The Space

Clean and private cottage in peaceful, tree-lined Ridgelea neighborhood in central Austin. The cottage is a separate building behind our house, so you have lots of privacy. It shares a garden courtyard with our residence.

Fully-functioning residential space with three rooms: large living/sleeping area, full kitchen with seating, and bath with shower.

Standard/full size bed (54" x 75") with 8" thick mattress and comfy foam topper sleeps two. Fresh cotton bed and bath linens. Standard-size airbed with linens available for up to two additional people for an extra charge.

Kitchen has table next to a sunny window, gas stove, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender and basic cooking/serving items. We stock breakfast items, typically coffee, tea, juice, milk (regular and almond), yogurt, English muffins, butter, jam, eggs, cereal, oatmeal and fruit.

Bathroom has plenty of counter space and a closet. Shower height is 6'6". We provide shampoo, conditioner and liquid body wash. We have two pool/beach towels.

WE HAVE TWO DOGS: Both are rescue dogs. Emmy is the bigger brown dog. She may bark; she is sweet but fearful. Luna is black/smaller and she loves people. The dogs can't get into the cottage yard or porches.

Guest Access

We have four bikes you may borrow (see pictures.) A hybrid, a mountain bike and a vintage single speed that fit medium or average side riders, and a mountain bike that fits adults up to about 5'8". Each bike has a lock, attached bag, and flat repair kit.

There is a stereo with iPod dock and CD player, a propane and charcoal grill, private back porch, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, picnic backpack, ice packs, several power strips.

There is ample parking on the street.

Interaction with Guests

We enjoy meeting our guests, offering recommendations on places to eat and things to do, making new friends and being hosts, but we respect your privacy too.

The Neighborhood

Walking distance to the original Kerbey Lane Cafe and Russell's Bistro. Central Market is less than a mile away. Close to Shoal Creek Greenbelt and bike routes. Four to five miles from downtown music venues and about 2 miles to UT.

Getting around

There are two city bus stops, one about 1/4 mile away and another 1/2 mile away that will take you downtown or to the airport. Taxi to downtown area is about $25. Some of our guests without cars get around by a combination of bike, bus and taxi.

  • The cottage was everything as promised and as other guests have said. It is a lovely accommodation in a dead-quiet neighborhood, and hosts Andy and Ellen were gracious, thoughtful and eager to please. We could not have asked for more, and wholeheartedly recommend central Cottage.

  • The cottage is a wonderful, quiet, comfortable get away. Andy and Ellen are gracious hosts and have thought of every comfort for their guests. The cottage is quaint and is stocked with plenty of food and drinks for breakfast and snacks. We used the bikes to ride the Shoal Creek trail, then came back and were treated to fresh fruit and smoothies. The location of the cottage is convenient for getting to many of Austin's attractions. We will definitely stay here again and would refer anyone looking for a place in Austin to stay at the cottage.

  • The hosts and cottage were wonderful. This was a nice little place to stay in the perfect spot of town for us. They really went above and beyond by providing us with everything we would need during our stay, including organic and vegan-friendly food and drinks. Much appreciated! Would definitely recommend and want to visit again.

  • We had a great time at Central Cottage! Cute little spot in an ideal location. The neighborhood was quite and friendly, with easy access to local restaurants and highways. And Andy & Ellen are generous hosts! We enjoyed the snacks and beverages in the kitchen as well as the use of their bikes - fully equipped with helmets, locks, bike bags, pump & lights! We hope to stay with you again when we visit Austin. Thanks for the hospitality!

  • (email hidden)! Our gracious hosts thought of everything. The kitchen was well stocked, the place was very clean and comfortable, nicely decorated, had alot of books and information on Austin and was conveniently located. My husband asked if we could just move in! I loved it and will definitely be back.

  • This was both our first visit to Austin and our first airbnb experience, and it was just fantastic all around! This little cottage is in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood and has everything you could need. We appreciated the well stocked kitchen especially and all of the guidebooks. We didn't get to meet Ellen, but received some excellent tips from Andy that were truly appreciated. Thank you so much for the hospitality, and we hope to come back soon!

  • This was a great little cottage in a quiet neighborhood with a completely well stocked kitchen, which we loved. My husband and I especially enjoyed the bikes, riding along a bike/pedestrian trail all the way downtown!
Our visit was busy spending time with our children who are at UT (nearby) so we were not at the cottage much, but I would've loved to had time to get to know Andy and Ellen better as they are very attentive and friendly hosts and appear to love hosting.
Thank you so much for your hospitality.

  • Andy and Ellen are wonderful hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our accommodations at their cottage. Andy took care of a problem with one of the bikes ASAP and got us back up riding quickly. The collection of books in the cottage had lots of great information about Austin and surrounding areas. The breakfast goodies they provided were very thoughtful. We felt very much at home during our visit there. You probably can not (email hidden) to stay in Austin.

  • We had a wonderful stay at the cottage in Austin. Andy and Ellen were super knowledgeable about Austin and great to talk to. The breakfast spread was perfect and the bikes got us everywhere.
