was the most well-equipped vacation rental I think I have ever stayed at! Cooking: we were able to save $ by eating breakfasts & lunch at home with delicious fresh produce, cheese & olives we bought at the Jean Talon market, 3 metro stops away, since David had every kitchen supply we could possibly need to prepare simple meals. This gave us more $ to spend on eating dinner out. Restaurants: for variety you can walk to, this location is perfect. We ate at NaBrassa (Portuguese) on Duluth, and Arepera (Venezuelan) on rue Buillion, which were both great and reasonably priced. We never made it to Omnivore on St. Laurent, but will save that for the next trip. Bakeries: within a few blocks, we had Koenig Amann for pastries, and two very good Portuguese bakeries. With more time, we also would have gone to LeFromentier, an amazing bakery, near the Laurier metro stop. Transportation: Mont Royale metro stop (orange line) is an easy 5 minute walk away, and the metro system is prompt, clean, & extremely easy to navigate. It took around 20 minutes to get to the Jazz Festival with one transfer at Berri Uqam, 10 minutes to Jean Talon market, etc. Cleanliness: perfect. The apt is organized, uncluttered, & clean. Sleeping: bedding was clean & soft, bedroom was quiet. Bathroom: also clean, had everything you needed, and even a washer & dryer, which would be very helpful for longer stays. Location: the street itself was littered with garbage bags and the front of the the buildings were not quite as nicely maintained as those on neighboring streets, but that is really the only negative, and was not important to us. We felt safe, or at least safe enough, and it was good to see people outside on their balconies and terraces even late at night, just relaxing in the cool night air. Other: the TV was huge and worked perfectly. WIFI worked well too. Bedroom fan was helpful in the hot weather, and the A/C in the livingroom kept the livingroom and kitchen cool enough. To sum it up, this was a great rental for a couple, or three people (one person can sleep on the large couch) who want to enjoy the Plateau restaurants and neighborhood, with easy transportation to anywhere else you want to get to in Montreal. David is a friendly, warm, accommodating and experienced host, and for us, this is a perfect rental for a few days or even a few weeks. We will be back! Thank you, David!

  • My wife and I are very happy that we chose to stay at David's place.
The location suited us perfectly and the unit had everything that we needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
David is an outstanding host and he was a great help to us when we had an unexpected delay at the airport. It was a real pleasure to deal with him.

  • great location; very friendly and helpful host...
parking was the only problem - that area is quite impossible for parking the car...difficult and confusing restrictions and very little available....that was not fun.
Once we settled in, all was lovely and comfortable. Thank you, David...I wonder how hard it would be to obtain a permit from the city to offer your guests for parking help?

    Response from David:

Thanks Lorel for that suggestion, the Plateau is the second most densely populated neighbourhood in Canada, so it.s always tricky, plus the one way streets. Good tip for travellers - don't drive in Montreal unless absolutely necessary! Lorel, the next trip if you arrange it in more in advance, as this one was last-minute, I.ll be happy to work it out with my renter for you to have the spot as I do with all guests for one or two day weekday stays (it.s always free evenings and weekends).

  • David's place was perfect! David was a very gracious host. He was there to welcome us despite our flight delay and even had a few breakfast items for us. The apartment was clean and cozy - even more spacious than it looked in the photos. The location was fantastic. Located right in the heart of the Rue St. Laurent/Plateau area and a short walk to the Mont Royal metro stop. This was the perfect place during festival season as we were just a stone's throw away. I would definitely recommend David's place!

  • My husband and I spent a week in Canada for our honeymoon. We did three days in Quebec City and four days in Montreal. We booked through airbnb both times. Both apartments were adequate, but David's definitely felt the most like a home away from home. His apartment was the perfect size for my husband and I. It was open, yet intimate, and so quaint and homey. We felt at home within minutes. David was kind enough to meet us at his apartment to give us the keys and show us around. He even had a bottle of champagne waiting for us upon our arrival, as well as a small gift, which was super thoughtful and sweet. His kitchen had everything we could want or need including basics like olive oil, salt/pepper, spices, butter, and even left us an unopened orange juice, milk, and a dozen eggs. We loved coming back to the apartment to relax in his living room and watch Netflix, which was also a nice amenity after a long day. The location was wonderful and we LOVED getting to know the neighborhood. The neighborhood has such a great variety of good food and absolutely amazing coffee shops and breweries as well, within easy walking distance. He also lives minutes away from Mont Royal (mountain in the middle of Montreal) which was awesome. We had a three day metro pass and could easily walk to the metro station from his apartment to explore other areas. The apartment was everything that we hoped for and more. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks David for an awesome apartment!!!!!
