About This Listing
On Monte Amiata in southern Tuscany, Castello di Potentino is a family home that offers accommodation from a simple bed and breakfast to an ideal location for weddings, parties and other functions.
The estate produces its own prize-winning wines and extra virgin olive oil. All farming is carried out using organic principles.
Castello di Potentino is perfect for visits to Montalcino, Siena, Pienza and many other historic sites.
For most of the year there are opportunities to learn about the growing cycle of the vines and olives and take part in the farm's activities.
In the summer, there is beautiful wild swimming in the gorge below the castle.
The castle's kitchens are well known for convivial home-cooked Italian food. Recipes are all Potentino specials born out of inventive local cooking traditions and ingredients.
Wine tastings and tours can be arranged both at the castle and locally.

How to find us
Castello di Potentino,

The best way to get to Potentino is by car, however, we can arrange for collection from various local stations and airports upon request.
The closest airports are Pisa, Rome and Florence.
A large apartment with three bedrooms- one double (with a four-poster bed) and two single bedrooms with a shared bathroom (with a bath and a shower). The main room has its own kitchen and a long dinning table that can seat up to 10 people, as well as a seating area and fireplace. There is also a grand piano and large bookshelves filled with hundreds of books.
We are always available if needed- we offer tours of the castle and wine and olive oil tastings and can also prepare meals on request. We are more than happy to leave you to the wonderful seclusion of Potentino if you prefer. Potentino is a working farm.
We are in a wonderful unspoilt valley- there is very little modern agriculture- the landscape remains much as it would have been in Leonardo da Vinci's time: full of small-holdings- millennium-old olive trees and orchards, it is a paradise for nature lovers- in May the wild orchids are magical. We are 30 minutes from Montalcino, 25 minutes from Bagno Vignoni hot springs and the summit of Monte Amiata (where one can ski in the winter). The Val d'Orcia is just over the hill.
It is best to come to Potentino with a car, although there are regular buses to Castel del Piano from Grosseto, Siena and Florence. We can arrange taxis to collect you if you need.
Potentino is above all a family home. It is not a hotel. We will make every effort to make you feel at home.
Breakfast: When we travel, we like to make and eat our breakfast in peace, so when we opened Potentino as a B&B, we decided to make the breakfast self-service. I hope that you enjoy this as much as we do when we go away.
We have two dogs at the castle- they are very friendly- but they do protect their home. Minerva, (Mini for short) is a Great Dane, Coco is a chocolate labrador.

About the Host, Alexander
I am a food lover, an ex-publisher and am now living in a castle in Italy with my sister (who runs our farm and makes delicious wine and olive oil from our own estate). I also was the number two in the start-up of the Frontline Club in Paddington in London.
