An excellent place to stay that is close to Dominical, yet far enough away to leave the crowd behind. The view is spectacular. The pool was nice to go for a dip, have a drink and watch the sunset. Viewing the night sky from the deck was amazing. The house is cool, wish I had one just like it. The appealing Central American artwork is everywhere (some of it for sale, better value than any nearby artshop). The grounds were well kept and seemed very safe. Colette is a great host and has great culinary skills. The pineapple upside down cake, fresh tuna and arugula with a good bottle of wine really set the table well, for an enjoyable dinner and ambiance. I would highly recommend staying here for 1 or 2 people per room. I will return.
We stayed at Colette's amazing oceanview home our first 3 days in Costa Rica. After driving from the Alajuela airport we arrived at dusk, she showed us our room, and invited us to take a swim in her beautiful pool! She then made the most delicious birthday dinner for me! A bonus was the homemade birthday cake! Colette is a fantastic cook and sits down with her guests to eat with you and visit. Her house is so beautiful with a full screened in wooden deck upstairs where we had two dinners (her private quarters). 180 degree oceanview! She has beautiful artwork all over and is very talented.
Our room was clean, shower great, and bed comfortable. We had our own small refridgerator, microwave, and place to make coffee and tea next to our room. Also a covered patio in front of our room to relax in the shade or we could go down to the pool and relax in the sun. The first morning we woke up we saw a blue morpho butterfly by the edge of the back hill.
The road leading to Colette's is very steep and bumpy (like many Costa Rican roads up a mountain), so a 4WD is best like we had, but a car with some power and good clearance would do. The adventure of driving on the Costa Rican roads was quite fun once you get used to it!
The little town of Hatillo is quaint that you'll pass by on your way up the mountain. It has an expat's bar in town and little store, but we did not visit either. We ate at Por Que No one of the nights near Dominical (highly recommend). Nice oceanview next to the waves and rocks. Hacienda Baru Reserve is very close and a nice easy hike, but recommend going very early as it gets hot near the beach. We saw a toucan, 2 caiman in a little river, iguana, geckos, spiders, and butterflys.
Colette helped us make a horsebackriding reservation at the Nayauca Falls. The scenery on the ride was incredible, the falls and swim amazing, and the small breakfast there and lunch back wonderful! We even saw two macaws and two white faced monkeys next to our lunch place!
Colette borrowed us her Costa Rican bird and animal book so we could learn about the creatures we saw. She also was very available to help us with suggestions on where to go nearby.
Colette has a small sweet well mannered dog named Coquette we enjoyed saying hello to every day.
We had a great time at Colette's and would recommend a stay there for at least a few days if possible!
The oceanview, swimming pool, and landscaping is gorgeous!
Thanks so much for everything and sharing your beautiful home with us Colette! We will always remember our favorite vacation of all time!
The room is clean, functional, and there's plenty of space. Colette was very hospitable. The pool and the view is amazing. A perfect place for a night dip before bed. I would highly recommend!
Colette is a very friendly host. Her place is beautifully located. You can see the ocean and jungle from the room/backyard. The pool is a nice extra! The drive up to her place is very steep but totally fine, it's paved.
If you have a car, and you are heading near Dominical, don't miss this hidden gem!
When we arrived at the b&b, and we saw the view from the garden for the first time, we were absolutely stunned! It's probably one of the best views in the country, and we were amazed by it every single moment that we were there! And especially during the sunset. Colette is a wonderful host that will take care of you as if you are family. We had her home cooked food every day, and she kept on surprising us every breakfast and dinner.
I do advise you to have a look at her charges before hand (something we didn't do) because her drinks and dinners are on the pricey side for Costa Rican standards. But you do get good quality for what you pay!
All with all a wonderful experience, and we feel very blessed to have been able to stay there for 4 days! A true highlite in our trip!
We had a great time at Colette's place! Her house is lovely, and the view is just incredible. She's a wonderful hostess as well, and went to great lengths to make sure we were relaxed and comfortable. Thanks for a great end to our trip!
Collete's house is situated way up on the hillside overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Absolutely breathtaking. There were lots of birds and even a large troupe of monkeys came through (right after we saw a Toucan). The pool was perfect and refreshing. The landscaping beautiful (in spite of the army of leaf cutter ants). The fabulous new road from Quepos makes getting to her place a breeze from San Jose. The driveway is a little daunting, but actually quite good since it is paved for most of it. Just steep. So just put it in low, drive slow and steady and you'll be fine (it didn't seem so steep after a few times up and down). The room was clean, pleasant and private and we could walk out onto the veranda and watch the sunset. The twin mattress was a little thin, so she let me sleep in the other room she has. My only issue was the lack of wifi (she has internet, but with a usb stick which can't be use with an ipad), but I was able to go into town and get free wifi there. I enjoyed seeing her art and learning about her years of living in Costa Rica. And the dinner she prepared was incredible - fresh (I mean fished that day fresh) seared tuna. Breakfasts were also wonderful with fresh fruit and eggs or pancakes. She is a wonderful cook. We had long talks about all sorts of things, and we enjoyed our four nights there immensely.
