Interaction with Guests
Since I am not always around I do not interact a lot but I am always available by mobile if needed.
This is a very safe and very well located neighborhood. (yes very very safe!)
Around: convenience stores, restaurants, gas station, drugstores and a hospital. Close to downtown Monterrey and San Pedro.
The Catarina and San Carlos are 2 really really good regional cuisine restaurants, both in ave. Morones Prieto, a walking distance from the studio. (like 4 blocks)
There are some museums nearby: Marco, the contemporary art museum as well as the History Museum are located downtown by the macroplaza, which is 10 mins by car. The Fundidora park, a former steel factory which now have several museums and exhibitions spaces as well as cinema and performing theaters is located also like 15 mins away by car. In there is possible to rent a bike or just walk around the gardens, eat at the Lingote, a very good restaurant inside Museo del Acero (steel museum), visit an exhibition or watch a film.
If you like nature you should go to the mountains and into the forest at Chipinque National park for a view of the full city, or to the dramatic Huasteca national park, to see more or less where the Santa Catarina river is coming from...both 20 minutes by car. UANL medicine school campus is located like 15 minutes by taxi ($40 MX aprox.)
Main UANL campus around 25 mins. by taxi or it can be reach by a bus which you can take 3 blocks from home.
best way to move around is in a taxi, but there are a few bus lines that you can take a few blocks from home, more info here: (website hidden)_mapa_rutas_interactivo
Taxi from the studio to:
downtown 10 mins
airport 30 mins
bus station 20 mins
UANL main campus 25 mins
UANL medicine school 15 mins

(more or less depending on traffic)
Other Things to Note
Everybody ask about how secure is the area, let me be clear: it is very secure.
No party, no loud music, ask first.
The location of the place is fantastic, nice and safe residential area close to pretty much everything. Rubén was always in touch if something was needed and he even offered me and my girlfriend to stay at his bigger unit in the same house called "amazing place to stay in Monterey" and the place was fabulous, very artistic, big and clean. I would say my only disappointment was the shower system that, as he clarifies, the hot water only lasts for a few minutes which was very inconvenient specialy for woman. It's just not possible to take a good relaxing shower. Overall the place is great and I would recommend it.
Ruben was an excellent host and the apartment in Loma Larga was perfect for my stay in Monterrey: affordable, convenient and safe. Ruben was there to welcome me and took good care of me while I was there. As Ruben openly states, the water heater is eco-friendly and only stays hot for about 5 minutes...be quick because that water gets cold. Ruben stocked the fridge with a few beers, sodas, water and snacks (a nice touch) and there are good little restaurants and convenience stores located very close by. It was very easy to catch a taxi nearby too. There was no microwave in the unit and the small dogs that live in the main house go bonkers when you go up or down the outside steps, but altogether this was a great air bnb that I would surely recommend. Monterrey rocks!
This is an excellent choice for comfortable lodging if you're planning a visit to Monterrey. It's located in a very safe neighborhood with a nearby 7-11 which is open 24 hours. I found taxi's easy to hail, as San Jose Hospital is nearby, thus returning cabs from this facility stream by constantly. The lodging itself is clean, broken down into 2 chambers. The larger is air conditioned with a comfortable bed and a view balcony. The microwave and small fridge make it possible to enjoy a small meal if so inclined. The smaller room I found suitable for changing, as the large bathroom and walk-in closet adjoin. It has no air-conditioning, thus should be viewed in hot weather for the necessities only.
Rubin was a very gracious host, and he and his mother ( who I met briefly ) appear to to kind and welcoming folks, thus I would highly recommend this as a value place to plan your visit, in more ways than one.
If you're looking for a nice place to stay that is conveniently located in Monterrey, look no further, Ruben is your man. As soon as you get here, you'll notice the photo's don't really tell what you get. The place is bigger, with an awesome large wall made of windows with a view to the city, and then some more.
It has a balcony, and it's equipped with a ninja-quite air conditioning and the bed is one of the best beds I've slept in from all my trips using Airbnb. In other words; you'll sleep like a baby.
Another big plus for Ruben's Loft Style Studio Apartment, is location; you are within a few minutes from anything you need if you're driving, and a couple of convenient stores are just within walking distance, plus, one of the best hospitals in the city is just under a 5 minute walk just in case.
Other than that, the place feels very secure and Ruben is one of the coolest hosts I've ever met. And if you ever get lucky enough to meet his mom, she's the best. No wonder why Ruben is such a great guy.
This loft is perfect for low-maitnence travelers who want to experience the city! Honestly the pictures under-advertise the amount of space in the apartment. Though certainly spartan, it contains everything an adventures traveler needs for a home base in Monterrey! Note that this is not a shared apartment, and you have access to your own fridge, microwave, bathroom, and deck (which has a gorgeous view of the city and moutains). Ruben has dogs (which you can hear barking when you arrive) but as a guest with heavy allergies there was no trace of there presence in the apartment.
You can easily hop a bus to downtown for about M$12/person, or catch a cheap cab anywhere in the city. Grocery stores are more difficult to find, but there is a delicious place for street food about ¼ mile away if you are willing to walk. The location is safe and provides easy access. A must for first-time travelers who want a cost-effective way to tour Monterrey!
Ruben is a great host and a very nice guy. He is responsive and deals with any issues that come up.
The apartment is in a safe neighborhood. The apartment is spartan but clean and safe. There is a microwave and refrigerator, air conditioner and heater. There is a balcony with a beautiful view of the city. Convenience stores are just a block or two away and there is a nice little chicken taco place called Taqueria Iberia 2 blocks away, and a superb full service restaurant: La Catarina, also just a short walk away.
I always felt safe and secure and definitely recommend Ruben's place as an option in Monterrey. Thanks, Ruben!
Great place, conveniently located and with a nice view of El Obispado and El Cerro de la Silla (the balcony is not small at all). The bed is super comfy and the bedroom very spacious. Ruben as a host was very attentive. Even though we didn’t get to talk a lot, he walked us through the apartment and told us everything we needed to know for our stay.
